Good variety on the menu with all kinds of Cabrito choices. Ordered three different Cabrito dishes. Salad bar included, which was simple, but fresh ingredients. We were in MTY for the weekend and wanted to try some traditional cabrito. Everyone recommends the typical MTY greats, but we ultimately wanted a good mix of meat and cabrito, so we opted for El Gran Pastor. We went to EGP at this specific location because it seemed to have the best reviews. It was a crowded afternoon, but we were seated right away. Everyone was laughing so loud, smiling, and we could quickly see why. The service was excellent. It's somewhat of a team affair, but Josue was our server and he was incredible. We wanted to get the cabrito and ended up getting a pierna or leg of cabrito and a ribeye steak for the both of us, along with some queso fundido to start. We wanted to have arrachera, but Josue recommended the ribeye and it was the best option. Everything was marvelous!!! The steak was super juicy. The frijoles starter was even amazing that we wanted to order more. We finished our meal off with some Glorias flavored cheesecake. Everything was soooo good and we were stuffed for hours after. Este lugar ya lo tiene listo para que te lo lleves y puedas viajar con él sin ningún problema. Dentro del gran pastor sucursal Gonzalitos tienen un área donde tienen Cabritos, medios cabritos y otros artículos congelados para tu casa o para viajar. El precio del medio cabrito fue de $1500.00 pesos aproximadamente, y me dijo la chica que puede durar hasta 12 horas sin descongelarse y llevándolo en el avión. La atención de la primera chica que incluso me abrió la puerta del restaurante fue excelente y ella me orientó adonde ir con otra persona que se dedica exclusivamente a vender cosas congeladas, y ahí mismo pagué y me tardé menos de 15 minutos en realizar todo, a pesar de que fue fin de semana, donde se celebraba a las mamás por ser 10 de mayo. El ruido en el restaurante era más alto de lo normal, pero en el área donde yo fui a recoger mi cabrito congelado, era muy bajo. El Servicio Al Cliente fue excelente. Came here because they said they had the best Cabrito in town. I got to say I tried my mothers and it was delicious. I ordered the bone in ribeye, which was so good and it came with a baked potato that they mix with some kind of seasoning and sauce, it was delicious. They do start you off with free chips and salsa and mini gorditas with beans which were delicious. You can't go wrong with the place the service is amazing. They cater to you for every need. The place is nice they had live music which is really nice to enjoy on a Sunday. They also include a salad bar and Borracho beans with any meal you order which was great. read more

Second visit food was great, server was very knowledgeable of the menu and his recommendations were on point. Our group had Cabrito con salsa it was delicious. All appetizers, salsa and dessert was also very good. As you walk into El Gran Pastor, you catch the essence of Kid goats, machitos, and cabezitas slow roasting over a massive open mesquite fire! Cabrito is such a wonderful local delicacy, with so many restaurants to choose from to eat this local delicacy, El Gran Pastor comes highly recommended and is very affordable! We had 3 rounds of "machitos", "cabezita", tacos de cabrito, and a succulent rendition of pork "carnitas" and beans! All of it was to die for! First time in Monterrey I was told I had to try cabritto so I was taken here, I wasn't really expecting much but the city proved me wrong, the meat was so tender and good I left here so full and skipped breakfast the next day what a great meal. read more

This place was by far the most disappointing experience in Monterrey. Our table ordered different parts of the cabrito to try and we were all disappointed by the lack of seasoning and flavor. We also ordered T-bone steaks and were again disappointed at the lack of flavor. I don't recommend this place to those expecting a flavorful meal or a savory experience. read more

I loved the carbrito (traditional barbecued goat), but don't recommend it to folks who aren't into gamey meats. Also good was the arrocherraado (flank steak) - this was probably the most popular dish though not the reason most people come to the restaurant. Advice: save room for dessert! Two anglophones in the middle of Monterrey looking for Mexican food. One (me) will try anything and the other not so much. We settled on El Gran Pastor and it fulfilled both our needs. I got the BBQ baby goat (kid) and my buddy got the the filet and we were both very happy with our choices. The goat was tender, tasty and perfectly lightly seasoned. The included salad bar and soft tacos rounded out a great meal with a few cervezas. My buddy's filet came covered in cheese which he claimed was quite good. All in all a good experienced. The decor is upscale and the dining room quite large. Service is reasonable quick. A bit of broken Spanish will go a long way as the staff speaks very little English. An English menu is available. The bill comes with the total in Mexican and US dollars for the conversion challenged but credit cards are billed in Mexican dollars. read more

It is my first time in mexico, so I rate with caution. Instead of comparing to u.s. places. I am comparing it to the smaller local places we have eaten at so far this week. The decor is wonderful and the staff dresses very well. The rice is not goid. The goat was tender and tasty, but not much different than pulled pork I am used to. The Asada was greatly over cooked and the salad bar, let's not waste time discussing. The waiter was worst this week, far worse than the gentleman st the morning taco plsce. Plate were left on the table when empty, but he picked up the dirty napkins and straw packages -lol. My friend paid by credit, but was tipping in cash and before I could leave the tip our waiter walked up to my friend's wife and said, "your husband did nit leave a tip on the credit slip, so you better leave me a 10% tip in cash. I need it. " by my other experiences in last 5 days, the mexican people are very nice and have shown a great sense of kindness and humor. This place missed the mark for sure read more
