Amazing!!! I was so excited to find a truly authentic Mexican restaurant in Ireland during our visit! It's honestly better than some places we've been to back home in Texas. We had a chicken torta and an horchata. Both were equally amazing! Their salsas are soo good and not overly spicy. I'm from Florida, and previously managed a Mexican restaurant in my early 20s-I flew in kind of late and was looking for something close to the hotel-I truly did. It expect to find such good Mexican food in Ireland I opted for the chimichanga which was perfectly crisp-service was great and fun decor with authentic touches. I opted for the carnitas which was a little bit dry (but also the end of the night) still great flavor-it looked a little small -ya know used to American portions but I could barely finish the last bite. 10/10 would recommend checking out and it was priced a bit cheaper than most other restaurants I'd visited in Dublin. read more

If you asked my husband this was 5 stars. He loved his burrito and the spicy sauce (I swear he wanted to steal the bottle of the sauce). My chimichanga was average. It worked, it was edible, but I have high expectations for a chimichanga and this one was missing flavor and the tortilla was hard as a rock on the bottom from the fry. I am from Arizona and pretty hard to please. The kids liked their quesadillas and everything was good. I would def go back if I was craving Mexican food in Dublin though! We were all wiped out from our day in Dublin and we wanted to get food before we got back to the hotel. Being a flight attendant you hear a lot from other flight attendants on what's good to eat around the area. I remember hearing about el grito mexicano so I told my boyfriend and our coworker and we headed that way We were very surprised to see the place was full we were asked if we had a reservation we said know. The hostess asked if we could wait a about a half hour we said yes we ended up waiting less than that for our table they were very quick. This is a mexican owned business the place had great decor! It felt like I was transported to Mexico! We already looked through the menus while we waited so when the waiter came we were ready. The food here is very cheap! So me and my boyfriend tried quite a bit! I ordered two tacos different meat flavors and two gorditas a side of the refried beans with cheese and a side of Mexican rice. My boyfriend had one taco and one Gordita. The food was all very delicious. I can imagine it must not be easy to import specific products for Mexican cuisine but for my first time trying Mexican food in Ireland. We all thought we hit the jackpot the only reason I gave the for stars is because my boyfriend is from San Antonio Texas so we both have really high standards for the food. Being American I was constantly surrounded by Mexican food and since moving to Ireland I have been dying for a good Mexican. There are so many different restaurants and takes on the Mexican cuisine but El Grito really did well. I ordered the tacos and the nachos. Overall I was impressed and delighted to taste something I was missing for so long. For me the tacos were generously filled and tasted delicious. I was annoyed that I didn't double on my tortillas as the tortillas were soggy towards the middle of the tortillas but this could've been due to the fact that we live in Santry and El Grito is located a few kilometres away. As for the nachos, I loved the cheese sauce. It was the perfect balance of spice and cheese. I think the salsa was really fresh and the guacamole was not runny or funky. The freshness of it all was so refreshing and amazing! I would love to see queso dip or even the option to order a side of guacamole from El Grito or at least on the Deliveroo app which is where I ordered from. Overall this is a great place and I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a taste of Mexican food in the Emerald Isle. read more

Authentic Mexican food. I had to ask where the owners were from and was told Guanajuato. Their staff speak Spanish. The food was delicious. I had a barbacoa taco and the taquitos dorados. The horchata is freshly made. The reason I did not give them a five is that the portions are a bit on the small side and everything else is a la carte. For example, the chips, rice, beans, etc.... Got the recommendation from my Mexican colleague for this place and we were not disappointing at all! We had 8 tacos, 2 nachos and an alambre for a group of 4 people with a very reasonable price and it were so delicious. Really love their range of sauce as well! Spicy but tasty. And the dessert, the jelly with alcohol on top, super yum!!! Highly recommend the place. Wow. Just, wow. I never expected to find good Mexican food in this part of the world. And yet we stumbled in here after a Gaelic Football match nearby and could not have been more stoked. The flavors here are legit. That's all you need to know. They have standard taqueria fare - choose your meat, choose your vehicle (taco, etc), choose your salsa, and away you go. We gorged ourselves, luxuriating in flavors of back home, until beyond sated. Praise be for finding this gem. Yes, they have a salsa bar, and their salsas are all great. Yes they serve Mexican beer, and even make a decent michelada. Which is a welcome flavor after days of drinking Irish beers. Yes their tortillas are worthy. Pretty much just Yes to everything. This joint could stand its own ground even back at home against the plethora of solid Mexican joints we have. Oh so good. And the crowd in the restaurant is testament to that. Go here. Eat food. I can now officially move to Dublin after finding some seriously legit Mexican food. I'm born and raised in Southern California and have essentially been a professional Mexican food eater for about 40 years. This place is muy bien! I could tell from the online photos it was gong to be good and my suspicions were confirmed the moment I walked inside and smelled that familiar aroma of perfectly crafted Mexican food. Our server was very nice, but there was no follow up on drinks or anything else. We asked for assistance in calling a cab. They couldn't find the number for any of the several cab companies in Dublin. There were many locals in the restaurant. It doesn't seem they cater to tourists. read more

I moved to Dublin a few months ago from Canada. One day my friend (from back home) were talking on Facebook and she was asking me if there were any types of food/cuisine from home that I couldn't get here. And I'm sure there could be something, but as far as great Mexican food goes it's pretty easy to find in Dublin. Case in point El Grito Mexican Kitchen. This is a tiny, almost takeout only (there is small counter with 5 chairs) restaurant located in Merchant Arch. There is another small restaurant (Hanley's Cornish Pastries) right beside it in the same building. I decided to get a barbacoa torta, a sandwich with pulled beef, guacamole. refried beans, and delicious spices on a big soft bun. The torta was fantastic, the beef was flavourful and there was spice to the torta, but it wasn't too spicy. There are hot sauce condiments nearby if you wanna kick things up a notch. I decided to get something to drink, can of a coke, and together my meal was 8.50. It takes a few minutes for your dish to be ready, but that's okay. Everything is made fresh and it's well worth the wait. The only downside, if you can even call it a downside, is that portion for this sandwich is so big I couldn't finish it all. I think next time I'd probably forgo ordering a coke and just have the torta. Or I'd get one of the other delicious sounding items on the menu. read more

Not the standard burrito fare you see at every corner but a proper Mexican hole in the wall with tacos al pastor grilled directly on the spit and served in tiny corn tortillas. J and I ate here last week and the tacos were delicious. For a moment we thought we were back in our favourite Dallas gas station with the delicious smell of grilled onions and nothing but Spanish spoken by nearly everyone inside. Went to its (relatively) new location on Mountjoy square with someone who had lived in Mexico (Mexico city and Oaxaca) for 6 months. It is genuinely authentic (she confirmed) . From the canteen-like approach, to the cheesy (and slightly confusing) menus, the family type service and most of all the food. It was brilliant. I realise now that I've been having approximations of Mexican food. This was food with a depth of flavour and home-made quality that you simply don't get in any Tex-Mex place. Some things to note: you order at the counter (and may have to join a queue), help yourself to sauces and cutlery (the orange sauce is very hot - beware), go order at the counter again if you want seconds. The food will be brought to your table. Normally I'd want different beers but what the hell, this place is great and, unusually for many places in Dublin, is actually very, very good value. Sometimes after a night out you want a taco, a legit taco, because that's what i use to having lived in San Diego for 5 years. We rolled up after midnight after couple of beers, and I ordered the pastor tacos on corn tortillas with some guac. The tortillas were pretty legit, but the meat was not marinated as it should be, the meat was a little dry and the al pastor meat should be liken to small chunks instead of shaved. The guac was super good, saved the tacos. My friend had the carne asada burrito, and he was super happy with it. Given this place is a hole in the wall in Dublin, and not California it should be visited by those of us who crave mexican food while away from home. read more

After eating my body weight in tacos in Central America this summer I became slightly obsessed and have long been trying to find somewhere to fill that street food void. I was in a major rush and quickly stopped here for all of twenty minutes for something to line my stomach before heading out. I ate it too fast I couldn't take a picture, it was that good. Found myself wandering into El grito at 21:30 starving after a day long tour to Northern Ireland. We got back late and all the places recommended to us were closed or had stopped serving food. Most of the other food places in the area were very over priced for fast food or to fancy for me. I needed food. Good cheap food and I needed to had eaten it a few hours earlier. My body was starting to dissolve the final stores of reserve fat in my body when we walked in. They offer a variety of Mexican options but burrito was the first option so I chose that. He made it quickly in a Chipotle style fashion, and it was amazing. Normally I wouldn't eat an entire burrito that was the size of my head, but today, today I needed a burrito the size of my head. The cheese was melted to the tortilla. The chicken was savory and spicy there were beans and rice and all the extras that you would want on a burrito. With a price point of 6.8€ you really can't beat it. It's right by temple bar and is more of a late night take out drunk food type place. But they let you eat at a small bar area also.
