I had a family member who estranged from our family back in 1973. She called me out of the blue about 7 months ago wanting to come visit for a day or two. When she showed up, she said she planned on moving in with my wife and I. We quickly realized she had memory issues and needed 24 hour care. We suddenly found ourselves needing urgent placement for my dad. I left messages at three places. EPP contacted me right away. (One of the other well known services was a joke. They clearly were not from here as they did not know the towns or how far apart they were. They gave me one listing 30 miles away and told me I had to call them directly for information. The other place did eventually call back but by then we were well on our way with EPP). Ina took all the relevant information and set up tours with Nicole the following week. Nicole lined up tours at five different placements, all unique and all able to handle his special medical needs. We were so lucky to find the perfect place right in town and to get an opening the following week. Both Ina and Nicole were so supportive throughout this very stressful process. This review is long overdue. I called Nicole in a panic when "J" - the person I am caring for - needed to move from skilled nursing to a group home. I knew nothing about choosing a facility and I live 200 miles away! Nicole went right over and met with "J" and assessed her abilities and needs. She then recommended a facility in Paso Robles that has been a godsend. "J" is happy, well cared for and continues to improve following her stroke in late 2014. Nicole was so willing to talk to our family and show us the facilities that were available. It seemed like it was the solution to a sad, sad problem...finding appropriate loving care for our loved one. We're were up front and honest about his needs, asked lots of questions, and took about a month to make the decision to place him in a home in Grover Beach. In less than 24 hours my mother was contacted by the care giver, who told her he probably couldn't stay, but they would give it a few weeks. What happened? He was holding a pet that looked much like his own pet. The owner of the home told him it wasn't his dog, that "his" dog was at "his" home. He then tried to take the. Dog from him, so he slapped him. This was the first time he ever did anything like that. He is 80 years old, yet they labeled him combative and the caregiver told my mother several times that the owner was intimidated by him and he couldn't stay. These people obviously are not trained to understand nor properly interact or care or Alzheimer's patients. On the 4th day, the caregiver called my mom at 5:30 pm and told her she had to come and get him because the owner was intimidated by him. When my mother picked him up, he was trembling and scared. He hadn't' been shaved since he arrived, his clothing had only been changed one time, and it looked like he had not been bathed. In addition, they did not want to fully refund my mother until the threat of a lawyer. My mother and I have both tried to contact Nicole Pazdan, but she no longer returns our calls.
