After going through some TripAdvisor recommendations I found this little gem. It can take a while to get served here and I always felt the waiting staff were eager to get away again even if you hadn't actually finished your order yet, however I have also found if you put the charm offensive on them and smile at them a lot they will eventually thaw. Kill them with kindness I always say. Plus, what's the rush guys, you're on holiday, bloody relax! I sampled beautiful Rioja in this place, the food was of very high standard, my highlight being the biggest freshest mussels I had seen in a while and their gin concoctions come in massive goblets with generous amounts of gin and quality tonic mixers. I ended up visiting Tasca la Raspa three times during my stay. Dinner starts at around 8pm but ensure you arrive a bit earlier, maybe for an aperitif, as the place will fill up fairly quickly.

But first it took an eternity until we could place the order for two pieces of cake and two coffees and after we were still waiting for them half an hour later we simply gave up! As you will see from my photo, you have to ascend a series of beautifully designed stone and pebble steps to reach the restaurant. It is not very easy to find, but it is located on the right (sea) heading towards Matagorda and before the San Antonia Hotel. In fact it is right next door to a brand new boutique Hotel, Lanis Suites de Luxe, on the main Avienda. The food is nothing special really, but very good all the same, and similar type fare to most restaurants around, but the location is really something special and not to be missed. It would be particularly romantic for dinner on a warm sunny evening. I have also seen parents enjoying a relaxed lunch while their children were equally relaxed and blissfully happy playing on the sandy beach just a step down from their table! Superb setting.

My mom and I ordered a mixed salad and a paella, knowing it would take ~25 min to cook but extremely content with our seats. I honestly could not stop eating the bread because the mojo sauces that came with them were to die for. My mom made me stop eating so I could rally and finish the paella. Of course all the portions were huge so we couldn't finish them, although we really wanted to keep eating even after we were stuffed. The mixed salad was so fresh and had all sorts of vegetables in it. It seems traditional to put tuna and hard boiled eggs in the "mixed salads" in the canaries, but I love both those ingredients so it's a plus for me. The paella came after we were literally full from the salad, but we obviously had to keep eating. It was so picture worthy and beautiful, with great flavors as well. They don't skimp out on the seafood portion! The restaurant is so affordable and probably the best experience I had dining in the Canaries. If only the islands were closer to the US!
