We were very disappointed as this is the first visit to this restaurant since before Covid. The food was just as good as ever. The service was just as good. However the first thing we experienced was sticky and crusty meal menus. A turn off. But we were very hungry and considered this to be a fluke. We ordered a salmon chimichanga. It came within a reasonable amount of time and looked lovely with fresh ingredients. However right away I could smell rancid oil! Another turn it off. But we continued anyway. The floor was dirty. The bill came in a grimy folder. Ugh! We enjoyed the food. However I do not think we will be coming back anytime soon unless we are re-assured that they have cleaned the place thoroughly. read more

i don't think this place is as bad as previous reviews call it. there are definitely better mexican spots in the area, but this is still a really good choice. my go-to here is the arroz con pollo because it's the ultimate comfort food dish. the menu here is huge though, and they are always updating it so you can always try something new! the margaritas here are also really freaking delicious which is always always a bonus! read more

We stopped here for lunch today and both ordered the lunch chimichangas. I got chicken and my partner ordered beef. They were served with rice, beans and sauce. Delicious! I actually really enjoyed my experience here! The birria tacos were AMAZING! Our server was so sweet and helpful! The only reason I'm not rating it 5 stars is because the appetizers were lacking a little- no homemade chunky guacamole :( they did offer "guacamole" but it's literally just avocados with no tomatoes, onions, jalapeños etc. I could definitely tell this is an Americanized Mexican restaurant but I will definitely be back for more birria tacos! read more

El Toro is my absolute favorite restaurant. Whenever I want to go out for a special occasion it's my first choice. The service has always been amazing (and I've been there to many times to count) and the food is always sizzling rite off the grill. Great staff which is also a plus. Always very pleasant and caring. Waiters carry 2-5 plates at once which is a site to see. The décor is traditional Spanish theme which is nice and it even has tables outside to sit at. The last time I was there was for a birthday party and there was roughly around 20 of us and we got our food about 15 minutes after ordering it. read more

Very disappointed... we ordered dinner for delivery and the girl on the phone was nothing less than pleasant. After finally getting my order though I had to ask her to write my phone number down because she didn't even ask. I agreed to pay in person with cash.Food arrives and the delivery man claimed he didn't have any change. So we pay him a full $40.00. Once we get upstairs and look at food the sides of rice and beans aren't even in the box . Very disappointed in the service . I could tell the chips were freshly fried, instead of from under a heat lamp, by their smell when they were put beside me and I liked the consistency of the salsa. The shrimp fajitas were delicious, well seasoned and accompanied by plenty of peppers, onions and toppings. This was the worst Mexican food ever we had not been here for almost a year. Now I remember why. I ordered a chimichonga it came out in a greasy blob on the plate there was actual grease under the blob. The white mushy tortilla was not cooked at all. After a 9 hour drive from central Wyoming, I was looking for a good Mexican restaurant. My dad had recommended this place, or, what I later learned was the place that existed prior to El Toro. Folks in Grand Island must not have access to decent Mexican to rate this establishment anything higher than 1 star. The Atmosphere: The restaurant is noisy and bright, with stiff uncomfortable benches and an open seating environment. It felt like a converted McDonalds or Wendy's. The Service: Our waiter was impatient as I navigated the expansive menu trying to find something that looked good. I settled on a chicken taco salad, my dad tried a beef burrito. The Drinks: With the price of the drinks, I expected something good after the long drive. The margaritas arrived looking like fresh radiator fluid and tasting like pure candy, with hardly a taste of tequila at all - not a good start for an 8 dollar drink. I suggested to my dad that we pay for the drinks and go to Olive Garden. I usually finish my drinks, I left half of it for the waiter. The Food: The plates arrived, finally some food. My dad had to dig through 1/4" of cheese (which left an appetizing puddle of orange grease around the plate) that was melted on top in order to find his burrito, which was soggy and tough to cut into. My chicken salad appeared better at first, and came in a red-dyed shell basket. As I dug into it was disappointed to find a mere one layer of diced lettuce covering three huge bland slabs of chicken breast. The amount of grease emanating from the chicken breasts had melted the bottom of the taco bowl, creating a soggy red mess of chicken, soggy taco, and sauce. The Aftermath: We were quite hungry, but left half the food on the plate, having coated our insides sufficiently with grease and candy water. Fortunately we were only driving through, but I hope this review can help others new to the area to avoid this establishment. We should have gone to Olive Garden. read more

Best "Americanized" Mexican food I've had in GI. Had the #7 with beans and rice (very good frijoles and rice BTW) along with a tasty margarita for $18+ tip. A group of people went to El Toro for lunch on Thursday and I have to say I was impressed how the waiters waited on us hand and foot making shur our glasses were full and that the food was really good. It was a lot of food it got me full and kept me that way until dinner that afternoon. I also can say the atmosphere was making me think I was in Mexico but then some of the music would change but that's the only thing wrong with El Toro is to just stick with the authentic music from Mexico. read more

I went to El Toro for lunch for my English class and i was not very impressed. I had the Burrito Carne Azada. The meat was chewy and the chips had a funny taste to them and left a horrible after taste. Also, the place where they seated us was very dirty and it smelled like windex. There were chips all over the floor and it made me kind of uncomfortable. The waiter was very friendly besides the fact that he barely knew English. I recently ate at El Toro for lunch with one of my classmates. I was rather disappointed with the service that day, because I have had much better service during other visits. They were a little busy, but that is no excuse for not even checking on us after we received our food. The chips were warm and crispy, and the salsa was delicious, so that made up for the bad service a little bit. I ordered that Queso Blanca, it tasted kind of like Alfredo, and that was not what I expected. It wasn't the best. The feel of the restaurant was very authentic, and the music was also. Sadly, when I stood up I realized that I had nearly sat in salsa, and for that I think they should be more strict on cleanliness. Overall, it is an ok restaurant for an ok price. I recently went to El Toro with my English Comp 101 group as and assignment. We were to go, eat, and review the restuarant. El Toro has very friendly, fast service, and their food is simply amazing! I like it even more than Carlos O Kellys! They were very good about making sure we had every thing we needed. They food was great I order a Chicken Quesadilla! The meat was very well seasoned and the cheesyness of it was amazing! The meal only cost me $5.85 and I even order a lemonade! Thats a great deal! I loved every minute I was there. Right next to the Blockbuster, this is one of the best restaurant of any kind in Grand Island, NE. we have been assigned to visit one of the Mexican restaurant in the town and my group went to El Toro. our experience was pleasure and unforgettable. very welcomed atmosphere. the waiters were very friendly. upon entry we got seated and being served chips and salsa right away. the service was really amazing and the food, hot, fresh and delicious. the price was also reasonable and affordable. they even play a very nice Mexican music as background. overall, this is a great place! don't have a plan to cook and more likely to go out and eat I would suggest you to try El Toro!! read more

On October 14th, me and my English comp 101 group went to El Toro Mexican Restaurant for a group project. To start off, the location for El Toro is almost perfect! It's right off highway 281 and next to a popular bar "Balz" and next to our only mall in Grand Island. So besides the fact it's visible from directiions, it's painted a yellowish orange and is very noticeable. When I walked in I was pleased with how well it looked inside, there wasn't crap on the floor and all the tables were whipped down and the seats weren't all crumby from previous people eating there. The service was GREAT! Our group got seated very quickly, and after we sat down the waiter brought out chips and salsa for us to eat while we looked over the menu. The prices on the menu were very reasonable, not to expensive. I don't know how but when we all decided in our mind what we all wanted to eat the waiter came at the perfect time! Which was great! Last but not least, food! Always save the best for last! The chips and salsa was very good. I ordered the enchilladas, pretty much what I order at any Mexican restaurant I ever go to. They had had a lot of drink choices, pepsi products, lemonades, and alcoholic beverages. But I just stuck with getting a water. The enchilada with cheese, meat, and sour cream was muy delishioso!
