There are plenty of unique items in this store, that's for sure! We wandered in here (there are not many places to do so in this town) last month. The lady working here was friendly enough and not hovering, so that was a plus. She did get a little spastic when a lady entered shortly after us and failed to spritz her hands with the sanitizer at the door (guess what lady, we didn't either when we came in). Anyhow, the only thing that caught my attention were some fabric oriented handcrafted / hand woven ornamental cushions / wall pieces designed as colorful fish. Actually they caught my under 2 years old grand daughter's attention HAHAHA. I had not bought her a real souvenir on our trip yet and since we were babysitting, while mom and dad zip lined somewhere nearby, I let her pick one out from the dozen present. There were no price tags denoting the cost of these rightfully beautiful items; hmmmmm. She gleefully chose one and we went to the counter. Okay I'm on vacation and expect to pay a little extra for whatever, especially in Hawaii. Cha ching, that'll be $75. WTF? Damn, I was expecting a high of MAYBE $45. So, yes, they have some very nice and unique items in this store, but be prepared to drop a few more coins than expected. Yes, I bought the woven colorful fish for my baby doll anyhow. I wasn't about to disappoint the wee one and I had to be stoic in front of my wife who was laughing internally at me, knowing I can be a cheap ass. This thing was made in Sri Lanka and is suppose to be a one of a kind item. Even if it's not I doubt my granddaughter and her parents will ever bump into anyone having anything similar. Fast forward a month later - she has named the fish (Bubbles), sleeps with it regularly, and carries it with her on outings. So, I guess it was well worth the $$$. If I ever had a reason to go back to this part of the island I'd probably return and see what the latest unique thing the owner has in there. Who knows, I may end buying something else too. The place was A-OK in my books. read more

We love visiting the town of Hawi when on the big island, and this is a beautiful shop. My three daughters and I went i to shop and browse the lovely merchandise. We followed the rules of masking and sanitizing at the door. We tried not to be too put off by the owner hovering as we shopped, as she was giving information about the local artisans. This all changed when she started questioning my daughter about a pair of earrings she picked up and admired- basically accusing us of stealing. I might mention my daughters are adult- not young children We left with a terrible impression and will not be returning. read more

I stumbled upon this beautiful jewelry and crafts store while touring the little downtown area of Hawi!!! The window display is what grabbed my attention! In this little shop I found some of the most creative unique beautiful jewelry pieces for men and women that I've seen in all of Hawaii. They had some amazing Koa wood jewelry, but I bought enough of that in Oahu. I ended up going with jade jewelry. I bought jade stud earringthat were a truly outstanding dark shade of green and I also bought a donut jade necklace.... Just stunning not too fancy very zen and hippy like! Let's just say when I was in Hawaii I was super chill in all sense of the word! I don't recall the young ladies name that was working but she gave my friend and I excellent directions see a beautiful lookout of the area just north of the area. This is the best shop on the Island and a heartbeat of Hawi -- the best little town on the Big Island. Elements sells the finest art, jewelry, and gifts made here in Hawaii. Forget the tourist crap. This is where the real Art and gifts are. Every year, we shop at Elements for special friends, family, and our house / pet sitter. Bought a plate made by Marian Fieldson from this place. The plate is made using a glass making process with Lava molds. Very unique if you're looking for something to bring home as a memento of the trip. My wife and I usually try to find something and this was it. Very vibrant in colors, now that it's at home, at 9:20 or right when the light shines through, turns that plate into an amazing orchestra of colors and brilliance. I happened to walk by this little store on the way to get ice cream, and was attracted to the sparkly earrings in the window. We made time to visit before we left Hawi, and I wish we had spent more time there. So many lovely things to see! I ended up with two pairs of earrings and a beautiful woodblock print of an endemic bird. This shop is well worth a visit. read more

It's unfortunate, because we love to patronize and support local businesses and we were intending to purchase a piece of art to take home. But the owner/employee was the most unfriendly person we've run into in 9 days in Hawaii. She barked at us to use hand sanitizer at the door (which we were fine with doing, and, yes, we were all wearing masks), but then never said hello or greeted us in any way. She then proceeded to glare at us and give us the stink eye the entire time we looked around the store. My wife dropped her sunglasses on the floor at one point and perhaps she thought we knocked something down. But the way to address that is to engage and talk to us and not just glare. I feel bad for the local arts and crafts people who hope to sell their goods in this place. They won't have much success as long as this lady is running the joint. read more

I visited Elements Jewelry & Crafts in September 2021 after having a wonderful lunch next door at Bamboo Restaurant & Gallery. I'm always on the hunt for earrings and found a pair of lovely Leighton Lam earrings. This shop has a great selection of really beautiful jewelry, pottery, and artwork. The owner commented that my husband and teenage son were very patient as they cooled their heels waiting for me to make a selection. I responded that I was under great pressure to find something since I only had a few minutes to browse. I can't wait to return to visit this shop the next time we visit the Big Island! read more

I loved this shop in Hawi, full of beautiful handmade jewelry and other decor items like Christmas ornaments, pottery, and art prints. We had visited the previous location in Kapa'au, and it was great to find it again in Hawi. The owner was behind the counter and was super friendly, pointing out the items made by locals, including jewelry designed and made by her husband, John Flynn. I had my sights set on a pair of niobium metal earrings made to look like a pair of mangos--so beautiful! Unfortunately they were a little out of our tight vacation budget, so I chose a pair of beautiful glass earrings instead, also handmade by a local. There's no hard sell here, and the items speak for themselves. Well-made, well-displayed and great items to take home as remembrances of Hawi town and the Big Island. read more

Elements is a charming little shop in Kapa'au, on the road to the Pololu Valley Lookout. There's a variety of goods available, some of them extremely affordable, some more expensive, but all of high quality. The crafts are local: the proprietor told me stories about each of the artists, allowing me to get a feel for the source of the crafts as well as the item itself. It's well worth a stop, and if you are looking for a special gift, worth a trip of its own. The shop cat is a character -- you can admire her fur from a distance, but if you want to make friends, you'll need a bribe! read more

Wonderful store, great selection of really different jewelry, pottery, fabrics, paintings. If you can't find something for everyone here, you just haven't been paying attention. I got a great pair of abalone earrings and this delightful little Hawaiian hawk pitcher, and I'm still thinking about the bird pottery vessel I unwisely left behind. Never pressuring customers to buy or making recommendation just to make a sale. We visited this store while on a drive around the island. Hawi is a charming little town with a number of interesting shops. I really liked Elements. I purchased several pieces of jewelry there for my daughters. I was very happy with my purchases, secure in my feeling that I had found unique pieces made by local designers. Imagine my surprise when I went to the Kona street market - 3rd sunday of every month and found the designers of the items I had purchased offering their wares for half the price. I do not fault the owners of Elements. It is, however, very upsetting to have spent several hundred dollars more for the exact same items. I asked one of the designers about this and she merely said that's the way it is for the designers as the market only happens once a month. In most instances most customers would never know but since we were flying home that day we spent the day in Kona thinking the day long market would be a fun experience for our last day. Well, it was informative to say the least. We are going back this March and will definitely go back to Elements, we aren't there during the market day in Kona. Elements has a wonderful selection of items -- too bad some of their designers sabotage the experience by selling their ware for 1/2 price elsewhere. read more

This shop is amazing. I seriously wanted to pack up everything in the store and take it home. My favorite items were the volcanic art glass dishes and platters by Marian Fieldson. So beautiful and not something that is sold in very many places on the island. Next time I go back to visit family, I will be going out to Hawi just to go to Elements. As if the selection of great things wasn't enough, the woman working there was absolutely wonderful. As I was browsing, she took the time to answer the many questions my husband had about how some of the items in the shop were made. Having worked in customer service for many years in various industries, I am incredibly picky and I don't hesitate for a second to give Elements five stars. read more

Spent the day wondering around Hawi last week and this is by far the best store I came across. The jewelry is exquisite and I noticed they carry a wide variety, so if you are looking for every day wear or something more elaborate this is the place!!! I also noticed a few green stone selections. Since moving to Hawaii after living in New Zealand people are constantly asking me where on Island they can buy a Green Stone like mine, and this is the only store I've come across offering them. October 2011. Visited twice during our two week stay on the island. This shop is truly dedicated to supporting the local artists with a genuine flair for the Big Island. The items we purchased are now adorned in our Midwest US home. We visit the islands often and always find the Big Island to be the most eco-friendly, even with their arts. We recently purchased a few pieces that were made of recycled/reused blown glass 'mess-up' pieces. The owners are delightful, knowledable and supportive of the artists they consign with. read more
