My initial appointment with Dr. El Khoury was excellent. Very thorough, knowledgeable and professional (this was the third time in 20 years or so that I've met with him- the other times the procedure didn't take (which is not uncommon). The procedure went ok, quite painful, but everything seemed to go as planned. Later that day and for the following week, I was in extreme pain - unable to walk. I called the doctors office three times to leave a message and see if there was something wrong as this was not normal. Each time, my messages were left unanswered - no doctor to respond to my inquiries. I ended up going to Urgent Care for assistance to address the excruitating pain. When I finally was able to speak to someone, it was the front desk who provided me some advise (same that was on my handout - she was not a medical professional, so I didn't have any help in that conversation). I provided the feedback to Dr. ElKhoury- Front desk staff unprofessional, no follow-up at a very vulnerable time in the process and unfortunate. I've since found other Pain Management doctors in OC that have been much better - but I wish, pain management was more than just spinal shots and more thorough review of options. read more

Complete waste of time. Front office relays inaccurate information. You will sign disclosures stating that you are participating in a "Clinical Trial". $350.00 for the initial examination and there wasn't one, meaning it lasted no more than 7 minutes. They will tell you to bring medical records, MRI, X-Ray, Ct Scan and the Doctor will tell you that he doesn't know how to read them. LOL The disclosure will also state that it's possible to have permanent nerve damage. The improvement can last 3-4 months and then return, while others may experience long term improvement. I hope this review was worth the cost of that appointment for a 7 minute examination. Advice: Do not pay any upfront fee until after you determine if this guy can help you. read more

when I first went I had no confidence that anything was going to make a difference, however I was willing to give it a try. I'm very happy I did. After the second treatment session I went from not being able drive myself around the neighborhood to now being able to drive 60 miles plus, standing was not a good option now I stand up to an hour from only being able to stand for less than 15 minutes. My quality of life has certainly improved.I know that everyone's results differ that's why I felt compelled to write a review. we often hear the negative responses and rarely hear from the ones who has benefitted from the service. they are practicing medicine like all doctors they not miracle workers. Wonderful and caring Doctor. Staff is always kind and helpful. His method of pain management has given me my life back. The injections are a GOD send. Dr. El Khoury was referred by my primary doctor and the wait for the "initial consultation" as well as the appointment for the epidural procedure with Dr. El Khoury was a ridiculous total of 1 1/2 months. Not acceptable for someone in chronic pain! The female medical professional who conducts the initial consultation is condescending and immediately assumes you are a drug addict. No one in this office is helpful or compassionate at all! I ended up in LB Memorial ER because the office cancelled my procedure and then "decided" not to refill the Norco Dr El Khoury had me on for 4 months! What a freaking joke! Don't go here! I came here because my mom needed some medical attention and I agreed to take her since it was the insurance idea. I have to say the receptionist in both areas were pretty bad. The first visit we were told to go to the other waiting area for consultation. We go there and there's noone at the receptionist desk. We can hear people are behind there but they didn't want to help out anyone. When it was our time for the appoitment I knocked on the glass and they finally opened up. After that we had to wait some more, about 40 minutes after our scheduled appoitment time. The second visit was just about the same. You go there and sign up at the first desk and just wait. You can't do anything other than wait for your turn to see the doctor. As I was sitting there I saw another patient trying to get info about his meds. Turns out they don't do meds on Wednesdays and he drove 40 minutes to get them. They could of told him that on the phone when they were scheduling him. Dr. El Khoury is a great doctors. He is patient and kind and most of all gentle. I had been suffering from chronic pain for years. Fibromyalgia osteoarthritis herniated disc in my back and more. He helped me so much. You have to be patient and wait for his treatment plan. You can't jump the gun. You have to listen to the doctor and not expect drugs. This isn't a place to get a cheap high. Dr. El Khoury listens very well and he professionally completes procedures. My pain has decreased. It's manageable now.

How this doctor gets higher reviews shocks me. He spent absolutely no time making sure that he made the cortisone injection in the RIGHT place in my left hip. He walked IN the room, stuck the needle in my hip a couple times and walked out. Needless to say, I got NO relief after over a month of sciatic pain; yet he - no doubt - billed my insurance company for it and got paid. I hope someday somehow he 'reaps what he sows (did such a horribly careless injection)! And the person, Daisy, who processes requests for approvals made no effort to get an approval for this quickly by not labeling it 'urgent' and lying to me by saying she couldn't whereas the truth is she COULD have labelled my need for a cortisone shot as 'Urgent'. Dr. Elkhoury has by far been the BEST doctor I have seen for managing the pain I'm in due to my herniated disc (cervical region & lower back region- yes both) I was originally sent to an Orthopedic Doctor who just sent me for an x-ray and prescribed me a hard core muscle relaxer. When I first started w/ Dr.Elkhoury he informed me I was on very strong medication that would do damage to my organs. His game plan: he will preform a nerve block procedure every 4 months and the pain medicine he would start me on would be of a low dose. This was the best thing I could have received. I am employed full-time and taking hard core pain meds isn't a great idea especially when your also a parent. Dr. Elkhoury is the BEST! this has worked wonders for me and my pain level has been at an all time low. He actually listens to you concerns & customizes a plan that best works for you. the only downside is his office schedule. I wish there would be a later appointment than 3:15 but for this procedure that is the latest they offer. The first visit you have will be with Olga- she evaluates the patient and if MRI or CT scan is needed she will put the request for it prior to your initial meeting with Dr. Elkhoury. She is also great. She is very sympathetic & caring. Above all the office is great, staff is helpful, yes they are a busy practice and he only has 1 office (in Long Beach) but I am in need of his medical attention so I don't mind driving form Whittier to Long Beach to be seen. read more

Bad place bad care... why? Because they don't care. Dr has the nerve to say the government won't allow him to do certain things. I'm no chump dr you only like to bill for unnecessary services. I've been suffering in pain over fifteen years and this dr said he can't treat me with meds unless he shoots me with Steroids. The shots I was given were done with no care not even sanitized the area he injected. This guy is a crook. He spoke to his man nurse while he was sticking a needle into my neck. After I had released my liable to injuries. Staff is rude and inept as well. If you have the chance to see this review before receiving a referral or waiting your time going. First let's set things clear. Any provider who takes HMO patients are going to be busy. And be thankful they take it. They could make more money and work a lot less if they didn't take HMOs, but most people don't have an option for ppo insurance. And he is a pain management provider, so of course different types of medications are going to be prescribed. ADDICTS need to take some responsibility. Should millions suffer, because some abuse? I have seen several pain management providers and Dr. El Khoury is by far the best. He changes medication when it's not working and he also does blood work every several months to ensure your not over taking it, in addition to checking online to make sure your not "pill shopping" And for the front office staff - they deal with patients in pain constantly- some patients aren't that polite or calm with them. Over time it hardens you. I've never had any problems with the staff. read more

Be careful. Doctor is covered in-network (Blue Cross PPO) but all injections are done by an out-of-network provider. Do not get tricked into paying more. Donnie did not explain this to me when I specifically asked if the doctor was covered by my insurance. read more

My wife and I have seen dr. El Khoury for 12 plus years mainly because of dr El Khoury. He is a kind man and seems to really care about us. Since my wife and I have very bad backs we have seen a number of doctors and all of them have bad office staff. You would hope that someone working with the public and sick people I would hope the staff would be compassionate and try to make the scheduling, refills and other simple task as easy and painless as possible. however most of the time you get gum smacking morons who can barely figure what end of the phone to use. Recently for some untold reason Dr El Khoury changed and cut back the pain medicine we both have been talking for the 12 plus years we have been a patient of his. We knew the opioids we took were addictive and losing their effect as our tolerances grew and that one day we would need to come off them. However Dr El Khoury had no advice on what to do about this nor did he offer to taper us off them. Though a friend my wife and I found our way to another doctor that specializes in addiction and after a long difficult 5 days in the hospital I am off of the opioids. Dr El Khoury should know or at least should have directed us to a specialist. So we will be finding a new pain doctor for the epidural injection, radio frequency ablation and hopefully non addictive pain medicine. And I am sure his office staff will be rude and incompetent. read more

Had my first procedure here today. Too soon to tell if it helped. When I use to get these done from another doctor, I would usually get some relief the same day. Unfortunately, due to insurance change, I can no longer see the other doctor...he was the best. Hopefully, I will see results soon. My biggest complaint is that both the nurse that applied the antiseptic on my back and the doctor injecting steroid in my back DID NOT WEAR GLOVES!! I was so disgusted. They have you lay down on the table and you can't see very well what is going on. I noticed with the nurse after she finished, but thought no big deal, she is only applying the antiseptic. But, I did not see the doctors hands until it was too late. I realized what was going on right when he began inserting the needle and was afraid to move while he was inserting needle. He was also not gentle with the needle sticks. I regret going here and need to find other options. I wish i would have spoke up when I was there, but I was in shock and in pain that I could not bring myself to say anything. read more

In reading these reviews, I feel like I've been going to a totally different office. My treatment is excellent. Yes this doctor prescribed drugs...we have chronic pain, that's what he's supposed to do. He also administers injections to lower the use of pain meds. He makes recommendations to work out, stretch, lose weight. All of these have helped me. Like every office, I have one or two people that are not overly friendly. They are for the most part a competent, caring group of professionals. The doctor himself is a wonderfully caring, gentle man, who apologizes for hurting me when he administer the injections. The negatives...the wait is ridiculously long, the office is small and crowded. I would like to not spend an hour there each time before going in to see the doctor. read more
