At the time she was mentally as sharp as ever and the caregivers only needed to make her breakfast or dinner and to do grocery shopping and some cleaning. By the last few months of her life, my mother needed someone with her 24 hours a day. Whether it was for only a few hours a day or for 24 hours a day, Visiting Angels was able to provide caregivers that were competent and caring. Some even became my mother's dear friends. Throughout the years that Visiting Angels was helping my mother, our account manager, Joan, scheduled the caregivers, filled in when a caregiver was unavailable, did the shopping - not only for groceries but from Amazon as well, cooked and kept the refrigerator and freezer stocked with really good meals and generally looked out for my mother's safety and best interests. Jenny scented in Jimmy Choo perfume at $150 a bottle, but still needs training in customer service, listening skills and most importantly mindfulness. Had this awful habit of picking something up and putting it down and then forgetting where it was and spent 30 minutes of my time, looking for something things that she put down because she wasn't paying attention. Then out of frustration questioned me on why I needed this item. I found her to be wasteful. Some of the other ladies were respectful and delightful. I just can't think of their names at this moment. And then of course my favorite. KIARA! OMG, what a GEM! Always willing to do whatever I asked. Genuinely happy to come back. We formed a real kinship. She is a registered nurse and I believe The higher education made the difference in this scenario. Through her training to become a nurse she taught me a little tips and tricks that I can use for myself, things that I will treasure forever. FIRSTLIGHT, gives the impression that they'd like to be better than the competitors, and I do believe that they are and that their effort to unite the caregivers with an online training is wise. Tried to see if I would travel to Gloucester-1.5 hours from my home! It was very unprofessional & disorganized. She told me I had to go to the Newton office next week to re-do the interview. She tried to email & have me scan a barcode to apply right from my phone instead of sitting me at an office computer. When I asked for the WiFi, i saw that it was for a rented space, not for connected care. Saw many red flags from the onset of contact. The office had no sign of permanence, nor did I get the feeling they are legit. If they are, they churn/burn through caregivers. Stay away.
