First let me clarify the actual massage service was excellent. Jeanne S. is an amazing therapist. I did not feel awkward or uncomfortable at all. She even informed me to check in with my doctor about a iffy spot on my back. I trust her skills. This 1-star review is purely reflecting upon the administrative service. I booked online and with Jeanne S. because I looked up the website and saw she's in-network with Premera and I have my doctor's referral/diagnosis to to bill thru insurance. Soon after I booked online, studio called to ask if I can change my time from 8pm to 6pm. I had no problem with that. Then the staff reminded me to be early and bring my insurance card and have doctor send them the diagnosis. Simple, understood. On the day of check-in (10/28), I gave insurance card to front desk. She said they received referral but not the codes but if they need more info they'll contact my doctor. Again, simple, no problem here. After session, I was charged with $59. Next day (10/29), I emailed them to ask if I'm billed incorrectly because $59 seemed high. The first response (10/31) from the studio stated they confirmed with my insurance and benefits that my copay is $25 and allowable 30 visits a year and that I should specify the in-network therapist when I make appt. I called my insurance to confirm copay is correct but with 45 visits instead of 30. I also noticed nowhere in their response they addressed refunding me the overcharge. On 11/2, I responded to explain that from the interaction I had on the phone and in-person with the studio, I thought I did my due diligence that my intention to bill thru insurance. I don't know how much more explicit I could be. I also corrected that my # of visits and I requested a refund for overcharge amount. Second response (11/6) was from Jennifer J., the manager of the studio. She started with first sentence "Hi Sarah, We apologize for the delay in response, we are a very busy studio and ask our clients to please give us a couple days to respond to issues and concerns." OK...this is 4 days later but whatever. Second sentence, "If you would rather not take the time to let the front desk know if you are going through insurance and are booked with someone out of network you will be charged the walk in rate of $89. No exceptions. Since we do most of the work when billing your insurance, we do require some effort and responsibility on the clients end to make things run a bit smoother. We will happily refund the difference of 34 to your credit card. I have reconfirmed your benefits with PREMERA - you do get 45 rehab visits per calendar year. The insurance specialist who we had spoken to earlier - had quoted the wrong number of visits. Let me know if you have any other questions. We appreciate the patience our clients. Thank you, Jennifer J. | Manager" REALLY, Jennifer J.!? I immediately emailed back my frustration to point out she obviously didn't read my email entirely or conducted a thorough conversation with her staff cuz if she did, she would understand I did inform the studio about insurance billing and I booked correctly with the therapist. I also pointed out that it looks like she went on an effort to list blame on me with false accusation and blame on my insurance company. This could have been a simple misunderstanding and we could've moved on very easily to agreement. Instead, Jennifer just fueled the blame to client. I included in my response to her that next time I book with Jeanne S., I'll be sure to ask to speak with her because I'd like to speak with her in person. 30 min later after my angry response, I received this, "Hi Sarah, I do apologize for sounding rude, that was not my intention. I was trying to solve the issue at hand about insurance and session booking. The email we sent to you about the benefits, is a generic wording we send to all our insurance clients. You were booked correctly and did see a therapist IN NETWORK. The only reason we charged you full price that day is because your insurance benefits had not been in yet due the fact we didn't have the legal name that was on your insurance plan. I do again apologize for sounding rude. Thank you, Front Desk Staff" NO, Jennifer J., your intention was to blame me cuz you didn't get the facts straight. This is customer service 101. You could've provided the reason for incorrect billing from the start, but you didn't and now you're just back-paddling. This is not OK if that's how this manager's first reaction to customer's inquiry about billing confusion is. read more

The good: The place has a convenient location, and has private parking. The one time I did manage to get an appointment, I was pleased with the job that Clayton did. Accommodated the pressure as it suited me and gave some good tips on some stretches for certain sore spots after the appointment. The bad: The booking system is horrendous. You can request an appointment online, but that's the only thing that it is, it's a request. Multiple people are allowed to request the appointment, so there's no guarantee that you even get one. One time I got called back just to be told that someone got the appointment instead of me. Another time I got a call telling me that this slot is only for a 90 minute appt, and not a 60 minute one, even though their booking system never indicated that. Furthermore I was told there were 0 available appointments left. Note that an hour earlier (before the place was even open), the system showed about 5-6 slots that day. So whatever system they have, it's just not working. read more

I like massage places with receptionists and multiple therapists working there (rather than someone's rented room where they do everything). It seemed like the massage therapist's hands were tired so it was more of a caress even though I told her I like deep tissue. She also cut it to 45 min. It was the most rushed massage I ever had. I should give one star given their poor customer service but I feel the massages deserve about 3-4 stars so I'm splitting the difference. They have a yearlong membership deal for $59 a month you get a 1 hour massage, and every year you are a member you get one free hour. My first visit of the membership I asked if I could save my free massage for another time, that way I can use it to treat myself to a free massage when I'm really craving one and know it won't cost anything. So, on the form it says "Received Free Massage?" Given that I did not receive a free massage and the choices were "yes" or "no", I chose "no", as in no, I did not receive a free massage, I am using my free massage for a later date, and the front desk said that will be fine. About 10 months into my membership I said hey, why don't I use that free massage I have reserved. They told me because I checked "no" for "Received free massage" I technically opted-out. Instead of saying they understand their form was confusing, that I have been paying for almost a year and that was the deal they offered so they could give it to me anyway, they said it's too late. I opted out so there is absolutely nothing they can do. I feel like I am in the right and they are in the wrong and they refuse to acknowledge it. This is why crappy chain places should be avoided. A cool independent neighborhood massage clinic would never treat their customers like this. read more

I apologize for not writing this sooner. I had a great massage there about 3 weeks ago. Before I even came in, I felt good about how I was spoken to on the phone: preofessional, thoughtful and paying attention. He offered to pencil in a massage time for me because they were going fast and I had to check on one thing. Good thing he did! Then directions in a slightly congested area. I got mixed up as the bank is now in a different place than I had recalled. I went around a corner thinking," where is this place? Where is that sign he said was right there?" OK Well, there it is. Just like he said. Parking right in front - free. they have 4 or 5 spaces ( slightly narrow) . I liked the building feel. The flowers and bushes outside were immaculately groomed. Inside I was greeted nicely and sat a few moments in a calm room. My massage was excellent! my therapist really listened.. I had wanted work especially doen on 2 target areas.. " forget the arms, please!" She rememberred to ad dtiem to my needs and was thoughtful asking me about use of time. She also gave me free samples of a foot pain relief which I appreciated. My daughter and I both ended up with gift certificates, so we decided to go together! Talking in the lobby, even quietly, seemed very public, and awkward, as the receptionist could hear everything we said. I don't recommend it! I loved Suki - she has a very healing presence, and I immediately felt very comfortable with her. I also like really deep pressure, and she's able to do that quite nicely! My daughter's appointment, though, was supposed to be 80 minutes, and, though they had two ways of knowing that - her gift certificate number and my saying it - she was only booked for 55 minutes. I have had a really positive experience here. The people working the front desk have been lovely and professional, even when I had my wallet stolen over the holidays and they had to hold my membership for like 4 months and then switch to a new card... all a hassle for them I'm sure, but you wouldn't know it. They have treated me with kindness and respect on every occasion. As for the the LMP... John S. is amazing! I explained my weight loss goals and that I am a competitive weightlifter. He knew exactly what my body was up against. I felt completely safe and my body was handled professionally. The work he has been doing over the last few sessions has greatly improved my range of motion and recovery time when I'm lifting. I have had a number of massages at some of the most "top of the line, 1st class establishments". This was by far the best massage I have ever received from anyone, and it was only $50 at the introductory rate. I saw Corrine, she was very sweet and applied just the right amount of pressure. I could not tell what part of her arm or hand she was using, which gave the massage a nice seamless feel. The room was dimly lit, had a chocolate, and soft relaxing music playing. I felt muscles tingle that I never felt before, it was amazing. My only complaint is that they do not offer tea, or robes. Those would be a nice touch. Slippers would be an added plus. read more

Completely unprofessional, terrible service. They offer cheap massages on Groupon so I figured why not give them a shot. I bought a voucher to send my boyfriend for a surprise massage as he's never had one. While they have online appointment scheduling, with a Groupon you have to call and talk to their incompetent front desk to schedule. They virtually never answer the phone, so you'll leave a message and they'll call back to set it up. So, I scheduled the appointment for 9am on a Saturday making it clear this was a special occasion. My boyfriend was thrilled by the surprise, got up early, and arrived 5 minutes, as requested. Lo and behold the front desk had no record of the appointment, the name, phone number or email address and said see you later. After an irate phone call, they still haven't figured it out. I've seen him four or five times, and each time, he remembers the areas of my body that need extra work and always makes me feel better. I was recommended to this place by my bff. So I thought I'd tr it out. Made an appointment and got admitted with a friend and we got our massages in a couples room. It was one lady for my friend and I had a guy that did our deep tissue massages. When we arrived at the place in Greenlake the parking was very limited and small. You can opt for street parking but it can be hard at times finding street parking especially it is located in the heart of Greenlake area. When you get inside you are greeted by the smiling faces staff. They offer you water and seated down till your name was called out. Did not have to wait too long. When my friend and I got to the room, the 2 therapists asked a couple of questions to our preferred massage. We got down to business. The room was dimly lit, music was playing in the background. As soon as they started massaging us, they were talking to us. I thought this was supposed to be a quiet, relaxing, soothing massage without any talks but apparently it wasn't. My relaxation died. It didn't feel good as I thought it would be. Although my therapist hit some good spots where I had trouble on my back. I really loved this place. At first I had trouble finding it since it's located under what looks to be an apartment building. When I walked inside though I was impressed. It was bigger than it appeared, and the atmosphere was very relaxing. Front desk staff were friendly and helpful. My massage with Erik was amazing. He checked in to see how the pressure was, and I was practically falling asleep. He did some work on my shoulders and back which were painful and stiff. And OF COURSE the 3 reserved spots were taken. :-S (one star removed for parking issues) I was greeted and met with the therapist promptly. Christopher's style is lighter than what I would expect for a firm swedish. However unlike the other reviewer, I didn't find this to be a bad thing. I would say it was strange not to have the breath knocked out of me (it's a good pain I tell myself). But I found that his lighter yet firm technique was actually pretty effective and I left just as relaxed as other kick-my-butt-pain-is-good sessions. I had purchased a yelp check in deal 80 min for $59 - of course, 80 min wasn't available. Only 30 minutes and since I was same day there were no cancellations without a charge that was more than the 30 minute service. The receptionist then calls back and is able to book me for 50 minutes are tries to charge me more than the 80 min massage. Finally we get the booking squared away. My massage therapist was late to bring me in the room and finished early. Not only that but she never check on pressure and ignored the focus areas I mentioned where I carry most of my stress. I regularly go see Maria at Elements Massage at Greenlake. She's an ace, and I highly recommend her. I always leave with a (drowsy) smile, whether I request a full-body deep-tissue massage or need work on a specific problem area -- including the occasional injury. I would give Elements 5 stars except that they have messed up my automatic credit card payments on more than one occasion. The location is amongst a busy street and the second I parked in the only lot around (elements massage), the desk assistant stares me down with complete disgust. I then get out of my car, walk my daughters across the street to the nail salon and this lady walks outside to write down my license plate number to then call a towing company. Whoever this employee was waited until I had safely walked my kids across the street to call a towing company which then led me to walk them all the way back and move my car. Little did this employee know I was dropping my daughters off to get their nails done so I could go to my massage. What an awesome massage. I literally in the spur of the moment searched for a place with walk-in appointments on Saturday and came across Elements. I called and they had an opening in 40 minutes so I grabbed dinner at PCC and headed over. I was able to use the Yelp deal for 80 minutes instead of 50 and LOVED it. Vicki was so helpful, listened really intently to all I was saying about my shoulder hurting and checked in with me all throughout the massage to make sure I was doing okay. I hate talking during massages but her doing this was so nice and it was perfectly quick and so caring. I think I'm going to go back again, seriously. I felt so good for days afterwards. Whatever Vicki did was perfect and I think I've found a new favorite place. Also the parking spot out front was super convenient. I have a big SUV though and I'm not sure I would have been able to have gotten out had there been anyone parked next to me. I did the 80 minute massage with John and he was just so great! I got my massage just before Christmas---I wanted to make sure I wasn't carrying the stress of work and school into my short vacation. I am just so thankful they were able to fit me in. John was an absolute jewel and I came out of my massage feeling like melted chocolate. I asked for deep, concentrated focus on my upper back and shoulders. He listened, but didn't forget to spend a little time on the other parts of my body as well. I typically get a massage every month or two because I find them very relaxing and I work at a computer all day so my neck and shoulders are often tight. I had been going to a place that was walking distance from where I used to live in Cap Hill, but just recently moved to Green Lake and wanted to find a new place that I could walk to from my new apartment. So this was my first time at Elements but I will be back! I'll review the amenities first and then my massage therapist, Jeannie. The place where I used to get massages is a bit nicer, but also more expensive so maybe that's why. One thing that impressed me was the heated massage table (I don't think the ones at my old place were heated), on the other hand, there was a small fan in the room, which I found to be slightly loud and distracting. My masseuse asked me if I wanted it on and if the temperature was good, so I think it's pretty customizable and you could adjust it to your desired temp, but I found it to be perfect how it was already set. The sheets on the table were substantially less soft than the ones at my old place, but maybe I was just spoiled before! The room was pretty barebones, just white walls and a table in the middle. But that doesn't really matter- your eyes are closed the whole time anyway! Some aromatherapy would have been nice, but the mint at the end of the massage was a nice touch. As far as Jeannie, she was pretty great and really receptive to the minimal feedback I gave her. She takes a very technical approach to massaging, a lot of repetitive motions but she hits every every and every muscle group. I can tell just by the way she massages that she's very knowledgable. I'm used to massages that are a bit more artistic and creative, where the transitions between movements are really thoughtful, but the technical approach that Jeannie takes was a nice change of pace. In particular, I've never had anyone focus on my neck so well. She spent about 20 minutes on it while I was on my stomach and it felt absolutely incredible! Then I mentioned that to her when I flipped over and she spent about another 20 mins on it while I was on my back (it was an 80 min massage). I don't know if she would have spent that much time on it anyway, or if she just did it because I told her how great it felt, but it was out of this world! I would take an entire 80 minutes of just Jeannie's neck massage :) Another nice thing that she did was during the foot massage, she massaged them while they still had a thin sheet over them. I always hate how after a massage, your feet are so oily and they slip around in your shoes for the rest of the day, so she must have done it to prevent that. She never put massage oil on my feet, which was a nice touch. Another small, nice touch was when I flipped over, she immediately asked if I'd like a tissue. I think it's common for your nose to get stuffy while laying on your stomach, and I've occasionally had to ask for one at this point during other massages while is always kind of awkward. I was sure that I had made an appointment for this time, and when she looked me up she found that the appointment had been cancelled "on their end." I asked if she knew why but all she could say is that the "system" cancelled the appointment. But she could offer no explanation as to why. I would best describe this place with the words, calming and accommodating. I had changed my appointment God knows how many times and the receptionists on the other end were so kind with my constant changes. When I finally arrived for my appointment, I noticed a ton of construction happening right next door and was a little concerned, however, I delighted to find the inside completely silent and serene. I was booked with a higher level therapist to tend to my shoulders and couldn't have been happier with her attentiveness to the area rather than just tackling the area for 10 minutes and then moving onward elsewhere. Elements is more of a massage churn and burn business than any other massage spa that I have been to (and I've been to nearly a dozen in Seattle over the years). While superficially fine the massage rooms lack any real character or those new agey aspects I like (quiet music, aromatherapy candles, artwork of some sort...). The therapist was fine, she communicated well and did a solid job. If I were to review her alone I'd go 4 stars. If you are in a pinch and NEED some running this place will be fine. If you want the whole emotional or spiritual relaxation that comes with a quality massage find a spa to go to. read more

Initially I said to myself at first glance, are you kidding me? She's so tiny? After the duration of that very first session, I took my foot out of my mouth when she closed the door to allow me to get dressed before I opened it up to be offered a bottled water. :-) All jokes aside, I'm a pretty big man and I have never found a professional who has been able to do-away with all of the knots I've had for 30 years. Having had a sub-par massage at the Holman Road Elements, I was pleasantly surprised by my experience at this location. John D. did a great job during my 80 minute massage -- he found spots that I didn't even know were sore and worked on them. Only downside was that I asked him to work on my left hip specifically, and he didn't spend very much time on it. However, he did a fantastic job when he did work on it. John is a great masseuse. Only other downsides are limited parking and that this location is difficult to find. It's tucked away, and there's an old car in a garage literally right next to the entrance. I wondered if I was at the right place until I walked inside. Plan to arrive 10 minutes early because the parking garage a couple blocks away fills up fast, and if you haven't been to this location before, you'll probably get lost! read more

I was looking forward to my massage and intentionally booked 90 minutes because 60 is never long enough and it was birthday and I wanted to relax and unwind. Very disappointed to see that I only received a 70ish minute massage and paid full price for 90 minutes plus tip. My masseuse left about 15 minutes early without informing the the massage was over. He left the room a little before 2pm and said something but it was inaudible. I thought maybe he needed to go to the restroom but after 10 minutes passed and he didn't return I realized he wasn't coming back. I got dressed and asked the receptionist if I booked the 90 minute or 60 minute and she verified it was 90 minutes. I asked if they start late and end early and she said the first 5 minutes the client speaks with the masseuse about treatment and undresses and the last 5 minutes is to get dressed and the masseuse walks them out. I didn't say anything and decided to pay and leave. Staff was friendly which is why they receive 2 stars and not 1. Overall would not recommend this place and not going back. read more

BEWARE!! I called to schedule an appointment at their introductory special price that I saw on their window driving by. I was told I needed to provide my card number in case there was a cancellation which I understand, and is common with most places these days. I was scheduling myself for a 90 minute massage for $99. The next day I woke up, I had a terrible cold and called them right away to see if I could reschedule. I was told that it was no problem, I would not be charged a cancellation fee and that there was plenty of time to reschedule the appointment so I could just call them another day when I was feeling better. The next day I checked my bank account, I saw that not only was $99 charge to my account, but TWO SEPARATE gratuity tips! I was charged Way more than I ever intended on spending there in the first place, and I NEVER RECEIVED A MASSAGE! No one got back to me, so I had to go in myself while still feeling sick and ask to speak with a manager. She apologized for not getting back to me as she was well aware of the situation and said it was simply her fault she just forgot to get back to me. She told me that I had been refunded however she cannot control how soon the funds go back into my accounts. The bank verified to me on their end that no refund was made yet. It's a shame I cannot even judge Elements for their spa atmosphere or massage practitioners because their customer service is so horrible that I didn't even get that far. Experiences like the one I had here are the reason I don't pay to get massages very often. First off, I had purchased a groupon to this place on a Thursday and called the front desk to book an appointment the very next morning for a nice 80 minute prenatal massage, and after speaking with the receptionist and confirming my appointment 18 hours later I received a confirmation email minutes later with the wrong date and time for my appointment, which of course I had to call back and speak to someone completely different and get my the right time and date booked. Not a massive waste of time but a minor annoyance that should have clued me in on what was to come. I show up for my 9:30 am appointment at 9:15 as instructed since I was a new client, but because it took me 10 extra minutes to call the front desk and figure out where their client parking is (2 blocks away) I walked in at 9:25. I sat there until 9:40 when I had to use the bathroom (duty calls at 6 months pregnant) and didn't meet my lady and get into my room and situated until 9:50, which made me nervous because we were starting 20 minutes late and I was expecting a 80 minute massage. I was greeted by my lady with probably the two things you should never say to a pregnant person that you don't know: "oh you look ready to pop! Did you swallow a beach ball?" Followed by some baby talk directed at my stomach. Great thanks for making me feel retarded and enormous, lady. I know that people mean well when they say things like this (not sure why) but as a reminder, I am paying this person to make me feel good, not large and insecure. Fine, clothes off and on the table at 9:50am. I explained to her how my back and neck are keeping me from having a good night's sleep, along with the regular pregnancy ailments of swollen feet and hands. She started rubbing my neck straight away, which felt pretty blissful I have to say. Oh man I was so excited to have my back rubbed next cause pregnancy is all sorts of effed up pain. Except that back rub never came. The next 60 minutes comprised of entirely my neck and shoulders and some light arm rubbing, because this woman wouldnt. Stop. Talking. With. Her. Hands. She talked about everything under the sun from children dying of leukemia (she was rowing for leukemia, which I applaud her for except for the fact she solicited me to donate money and come watch her, so great now I feel like an ass cause I don't want to give money to kids with leukemia I just want my stinking massage) to mass genocide committed by Al Quaida in Kenya (her family is there, which made me feel more of an ass because while I hope they are okay...I just wanted my back rubbed) to how I should stick my baby on the toilet when he is 3 months old because it will teach him how to go to the potty at an early age (what?!?). I did the thing where I kept my eyes closed the entire time as a hint that I didn't want to talk, but this chick wasn't biting. Other weirdness that happened was she was lightly rubbing my arm and all of a sudden she started dry heaving and bending over towards the floor like she was vomiting. Alarmed, I kept asking her if she was okay and if she needed anything. Her response: "oh I just touched a spot on you and got some of your energy transferred to me and made me sick and want to throw up!" Oh. My. GOD. She also guided me on some strange visuals, the most memorable one was "picture that there's a piano on your chest." I cannot make this up. During this whole circus massage she had stayed in my shoulder and neck region, and I finally requested at 10:40 that she do my back. Oh yes, she will but first my legs. 10 minutes of that and more crazy talk and I requested again, back please. This is what happened, she said "okay but you're going to get the Reader's Digest version of a back massage" rubbed my back for 2 minutes and exclaimed "oooohhh your back is no good honey bunny!" And abruptly ended my session at 60 minutes. That's it, basically a fuck your awful back , my next client is here. I still tipped her though, pregnancy has turned me into a sucker. I walked out of this establishment beyond perplexed because I had no idea what had just happened to me. I almost didn't even write this review because who would believe it had been this bad. But after another week of back pain i felt compelled to post this since it will be a while until i can muster up time and money that i dont mind throwing away. To be fair to the lady, she was a nice person and I wouldn't have minded her oddities had I not been paying for a service where those oddities got in the way of my experience. That aside though, I still got ripped off of a full 20 minutes of massage time even though I showed up early. I would advise if you come here at all, and I wouldn't, don't pay anything close to full price because you may or may not get the service you are coming in for. See if they have any mute massage therapists, and keep your eyes on the cloc read more
