The good news: Their cheese enchiladas are worth my impending gallbladder attack. I had to have one. My mouth was watering, my intestines warned me, but I could not resist. It was velvety smooth and the brown sauce didn't over power the cheese. Bad news: The guacamole wasn't that fresh flavor like you would find at Chevys where they mix it at your table. This place is okay although the food was bland. Everything was under seasoned. Had to add salt and salsa to everything. The waitperson was also okay but never asked if I needed anything. So I had to ask for more salsa, a spoon for it, tortillas. Like that. With the food (chile relleno, cheese enchilada, rice and beans) being soft and fatty, a crunchy salad would have been a good addition, but when I asked about it she said she could make one up for me. That would have been more cost for me. Most places add a bit of salad on the plate. And the one she described was darn boring. The place needs sprucing up, especially the bathroom. A new coat of paint would do wonders. read more

Been coming here for years. The food is really good, I like it a lot, and the service is great. Try their enchiladas and crunchy crab taco. The hot sauce on the table is excellent. As is their Sangrias. But I can't give 4 or 5 stars because I wish they were cleaner. Their one bathroom is just yucky. Grunge on the doors and floors and walls. It just doesn't look clean. And the child seats are just absolutely gross. So when we take the kids I just wonder why we do it. I like the place, like the food, but for me, the place has to be a lot cleaner. I'm probably not going back unless they clean up their act. I hope I can come back and revise this review because I want them to fix this. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this place. The portions for the sides were good size (of rice and beans). The entree was super flavorful (garlic prawns), but I wish i got more than 6 prawns/ shrimp for almost 18 bucks. All and all it was tasty. I will head back to try a less expensive meal. read more

To be honest, I have friends who love this place and friends who hate this place. I side with the friends that love this place. I like everything on the menu, but I normally get the tamale/enchilada combo or the two enchilada plate. You can get green sauce or red sauce at any of the other 50 or so Mexican restaurants in the area, instead this place ladles gravy from the gods over their items. It's golden brown, creamy and...Heaven. The Garlic Prawns are delicious and the Grilled Oysters are excellent! Only complaint is that it's a small place and can get packed quickly, but they take orders to go. read more

If you are in Capitola village and you want Mexican food this is where you go. Best in the village. Very friendly staff. Clean facility.

I had a plate of salt..my rice, meat and beans were all over salted so much so I couldnt eat my food .I did let the waitress know...she did absolutely nothing and pretended that I even let her know.I will not go back even though the young boy who seated me was very sweet and kind.So sad I do not recommend this place. read more

I love this place. After moving closer to the area I ate three times in two days. It gets busy, but I've been able to avoid the rushes. I usually eat the number 1, taco/enchilada rice and beans. beef/chicken, both are good. The salsa's incredible, the people are super cool. This is a small place, could maybe seat 25. I had the chimichanga, it was different than any other one I had before, it wasn't fried. It was closer to an enchilada with all of the sauce that was smothered on it, yet it was still quite tasty. The chips are out of a bag and not made fresh, and the staff is a little dry, not terribly friendly in a place that relies on tourism. They do serve Kona Longboard which is a plus. My friend and I went here last Friday evening as she had a GC to use up. We were told to "sit anywhere" so we choose a 4 person table. Place was not busy. The older man who gave us chips was incredible RUDE and was definately pissed that we choose a 4 person table. At first we thought he was just joking, he was not. Waitress was friendly though. Food was awful. I don't know what happened to the prior owners, but it has gone down hill. The sauce on the enchilada was a brown roux, NOT a mexican sauce by any stretch. Yuck! Do yourself a huge favor and go to Manuel's or Little Tampico instead. read more

WORST PLACE FOR MEXICAN FOOD, EVER!!! I rather go to TacoBell than eat there. walked in and waited 30 minutes to be greeted and seated. No, they were not busy, only had 3 tables, including one that only seated 2 people!! worst customer service ever? extremely rude and very unprofessional. Manager, no where in sight. Looking at the prices and the plates that were brought out while we waited, just not worth it. We do not recommend this place at all. The floors were nasty, dingy and the waiters need to clean their uniforms. Avoid it and save yourselves disappointment. read more

Basically this place was no good. The staff was nice and the place was pretty clean, but the food was boring and bland. The chips were kind of stale, the guacamole was probably fresh out of a bag and my burrito tasted like it was from Taco Bell. My girlfriend is vegetarian and there was no vegetarian section in the menu. I was initially drawn in to try their margarita only to learn they make their margaritas with freaking wine instead of tequila. Who drinks margaritas with wine instead of tequila?! I tried it and immediately returned it. They were pretty bad. If you are going to Capitola I recommend you eat somewhere else. read more

Went on vacation to Capitola last week with my family and after being out in the beach we came to this place, it was 8pm and we were craving Mexican Food. As soon as we walked in the workers gave us the dirtiest looks and looked like they weren't expecting anyone else to come in. We made sure to look at the hours and the place said it closed at 9pm. So we said we'll only be here for half an hour. The owner of the place stared at us the entire time. And our waitress, a young lady, was very rude and almost seemed to have been rolling her eyes every 2 minutes and so we hurried and then finished eating and left a tip on the table and was waited to receive our credit card back. She quickly before we left the table came and snatched the tip in front of us and almost looked angry at what we left her. Which was a decent amount considering she wasn't nice. I just know for a fact that I will never return to that place again. If you want business, please put your customer first. read more

Back when my son was about 3 months old, me, him, and his dad went here in hopes of having a nice lunch together. But man were we wrong, right when we walked in we were not greeted and when we were they made it sound like it was an in convince to them. We also got not so friendly looks from what I assume was the host and servers as I was holding my baby. I asked for a plain burrito and I got something completely different. We then decided to go home before we finalized eating we tried to ask for a box but had gotten ignored and when we finally got one they seemed to be more upset with is. I just don't like eating at a place where I feel like an I convince to them and get dirty looks. I'm sorry I will not be coming back anytime soon. :( read more

We have been to El Toro Bravo a handful of times. The atmosphere leaves much to be desired, but the food was okay and it was quick. The last time we went, we paid with our credit card and our information was stolen and used for online purchases. We had to get all new cards. Lesson: If you want okay Mexican food served in a depressing atmosphere, than this is the place for you. But PAY WITH CASH!!! read more

Just ok... ordered the combination plate with a crunchy taco and enchilada, bean and cheese burrito, and a side of guacamole. They did not have shredded beef they only offered asada or ground beef so we went with the ground beef. First time I have had ground beef in an enchilada, honestly I didn't like the texture combination and the beef tasted like the Taco Bell beef. I guess some people would like that. The taco was ground beef as well, it was okay- no complaints. The guacamole was very creamy in consistency but didn't taste great. The restaurant itself was a bit odd, you walk in and there's no real entrance. You literally walk right in to the dinning room, so we went on to order our food to go and the waitress just left is standing there in the middle of the dinning room. We were unsure of what to do, should we sit or stand outside??? We decided to go for a quick walk and come back. When we came back we asked where would be a good place to wait on our to go order as there is no designated place, the waitress said we could wait outside or in the back room. Now this back room seemed like the restaurant storage with a few tables back there. I honestly don't know why they would allow customers to sit back there, not appealing at all. So while waiting back there I notice the waitresses filling up the chips baskets from a storage container sitting on a crate in a hall. They were both going to town digging their hands in the chips to serve the customers, I was so grossed out. Won't ever be going there again. read more

We were really disappointed. The salsa was watery and bland, without tomato chunks, and tasted more like ketchup. The fish tacos consisted of a few pieces of old tasting fish buried deep inside a mound of shredded lettuce and cilantro. It was more like a shredded taco salad with old fish pieces. My wife told me that used to be a popular spot for locals back in the '90s when she was in high school, so we walked in on a Saturday evening to see how is today. First of all, the entrance on the back is really questionable, kind of a storage, then the smell is pretty strong... but I'm a professional traveller and I'm from the old world, so I know that sometimes messy and smelling spots hide the best experience... not this one! We was greeted by a very young girl, maybe the daughter? Too young to be a real hostess for sure, but she was nice, so even if I can't rate over one star I still would like to encourage her, good job kid to partecipate to the family business! Unfortunately the food was bad tasting and not properly prepared. The only acceptable thing is the guacamole. We ordered beef tamales and chile relleno, with rice and beans. Both really not-edible. Maybe was a wrong night, maybe their tacos are better, I don't know and I hope my experience was an exception, but I would never accept a restaurant to allow that food on a table, even for mistake. Is a quesitone of safety (was bad in the way that is dangerous for the health), not palate. read more

While I have loved and enjoyed this restaurant for the past 40 years, my last three orders have been terrible. From forgetting 3 items, sending the wrong ones, and the items that do arrive are not of quality. I used to brag about the enchilada sauce. Today it was as runny as water and quite gross. So disappointed. And I have given them two chances after really messing up an order last month. read more

Being that this restaurant was in the area of so many other great ones, our expectations were pretty high that it was gonna be awesome. The staff was friendly but busy. I ordered a chimichanga and was told they do it differently and that it's not deep fried but thought I'd try anyway. It was basically a smothered burrito with only beans and meat inside (I asked for no onions). Thankfully the plate came with some lettuce and tomatoes with guacamole on it and I asked for sour cream. I put all of that and the salsa from the chips on it which gave it some more flavor, but not something I would order again. My hubby got chili verde and said it just wasn't real flavorful, he said the meat was too well done. Needless to say, neither of us took our leftovers and will wait till we get back home if we want Mexican while here. read more

The worst taqueria in SC. I have lived in SC my whole life and decided to try this place for the first time after wharf to Wharf. The warning sign should have been that they didn't know what Al Pastor is after we asked if they had it. When the food came, the burritos were not tightly wrapped which made for all of the burrito filling fall out instantly. The salsa tasted like mostly a can of tomato sauce and that was their spicy salsa. Then came the prawn tostada; $9.00 for ONE tostada. It straight up looked like slop. The tostada was burried under beans, melted cheese, lettuce, a few prawns and some other unappetizing toppings. By far the worst thing I've ever seen. A shrimp/prawn tostada should be served as a fresh ceviche and NEVER with beans. Then to top it off, the older Mexican man working there was super rude to us and gave us bad glares which caused us to leave ASAP. read more
