Driving down the A13 Route de Normandie, I spied a restaurant off the highway called El Rancho and pointed this out to my boyfriend (it almost feel like we're back in Cali!) and he swerves three lanes and makes an exit to go to this possible Mexican sounding restaurant. We parked, walked closer and I noticed, "whoa, it's texmex!"My boyfriend, who was studying the menu says, "no it's not!!" then I pointed at the sign and said, "then what's that on the big sign???"
We walked in and the place is decorated like it's a tv-stereotypical Mexican restaurant - dessert yellow, fiery red, and cactus green throughout. My bf was disappointed to see that there were no burritos offered, so he settled for a Chicken Enchilada. I didn't really see anything that excited me so i opted for a tapas combo to share, picking 5 items from a list of items: chicken quesadilla, guacamole, nacho (or "fondu fromage"), calamari, and fried potato sticks.
My chicken quesadilla tasted like chinese food, the guac and nacho came out of a jar, the calamari came in three tiny soggy pieces with a giant soggy onion ring masking as a fourth, the fried potato sticks was interesting because it was oddly spicy. The enchilada was large and not mexican tasting. Not very memorable.
Free tortillas and salsa was a bonus but prices are a little on the high side. 10 EUR for the tapas was okay but 15EUR for the enchilada was not worth it. Most of the items on the menu were around 20EUR. Service was good.
