In Belgium - the land of chocolate - it's not hard to find something delicious, and the options are endless. But after living there for over five years, Elisabeth became my go-to place. Every time I was traveling somewhere, I'd stop by to buy their chocolates by weight. Now, chocolates sold by weight might not look flashy - no fancy boxes or ribbons - but the quality is absolutely top-tier. To this day, I haven't found anything that compares. If I remember correctly (and the owners can correct me), they don't make the chocolate themselves but carefully select pieces from different chocolatiers. Food: Some of the better chocolate I had in Belgium, although not as creamy or velvety as other chocolate I've tried. I tried their raspberry and basil ganache and surprisingly I enjoyed the basil better than the raspberry one as you could taste more of the chocolate and was not that overpowering. When in Belgium, you think of Belgium chocolate and we were able to find a gem among gems in Grand Place but come to find out that there are many locations. I'm talking about Elisabeth's Chocolates and the Notenbrokken fondant chocolate and the Pralines are some of the best dark chocolates I've ever had. The first time I experienced Elisabeth's chocolate was 4 years ago on my first trip to Belgium and I loved it so much that I had my brother in law bring me back from Belgium when he visited the United States. This time around being fortunate enough to come back to Belgium, Elisabeth's Chocolates was one of the first places to visit and the taste, quality and customer experience hasn't changed. I will be in Europe for another 3 weeks so I'll place my order and have my favorites delivered. Elisabeth Chocolate is a small boutique shop but you can't go wrong with many of their choices and they let you sample anything you'd like before making a purchase. Meringues the size of your head. I got quite a bit from Elisabeth. Even if it wasn't for me... I wish it was, but I hope the gifts were enjoyable to the people who got them. I certainly enjoyed what little chocolate and speculoos I bought from the shop. First day in Brussels and met with meringues so gorgeous and beautiful that it may be one of my only regrets of the trip--- not having tried a single Elisabeth meringue. They knew what they were doing with that jar full of treats. Now that I'm home, I see large meringues in bakeries, but they are in no way comparable. Alas... perhaps Everard t'Serclaes will bless me with a return to Brussels in my future. Prices at Elisabeth are a little more reasonable than some shops in the area. Honey ginger bread went for €6 for a full loaf. Chocolate was still pretty expensive but still a contender with the other chocolatiers in the neighborhood. I also really enjoyed the speculoos. It has it's own flavor and theirs was a very hearty little biscuit. Elisabeth sweets certainly heightens the fancy-meter for anyone's tea time. Something I will sorely miss. read more

While I preferred to buy my chocolate in bulk at Leonidas, I bought curated chocolate gifts for friends and family at Elisabeth because they were handcrafted so well. There are plenty of samples in the store and I highly recommend buying the mini waffles dripped in chocolate. I also bought a circular box of chocolates in delicate flower shapes. The packaging is very smart and makes it easy to travel with these chocolates. Prices are not cheap but the quality of the chocolates is very high. read more

I arrived in Brussels ready to try as much chocolate as humanly possible, and on this mission I came up with a list of chocolatiers who were something special, even in Belgium, and Elisabeth definitely makes that list. I only tried the mello-choc (I believe they are called that?) chocolates, but they were really delicious and you could tell they were made with skill and love. A mello-choc is basically a chocolate-coated marshmallow, but simple as it sounds, it tastes amazing. If I am ever in Brussels again, I am definitely going back for that and to try more. While walking towards the Grand Place I noticed a lot of chocolate shops and decided to go in here to see their offerings. The shop is smaller compared to others in the area. I was so happy to see that they carried chocolate in collaboration with Frédéric Blondeel as I had heard so much about him but wasn't able to go to his store. I bought the milk chocolate with almonds and it is sweeter than I like. I also bought 45 % cocoa which seems promising. read more

The only complaint I have about this place is I didn't buy enough. When you talk about great chocolates you have to mention this place. The samples got me instantly hooked. Waking Brussels for 2 days and avoiding all cookie cutter chocolate shops we happens to walk into this one. The chocolates are out of this world good and the nougats was the best I ever had. My purchase didn't last long afterwards and when I come back to Brussels this will be top of my list of places to revisit. Gonna be hard to eat American chocolate after this places. read more

BEST CHOCOLATE EVER!!! We were only in Brussels for one day. As luck would have it, we found Elizabeth Chocoatier! We walked by a few chocolatiers, but Elizabeth Chocolatier got us! The window display of the chocolate bark in dark, milk and white was amazing. The service person was very helpful. We bought milk and dark chcolate bars with the dried fruit and nuts and they were so creamy and just the right sweetness. Cute boutique store with four locations all around the same area. There are two separate storefronts, one selling chocolates and another meringues. The chocolates here are delicately crafted and each have very distinct and well balanced flavors. As I went about tasting and picking up chocolates from various shops, I walked by Elisabeth and decided to take a look. It's a small shop, a bit crowded, but with good reasons why. Though not as fancy looking as some of the other favorites of mine, don't just a book by its cover - its chocolate and candies (especially the white gooey fluffy candies with nuts and berries and all sorts of goodies mixed in) are absolutely delicious and top notch.
