First things first. How can your restaurant name be "El Tapatio", yet, you don't carry Tapatio hot sauce!? So I've been coming through here for years, and I've never tried this place but I made it a point to today. I think I would have been better off walking to Burger King like I usually do. The place is bigger than it looks. Typical Mexican decorations and a ton of TVs. My bar spot was sticky tho. I sat in the corner of the bar. Some server came and brought chips and salsa and set it two seats over from me. I mean are they for me or? Well, they're still sitting there cuz I dunno. She didn't even acknowledge me. We were actually at 4 stars when I sat down and was greeted by the bartender, but here I am sitting, going on 40 minutes wanting to order another round of food as she makes drinks and waits on other patrons. Maybe she thinks my money ran out. I ordered a vodka Red Bull to start, and then I ordered a "Mezcalito", that was Mezcal and grapefruit soda, with supposedly a black lava salted rim. Nope, jist mezcal and soda tossed into a glass, no salt, even after ASKING for it, but they have plenty for margaritas, and micheladas, even chamoy. Its amazing how much effort she's putting into these cocktails for other people. I do know it's heavily influenced by locals, I talked to a really nice gentleman who came here with his wife every Friday night before she passed last january. Super nice fella. Oohhhh, If the bartender only knew I was a 40% tipper, eh? I won't be tonight. And I'm giving it about 5 more minutes before I pay my bill and walk out of here and go order food across the street. I ordered a "Texas" taco salad, that apparently had steak, chicken and shrimp. It was ok, but the white queso they plated it on is horrible. And it's a lot smaller than I had thought, or what the picture shows, henceforth me STILL sitting here wanting to order more food. They don't have tapatio, or Cholula if that's your thing. They have valentino, you know that hot sauce you put on churros. They don't have cucumber vodka, which really isn't a surprise, but they don't have mint either. The bartender told me people ask for mojitos all the time but they don't have the stuff to make them. Well whaddya know, she finally came back and checked on me after all this time. I'd say the greater of 25 minutes? And I ordered some soup so we'll see how that turns out. I really shouldn't have, but I'm still hungry after my little salad. I just ordered a single shot of Titos over ice, and she took it up on herself to make me another cocktail. I'm not drinking it. I'm seriously thinking about going to one star. As I still sit and wait for my soup. So my Caldo del Mar finally came out. I CAN say that it was piping hot, but I can also say that the flavor of the broth left a lot to be desired. I actually had to ask for probably an entire lime, and even put salt and pepper in it to flavor it up a bit. It had some tilapia and shrimp in it, and broccoli and cauliflower? I understand the carrots but that was strange. Anyhow, I just paid $86 before tip to let myself know that I'll never be back. It was okay, but just not good enough to go back. Looks like I'll be marching up to Burger King tomorrow! If you KNOW Mexican food, then you know this isn't good "Mexican food" if you DONT know, then you'll THINK it's good Mexican food. This was an awesome Mexican restaurant. From the moment we walked in, everyone was warm and welcoming. The staff went out of their way to make us feel at home, and even the other guests created a friendly atmosphere. The highlight, though, was the food. Everything was flawless. The salsa had just the right consistency, a touch of heat, and layers of flavor from the cilantro, onion, and spices--they definitely didn't skimp on quality. The chips were fresh, crisp, and the perfect companion. For dinner, I had the carnitas, and they were outstanding. The portion was generous, the pork was tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. The rice was wonderfully seasoned, and the beans had an amazing depth of taste with a perfect consistency. Overall, I loved every bite and would absolutely come back. Highly recommended. read more

Why do restaurants name a dish after something it's not. Also didn't offer to put in an order for something else when I asked about why the dish isn't an actual Chile relleno. Just walked away. Walked over from the truck stop to enjoy a sit down meal and decided to sit at bar. Food was real good and young lady working behind bar kept my drinks full and carried conversation and cracked jokes. Was my first time here but definitely won't be my last time! I ate there 10/07/2025 after a few drinks I felt way more hammered then I was and during the night puked all over my bed . I had a drug test and found I was ruffied it took me 3 days to recover from the effects of the drugs I was slipped and a week 5 days to feel normal again stay away from this place if you value your health after I left someone approached me and tried to get a place to stay for the night. Don't bother going in unless your group is at least 6 people, or you will be ignored. I had to eat over half of my meal with small pieces of broken chips, because I didn't have a fork. And being a party of ONE, I guess I wasn't worth checking on for 30 minutes after I got my plate. And after I pointed it out to the server, he did bring me a fork, but he said absolutely NOTHING about his mistake. No apology. Nothing. I love when I go to an International restaurant, somewhere in the deep south, and find it thriving! And this place deserves it! It is jam packed for Mothers Day, yet service is attentive, personable and efficient. Chips and salsa are wonderful. Margaritas are great, place is clean, staff is busy and quick, and all the locals love the place too! The staff are okay, they do their job but aren't very friendly (not rude either.) The food is why you come here. I always ordered the chicken fajita quesadilla and chile relleno both are really good. Tonight I ventured out a little and got the tapatio deluxe which came with chicken, steak, shrimp, chorizo, pico de gallo and cheese. I decided to add queso (fajita quesadilla doesn't come with queso by the way) and it was SO DELICIOUS! I also ordered a strawberry daxquari, usually my favorite beverage, but it had absolutely no flavor. Not even of the alcohol. Super disappointing. The meal itself made up for it though big time. I started to go elsewhere because of the photos of the Spanish/Mexican rice. But this was in walking distance to where I'm spending the night. Upon arrival I was seated immediately, it wasn't too busy but it wasn't empty. The waiter came and took our drink orders as soon as we sat down. While he went to fix the drinks a different server brought chips and salsa. So at this point so far so good. We needed a few minutes to place our order and look over the menu. We ordered the shared shrimp fajitas, I ordered the shrimp chimichanga and the hubby ordered the nacho supreme. First off the servings are ridiculously humongous. As I suspected the rice was not very good. I had a feeling it wouldn't be because of the color. The shrimp fajitas were good and the onions and bell peppers were cooked soft enough to enjoy them. My husband likes the nachos. I didn't get to taste it because it had chicken on them. The chimichanga tastes like the fajita except it was in burrito with cheese sauce. As far as flavor it wasn't authentic Mexican flavor. I will add my review may be a bit biased. I recently travelled to Laredo, TX, which is less than 5 miles from the US/Mexican border and the Mexican food there was the best I've ever had! read more

My family and I visit this restaurant at least once every week or two weeks. We love it. The service can be hit or miss with new servers but that being said they are never understaffed and try their best to keep a full staff. With that comes trainees that can miss the mark. However, otherwise the food is always great, service is speedy and we always leave with a smile. read more
