I don't think I've ever called it Christie Pits Park, which is its formal name. At the turn of the 20th century, the land that is now Christie Pits was actively excavated as a massive quarry for sand, gravel, and clay to build Toronto's early roads. Once these resources were depleted, the quarry (the pit) was filled to become a park. It used to be called Willowvale Park. Locals back then called it Christie Pits, which became the official name of this park. I learned about the Christie Pit riot in grade 9 history class. It happened in 1933 and was roughly a six-hour race riot happening around the Great Depression, and the rise of Adolf Hitler in Germany and anti-semitism. This park is large. It's bordered by Bloor Street West to the south, the CP rail line to the north, Christie Street to the west, and Ossington Avenue to the east. Christie Street, and ultimately this pit, was named after William Christie, a co-founder of Mr Christie. I have a couple of fond memories of this park. I took a Cantonese class in the summer after my grade 10 year was over. This class was at Kent Senior Public School (rest in school peace) at Dufferin and Bloor. I had a friend who lived on Christie Street. After school, we'd walk over to her house to hang out, cutting through this park to get there. In grade 12, I was in my high school's concert marching band. We were a part of Toronto's Eaton's (a department store that no longer exists) Santa Claus Parade. We all met at our high school on a Sunday. We got a chartered bus ride to Christie Pits where we were dropped off. It was the starting point of the parade. I frankly don't recall where the end point of the parade was. I do remember my clarinet working when it wasn't windy while marching and was silent when I tried playing it in a headwind during the parade! I passed by this park last Wednesday. It was nice that traffic along Bloor Street West was busy. I was waiting for traffic to move and ended up looking at this park fondly. The most notable features of this park is that it has three baseball diamonds and four pools. It also has a ton of majestic trees and greenery, which provides a lot of beauty to this area. In the summertime, this park hosts the Christie Pits Film Festival, which is free as part of the Toronto Outdoor Picture Show. There are also local art events that I'd like to check out when summer is finally here. It's a nice park in a cool part of Toronto. (204)

It is a popular park in Markham with these amenities: - Picnic tables - Playgrounds (2) - Mini soccer fields (4) - Basketball court - Tennis courts / Pickleball (2) - Splash pad I like the trees in this park. They are lovely, especially to seek shade when it's hot! I like dropping by to sit, relax, and enjoy a nature break. It's a nice change of pace. The city of Markham has plans to improve this park. Some of the upcoming additions include the following: - A mini artificial turf soccer pitch - A synthetic ice rink - A multi-purpose sports court - Eighty additional parking spots I'm not sure when the completion date will be. Popular East Markham Park !!!…read more We have been going to Wismer Park for years. I remember when I lived in the Cornell/Greensboro neighbourhoods this is the park I would take my kids to when they younger. Wismer Park has many features that can be enjoyed by families and people of all ages. On the outskirts of the park you'll find extensive stretches of grass, great for frisbee, or letting your kids run around. You will also find Tennis courts, soccer fields, two playgrounds, one for toddlers and one for bigger kids and a very good size woodlot with a few kilometres of walking paths. We love to go there in the spring so we can enjoy our Provincial Flower the Trillium. The woodlot is full of them in late spring, and I'm sure many people go there in spring to see the Trilliums as well. Wismer Park is just one of Markham's parks but a favourite for East Markham's residents. I'm sure you will enjoy it too.

It would be even more beautiful to walk through when it gets warmer. The garden is named in memory of Alex Wilson, a landscape designer. During the warmer months, the parkette is planted with native plant species that add to our city's biodiversity. It may not look like much now but I've seen pictures during summer and I'm looking forward to walk by again on my way to admiring the art at graffiti alley. Always appreciate a little bit of greenery in the busy city.

And next to the splash pad there are washrooms just makes it easier to change. They have divided the swings into 2 sections toddler and pre schoolers which is clever, so as a parent I was not scared of someone stumbling over my kid. Lol The beach is not good for the dip, although i have seen people going in the water. Otherwise it is a huge park for a group outing. The only challenge is parking on the weekends.

I go there mostly for the fantastic dog park. It is large and fully fenced, with a lovely view and a nice woodchip ground cover. Perhaps because it's a little bit further from the dense residential area, the dog park has not been too busy on the three occasions that I've visited it. With lots of shade and picnic benches, it is almost perfect. The only thing standing in the way of a 5-star rating is the lack of a water fountain. There's one near the bathrooms, not far from the dog park, but it does not have a dog fountain at the base.

Three hours later, I walked back to my car, but took some time to check out this playground. It has a lot of tall, majestic trees and beautiful flowers. I admired the aromatic aster and had to stop to take a photo. So pretty! The tall trees make me think that this playground has been established for years. However, the climbing structures and splash pads indicate that this park has had a facelift recently. I liked seeing swings, both traditional and saucer-shaped. It's not a playground if there aren't any swings in my books. There was also a spinning rope pyramid, which looked challenging to me, let alone kids. This playground also has a splash pad. It looks like it has a cascading water feature to it, which would be great to cool off on hot summer days. This playground has a drinking fountain and a bottle-filling station. Whether you have a water bottle with you or not, you can stay hydrated after playing till your heart's content. The playground occupies at least half the park, which is unique and new to me. I grew up with Kew Gardens as my go-to park, which is huge. The playground at Kew Gardens occupies maybe an eight of the park. I liked checking out this playground. It's nice. I'm sure that it's gorgeous with the autumn leaves changing colour right now. (419)

With all the fall leaves partially on the trees and partially on the ground, it makes the park very picturesque. The large playground has a metal fence surrounding it to keep children in. It seems the playground is meant for children aged 2 to 10. Apparently it was totally renovated in 2018 so it still looks fresh. Dogs are not allowed in the playground. The main thing is that so many children are having fun and running around. They would be the main critics. Some of the children comes from a local Montessori school after classes end. The playground has swings (for different ages), two slides, a merry-go-round, and plenty of climbing structures. There are some (Green P) street parking along King St. There are no onsite washrooms.
