El Peñol 2 has been our go-to spot for years. We eat here at least 2-3 times a week, and somehow they never disappoint. In my opinion, it's the best Colombian restaurant in Massachusetts. The food is always incredible, and one thing I really appreciate is the consistency. No matter when you go, the flavors are always on point. I've tried almost everything on the menu and honestly love it all, but my absolute favorite is the Bandeja Paisa. The chicharrón is hands down the best around, the rice and beans are always perfectly cooked, and every plate tastes like authentic homemade Colombian food. The service is just as impressive as the food. The owners and the entire staff are incredibly friendly, welcoming, and make you feel like family every time you walk in. Even when they're busy, the food comes out surprisingly fast. Parking is very scarce, but they make up for it with friendly service and great food. My boyfriend and I both ordered the sancocho de rés and it did not disappoint. It was so flavorful and the beef was fork tender. The soup comes with perfectly cooked white rice, fried sweet plantain (not greasy at all), and a small garden salad with tiny mandarin slices which gave it a nice flavorful touch. Came across El Penol 2 on our way back from Walgreens & decided to go in. Boy am I glad we did! We were able seat ourselves, hostess came right over, handed us menus, bread basket & took our drink orders. This place serves authentic Colombian cuisine & it was absolutely delicious. We both had grilled steak except mine came with a grilled onion & tomato sauce. Both dishes were served with rice & beans, sweet plantains & a Caesar salad. Super flavorful & very filling. I went to El Peñol 2 located on 570A Broadway in Revere, MA. We had a true Colombian food feast here! For drinks I tried their jugos naturales en augua (nature flavored water). They have so many flavors to try (mango, papaya, guava etc.) and you can get milk versions of them too. I tried their blackberry water and it was super delicious 9/10. For appetizers we had fried plantains 7/10, yucca frita (yucca fries) 7/10 and mixed ceviche platter 7/10. The mixed ceviche platter was quite the sight! It had shrimp, scallops, octopus and avocado. If you are in the mood for some seafood I recommend trying this dish. For main dishes we had the carne en crema de champinoñes (beef in mushroom sauce) 8/10, the picadillo de pollo (marinated chicken) 7/10 and pescado frito (whole fried fish) 7/10. For any of the dishes you can also get a side of rice and beans, fries, salad, or fried plantains. For dessert we got flan 7/10 and churros with ice cream 7/10. This place is very affordable and provides great portion sizes. I can see why they have two other locations (Boston and Brookline!). Next time I come back (or perhaps do delivery!) It's my first time in Boston and for several weeks we were looking for a good Colombian food and we found the place, Food is delicious and service is great. Had a bad experience picking up an order today . I ordered for delivery through the uber app. I decided to go pick it up instead. When I arrived the ladies at the counter didn't let me pick up my order . They told me only the uber driver could pick it up. I explained to them that I do uber eats myself and all they had to do was to tell the driver the order was already picked up. They refused to give me my order and I was forced to wait till the driver got there . When he showed up they gave him the order and he handed it to me right there and then. Excellent little hole in the wall place! Serves a wide wide range of Colombian food, but clearly specializes in the meat dishes. Portions are truly huge (the dish they said serves two could have legitimately fed 5 or 6). Service was very friendly and the ambiance was nice. This place is the secondary restaurant to the main one in East Boston. This location has a fast food and pick up feel to it but with tables to do indoor dining, where as the other location is bigger and more of a sit down. Either way, this place is great. Food tastes just like the other location. If you love soup, I highly recommend their fish soup. It's so good!!! Their smoothies are also great!! read more

Small, no frills restaurant with authentic Colombian food offering. We usually get our order to take out since there is often a line to be seated. If you are new to Colombian food - the most typical meal is the bandeja paisa, which is basically a fried meat platter. They have all sorts of fruit juices that we don't typically see in the US like lulo and guanabana that you can get with water as juice or with milk as more of a smoothie. I was there Sunday Mother's Day and I placed my order my husband and my son as well so far so good. I saw that they gave to the customer a free special dessert for a Mother's Day except for us. I assumed that because .I was the only color person there everyone was light skin color .that was very rude and disrespectful. The food was alright it wasn't the best. What ruin my experience was a piece of rock that I bit really hard. The server told me it was like a piece of bean but I did not believe her. For this mistake I was at least expecting a discount or something but I did not get any so I felt really disappointed. I'm personally not going back there any time soon. read more

This place is a scam. So I placed an order for delivery at 2:20pm while i was working from home. I was so busy that I didn't realize that my food was taking long, 4 pm comes and I called, they said there was traffic, oh I forgot to mention that this place is about 10 minutes from my house. The guy finally arrived with my food at 4:40 and didn't even apologized. I paid with my debit card so he had the machine, verified the balance and I told him that i wanted to tip $3 out of a $13 balance so the total should've been $16. I checked my account the next day and noticed that they charged me $22. I called, and the customer service is TERRIBLE, it was so hard to get through a manager/supervisor. Finally spoke to her and she sounded very apologetic, said she was going to take care of account and call me the next day. This happened 2 weeks ago and I never heard from her. I told her very clear that i am not the type to leave negative reviews if the problem gets resolved and she thank me for calling first before leaving a review. Well.. she never called me or fixed the issue so there you go... be careful with places that don't care about their customers, we shouldn't be helping them to grow.
