Cabrito
Lucy V.

Came here because they said they had the best Cabrito in town. I got to say I tried my mothers and it was delicious. I ordered the bone in ribeye, which was so good and it came with a baked potato that they mix with some kind of seasoning and sauce, it was delicious. They do start you off with free chips and salsa and mini gorditas with beans which were delicious. You can't go wrong with the place the service is amazing. They cater to you for every need. The place is nice they had live music which is really nice to enjoy on a Sunday. They also include a salad bar and Borracho beans with any meal you order which was great.

El Gran Pastot came in highly recommended from family and friends in the area! And we are sure glad we went! As you walk into El Gran Pastor, you catch the essence of Kid goats, machitos, and cabezitas slow roasting over a massive open mesquite fire! Cabrito is such a wonderful local delicacy, with so many restaurants to choose from to eat this local delicacy, El Gran Pastor comes highly recommended and is very affordable! We had 3 rounds of "machitos", "cabezita", tacos de cabrito, and a succulent rendition of pork "carnitas" and beans! All of it was to die for! We definately will be coming back to El Gran Pastor!

Wonderful lunch. We showed up at about 1pm and there weren't many people. By the time we finished at 2:30 is was packed. I could understand why! The meat and the sides were all delicious.

The food was traditional and savory. The service is top notch. And, the restaurant is very family friendly.

Review Highlights - El Gran Pastor

Everyone recommends the typical MTY greats, but we ultimately wanted a good mix of meat and cabrito, so we opted for El Gran Pastor.

This was my first time at this restaurant. It was recommended by the hotel. Upon arriving, it…read moreseemed that the server didn't want to put any effort into serving our table. I asked for additional time to think about what I wanted to order to drink and the server just stood there and stared at me so I made a rush decision. After bringing our drinks, we had a different server bring our food and our initial server never came back to check on us except when they brought us the bill which we had to ask for twice. As we looked around it seemed that they wanted to put more attention towards individuals that look more like tourists as I saw them hovering around certain tables more often. The odd thing was the server immediately started cleaning our table as we sat there waiting for the check which traditionally they do once individuals leave not passing in front of you to grab things rudely. This was when we had to ask for the check a second time. Regarding the food, it was OK but honestly, I've had better food at other places that I visited in Mexico and the service was a lot better. My traveling companion asked about soup that they had on the menu and the server said that it would take about 40 minutes for them to make it which sounds pretty ridiculous since it's a restaurant and you would think everything that they have on the menu would be immediately accessible. Again, no explanation as to why it would take so long, but another indication of the lack of service they wanted to provide us as customers . I would never go to this restaurant again, not only due to their lack of service and communication we were provided but also due to the food that was mediocre at best.
