I just walked on the outskirts of this enormous park. On my way to the New Orleans Museum of Art, I walked on the sidewalk. I really enjoyed the large, old canopy of trees that line both sides of the sidewalk. On my way to and from the museum, I saw so many varieties of birds and groups of squirrels. The squirrels were frolicking and playing, chasing one another. The ducks were just hanging out, but there were other varieties of birds that were searching for and dining on earthworms, after the rain had brought them up to the surface. Lots of space and green grass. It's a beautiful park to visit and enjoy nature. No need to drive. You can take the trolly here, as I did.

It's a fantastic reminder that New Orleans has a quieter side beyond the busy streets and nightlife. The park is home to the beautiful Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden, the New Orleans Museum of Art, and even the nostalgic Carousel Gardens Amusement Park, so you can easily spend half a day exploring without running out of things to see. The blend of natural beauty, historic architecture, and cultural attractions gives the park a lot of character. If you have a few extra hours during your trip, City Park is definitely worth a visit. It's a beautiful space that's easy to enjoy at your own pace and offers something for just about everyone.

And the other side (uptown) has a jungle gym for the kiddies and some open area. Nicely there is a short fence on the Napoleon side of the park with the playground, but NOT on the Magazine side so definitely keep an eye on runaway kids. These parks are bit better maintained than Samuel Square and don't seem to be as full of dogpoop. So that's nice. Now that the Napoleon construction is almost completed perhaps they will be more usable and less dusty.

Anyway, I've been wanting to check it out since about 2011 when I heard the jaw-dropping words "indoor batting cages." What could be better than an indoor place to play your favorite sports during our hot and humid summers? Of course, it would be even better if I had come when I could actually PLAY one of these sports; unfortunately, my injured wrist won't be permitting that anytime soon. Besides batting cages they have a baseball diamond, basketball courts, an indoor volleyball court, free weights, and a concession stand just to name a few things. From what I can see, it looks like they have some weight machines on the second floor. I'm guessing this might come with one of their fitness packages. Big Easy Sportsplex is definitely one of New Orleans' hidden gems. It's a great play to play indoors with a very fair price that won't break the bank. Thank you to the person who decided to create this great place! I can't wait to come enjoy it when my wrist is healed. In the meantime, I'll sit back, drink my icee, and watch my friends. They get burned on equipment that's sitting in the direct sunlight. The ground is some type of rubber cushion I'm assuming to soften the falls. Furthermore, this playground shoulder to shoulder with the adult Greenway Fitness Cemter. Even from The Fitness Center one can properly supervise their tot(s). Finally, There are 5-four person benches facing the playing ground without obstruction to supervise your busy bees. A table that can be used for a quick bite is located in the center. I was very surprised to see two garbage cans properly serviced.

It includes a full size basketball court, kids play area with monkey bars, and a decent sized grass area for soccer, football, thunder dome or other activities. Occasional afternoon practices take place here but tend to clear out before dusk. Unfortunately there are not any lights for night time practice or events. Only nearby lights are on the Lafitte Greenway and do not extend to the grass area next to the pathway. Super close the French Quarter RV Park. There are some beautiful large old oak trees in the park that offer shade from that intense summer sun. About three blocks away sits the Lemann Pool which can help you cool off even more(if it's open). I've found the hours of operation to be limited despite the many months of stagnant summer heat. Dog friendly space for you and your pup to play. No water hazards to worry about them getting into. Just watch traffic on Claiborne and clean up after your pet.

It has a really nice playground and play area for kids and a lot of nice greenery. It's not the biggest park, but it's really nice for what it is. There is a good number of different covered areas that can be used for picnics as well as a large baseball field. There is also a gazebo that can be rented for parties and other gatherings. Recently the park added a huge recreation center that contains a full size basketball court complete with retractable bleachers. This was built in order to encourage kids in Gretna and surrounding areas to play sports and stay involved in their community. There is also a huge meeting space that can be rented for different events or meetings.
