We were underprepared and did not research how extensive the hike was or anything about it. 1hr and 30 minutes later we made it to the top. You can see 2 countries and 3 cities all at once. New Mexico, Texas and cuidad Juarez. It was such an amazing view. Do not come to this hike alone and come during the day maybe early morning when the sun isn't so hot. The US and Mexico border ends and families often cross over, there is some boarder patrol but not visibly to track who is on the mountain. The Catholic Church does a pilgrimage here about 2 times a year and you and request to go with them. This was an absolute amazing experience.

The views from the top are incredible. The statue is incredible. I highly recommend giving it a shot. Tip: Do not do it alone. The trail crosses into Mexico where there is no border wall. There have been assaults on the trail, almost always on someone hiking alone.

This year it's going until the 10th and I we'll be checking it out a couple more times before it's over. My fiance and I went on opening night. It was pretty cold and I didn't come prepared in a heavy enough jacket so we decided to skip the rides, but we did get an idea of everything they had going and I was impressed. Lot's of rides, some trusted goodies like the Zipper and Tirlt-a-Whirl, and some ones that I've only seen in amusement parks (like this one that I can only describe as a spinning Superman). The Ferris Wheel was impressive in size and looked like each seat might actually be able to hold more than two people or maybe two people and a small child. Along with carnival food stands, they also had food trucks on site. Nice. We wanted the carnival food and went with jumbo corndogs, a funnel cake, and a sliced caramel apple (with an uncomfortable amount of caramel... at my request). All exactly how I remember them being as a kid, not good for you, but hard to stop eating. While there, we also caught the cowboy act (didn't catch his name) that was actually pretty good and entertaining even for an adult. We spent a couple of bucks to go inside the "freakshow" tent... probably more entertaining and creepy for a child, but still cool in a novelty kind of way. And they have a giant river rat that seemed like the sweetest thing (my heart is too big because I saw an adorable animal, but in reality he probably would've bit me in a heartbeat). I wasn't so fond of the petting zoo area, but I tend to be anti-petting zoo in general. They did have a large amount of goats though so this would be a great way to introduce your kids to farm animals especially living in a place like El Paso where most don't make it out to a farm. They picked a great location. Really great for any ages. I can't wait to see what they do next year and I hope that the local 4-H branches get in on the fun because the only thing this fair is missing is a little competition. Oh and keep in mind, you need to bring cash. If not, you're going to be searching for an ATM in the area (the one at the country club ran out of cash during the day if that tells you anything).

I had a blast. Rode most of the rides (cliff hanger was my favorite), watched Lady Houdini escape from a straight jacket and a water cell, took a picture with the cutest tea cup pig, and petted a bunch of sad looking goats in the petting zoo. Biggest complaints: 1- guided by reflective vested workers, had to park a mile away. Finally got to the gates, there was a parking lot only about a quarter filled for seemingly no reason. But, oh well. A bit of walking doesn't kill me. 2- dirt, dirt, dirt. I wore sandals. My feet were scary dirty by the time I left. But, oh well. This is El Paso, should've expected it. 3- price. $5 park entrance fee. $5-10 Fair entrance fee. Ticket/wristband prices inside the gates. Plus food/drink/activity costs. But, oh well. I knew going in, this was a money trap. 4- upon leaving, it felt like walking out of the fair and into some strange mixture of a car show/barrio/street party. It was a bit uncomfortable walking back to the car. Especially when an inebriated young man stumbled/ran right across my path, drink in hand, to relieve himself just a few feet away. Classy. No "but, oh well"s this time.

There is plenty of parking and a large sign with a map of many trails. Warnings do abound. Apparently, there are unexploded bombs all over the place so the sage advice is to not mess with the ammunition. Works for me! They also recommend dressing properly, not going alone, and bringing lots of water! Well, zero out of three ain't bad! I enjoyed a hike and only visited 1% of the available trails. I never saw another soul or a lazy cow!! Life is good with exploration!

So, FYI the address currently showing on "Loma Suave" IT IS NOT THE TRAIL ENTRANCE! but, it is definitely near. I did adjusted the location on the GPS so if you use your gos through yelp you should make it fine. Now. the actual review: this hiking trail entrance has awesome features provided by the City if El Paso And Franklin Mountains State Park. Kudos to both for putting this together so nicely in 2019. The entrance features an okay size parking lot. Hiking Trail Map, free Bike pump, free recharging hub, water fountain for you and your dog, dog poop bags.m and trash cans. They have hours posted but I have never seen them reinforced other than during early 2020 when the actual city quarantine prohibited park's visitation. I would see the police parked by it to ensure no one went in. There is a state park fee associated, please be kind and pay your fee. This type of awesome trails are possible due to the funds we provide. There are also ways to pay online for the whole year in case you are an avid trail hiker/biker. The trail itself is okay by foot but challenging on bike. It leads to many other trails and distances. This trail also connects to the trail leading to the Tin Mines. Awesome for ruck marches for the military and to get prepared for marathons or simply to take your dog for a walk and family hiking. Super Friendly for everyone. Check the trail map, bring water, pay the fee and adventure!!

This is a small park and great place for family and friends to walk along the trail or for kids to…read moreplay in the playground area. The trail is short (maybe half a mile to 3/4 of a mile) and accesible for bikes and walkers. The path also leads to Lundy Elementary School. There isn't a bathroom or water fountain in the park. Parking is limied but there is usually not a lot of vehicles parked here.

Speeding up those switch backs as best I could. There is a great look out spout about 2/3 of the way up. The last bit up is a bit of a scramble though. It was a quiet Monday afternoon so I had the cave all to myself. Will definitely be coming back here!
