Built in 1906, most of the original windows were over 100 years old--well past due for an upgrade. What could have been a stressful and complicated project turned out to be a smooth and even enjoyable experience, thanks to Tim, Bob, Ryan, and the rest of the crew. They showed up when they said they would, completed the job on time, and consistently met (or exceeded) my very high quality expectations. This wasn't an easy job, but they handled it with skill, professionalism, and great attitudes. On top of that, their pricing was competitive--and in my case, they delivered significantly more value than other bids I received. Hershberger Construction has done roofing for several of our members in the recent past so Mosie…read moreand crew were a top choice when securing a roofer for the National Register historic home that serves as headquarters for our organization. Mosie gave a careful assessment and estimate of the project beforehand. As his crew worked on the roof, they uncovered problems the previous roofer had glossed over or just plain ignored which had caused damage to the roof. Mosie immediately informed us of the damage and the steps needed to address the problem areas, he and his crew corrected those issues, and the roof is now finished and looking great both functionally and aesthetically. Hershberger Construction was the perfect choice for reroofing our historic home as they use the latest 21st century products and techniques, but are aware of the historic way of doing things, so the roofing was done according to National Register standards. Mosie and his crew are incredibly hard-working, conscientious, and will give full value to the dollars spent on your project. Although the roofing went over estimate due to the problems uncovered, (plus a derecho, and several hurricanes that drove up the price of materials), Mosie was careful about informing us of the problems which needed to be addressed and materials price changes as they occurred, and was very fair about what he charged. I left a message on a very hot day 4th of July day. Expecting a call back in a few days, but I got one in a few hours. It was 4th of July and Johnson's said they would be at my place the following Monday, 7 July. At 10 o'clock I got a call saying they would be at my place in the early afternoon. At 1:30 I got a call again. The Tech, and former owner showed up. Mr. Johnson went right to business, evaluated my Geo system, and then the air handler. Both were working but wouldn't' t shut off. He tested out the thermostat and then asked when if I could recollect when exactly the problem began. We determined that a previous technician improperly wired my air handler, blowing a sending unit. The thermostat was wired wrong as well. Mr. Johnson made the corrections, replaced the sending unit , and all is well. I just got the bill, Considering a 100 mile round trip service call and 1.5 hours of corrective actions, plus a part... I was pleasantly surprised. I will use this company in the future and recommend others as well.

We had an estimate from Johnsons in 2010 for an in-floor and forced air GeoThermal system. In 2013…read morewe finally had the system installed after securing the necessary financing. In an email Steve Johnson said he reviewed my 2010 estimate and could still do it. Had the system installed art a cost of over $40,000. The system never met their energy estimates and our electric bill shot to over $800 the next two months. We contacted Johnson's and all they had to say was what was your natural gas before this? Regardless, at this price the amount was way over what they had in their 'estimate'. The in-floor heat never seemed to work either and was never warm. Last year we decided to sell our home but wanted to get the in-floor heat fixed. Much to our surprise the people that looked at our system said the in-floor heat was not connected properly and would not heat high enough to work. Furthermore the system was a 'priority' system and the air and in-floor heat would never run together, only one would run at a single time. That meant the basement would practically NEVER get heat as the main floor forced air would take precedent. Additionally,, we found that the main floor in-floor heat had been set so it did not recognize any zones and just ran if heat was required. We asked Johnson's about this and they said (falsely) that we told them we wanted to turn off the in-floor heat to the main floor and only use forced air. In our 2010 estimate they said their system would provide in-floor heat to the main floor and basement, which we wanted. In their 2013 estimate they said it would provide in-floor heat to the basement only. We missed this type-o, but both estimates listed the same equipment. So apparently in 2010 the same equipment could provide in-floor heat to both the main floor and basement but in 2013 it could only provide heat to the basement??!! It didn't matter as the forced-air would run most of the time in the winter and the basement would rarely get heat anyways. Ultimately Johnson's design was inadequate, poorly implemented, and did not work as advertised. Any attempts to have them look at the system cost us hundreds with them only saying the system worked within parameters, and then no follow up. Buyer beware. They may install some systems fine, but their support and customer service is horrible. I have documentation to back all of this up and I'm pursuing legal actions, although it may be up for a tough battle with their business in Iowa and me in Minnesota. If you are in Minnesota, I strongly recommend you see another company based in Minnesota.
