A very festive and colorful Mexican restaurant in McKenzie, Tennessee! The mariachi music, colorful murals, anf carved wood chairs transport you to from the South to South of the Border! Large tables for families are inside. I had the chicken and ham fajitas. The portion size was enough for two! Lots of meat with a full compliment of rice, beans, and vegetables. The service was prompt. The chips, salsa, and tortillas were average. If those improve this could be rated even higher! read more

I promise you, I know Mexican food. Some of the people here do not. If you want ambiance and run-of-the-mill Mexican cuisine , eat here. If you want excellent Mexican food in McKenzie, eat at Maria's!! Everything we have tried here tastes like "heat and serve" frozen entrees, not much tastes like fresh. The chips and salsa were the best part of our meals. None of the food we ordered was bad, but none of it was memorable either. If you frequent these common Mexican restaurants, the food here will be familiar to you. The wait staff act like their doing you a favor by taking your order and a bigger favor actually bringing it to you. No smiles, no happy faces and nobody seems to care about quality anything. read more

This Yelp review is the 2nd ever for McKenzie, I hope the list of reviews keep growing. :) I grew up in McKenzie, but I now live in Aptos, California. I wanted to write a review for El Vallarta because this place rivals the best Mexican restaurants that I have been to in California! I just wish this place was around when I had lived in McKenzie. But, it is a great place to go when I am visiting family and friends. First, this restaurant has plenty of seating, many in comfy private booths. The decor is very colorful and bright, which puts a smile on my face every time I am there. I also love the variety in the menu, which includes many combinations of enchiladas, burritos, fajitas, etc. but also a sizable a la carte menu as well including salads and baked potatoes (for those not keen on just Mexican cuisine). I especially love their chile verde enchiladas and pork tamales, delicious! Also, the prices can't be beat - very reasonable. The service is also great, never an empty glass. And, did I mention you get free chips and salsa? This is a great place for large groups or families to meet. I highly recommend El Vallarta as the go-to restaurant in McKenzie! read more

Hands down my favorite Mexican restaurant!!! I've never had a bad experience here. Every now and then my order might get mixed up and is quickly fixed. But that is rare! The El Vallarta special, burrito verde, or the El Vallarta delight are my favorites. The employees are always polite and they have great customer service. Been there about five times. Always get great service and great food. Tonight was no exception. I wanted a dish I had the previous year when I was there last but didn't see it on the menu. The waiter said they could make whatever I'd like. And they did. It was perfect. He kept us in tea and salsa the whole time. And the best part...no corona craziness. read more

I was just in McKenzie for a car show and went into EL VALLARTA to eat lunch and I was very very impressed! The scenery was impressive and the food was incredible! There was not only a buffet going on but the buffet was hands down the best I've ever seen! The best different varieties of food choices, the best quality and taste at that I was very impressed the only thing that was crappy was our waitress she was slow, she only came to our table one time to check on us since she sat us down we sat there for over 40 minuets after we ate waiting on the check before we had to get up and hunt her down. We have her our debit cards to pay and sat back down to our table for another 20 minuets before we went up to the front counter and there our cards were just sitting out in the open on top of the front desk for anybody to grab and run out the door! She was a bigger young gal with white blonde hair. So other than her I'm still giving 5 stars to how good the food was. read more

The food was great! The staff was mediocre with the "friendliness" part of the business. We did not get a hello, how are you all, we didn't even get a smile from the time we walked in until we left. The Host/cash register woman was so unfriendly and really did not care that she was making a lot of people uncomfortable with her attitude. The server was tentative to us the whole time. The only thing he didn't get right was the size of my order. I ordered lunch portion and he gave me dinner portion. I didn't complain because he didn't charge extra! He couldn't really speak English that well but he did a heck of a job getting our orders correct and understanding everything we asked for! He smiled and actually said hello! The food was brought out to us quickly and like I said drinks stayed full, the food was delicious and cooked to order! The facility and parking lot was free of trash and the temperature on the inside was perfect! Overall this is a great family restaurant! If you can get past the evil looks and no smile of the cashier/Hostess lady then you should be ok! Give them a try I know you will be satisfied! read more

Very average food quality. Has a lunch buffet sometimes, but again, the food is so-so. My wife likes the rice better than most Mexican restaurants. No beer, which is a travesty. Typical, gaudy, hideous, American stereotype of what a Mexican restaurant should look like inside and out. Maria's in McKenzie or Los Portales in Martin are FAR superior IMHO. read more

El Vallarta is nothing special. The food is typical American Mexican food. They do not serve alcohol, so no margaritas.

The restaurant was clean, service was excellent and the food was best. Generous portions of hot fresh food. Without a doubt the best Mexican food I've eaten in years. Well done! We will be back. read more
