Madison Dandoy is a good first stop for local waffles, as they serve pretty standard Brussels and liege waffles. Takeaway and sit-down cafe options are both available, with the takeaway option being cheaper of course. They give an option to create your own waffle toppings. I like fruit and chocolate (this is Belgium!) on my waffles, so my favorite topping combo is strawberries and chocolate ganache. I don't even need whipped cream or ice cream. The speculoos topping is too sweet, although the speculoos ice cream is interesting. Note: The sit-down cafe is upstairs, yet the waffles are still made downstairs in the takeaway area, and then brought upstairs.
This is really sweet -- I wish they had more specials that weren't so overwhelming so we could really appreciate the waffle. This is a tourist attraction so it has its moments of busy crowds. They are fairly quick as they only serve waffles. There is an upstairs at the restaurant as well for seating and fee options to eat outside but I find that most people order for takeaway.
If you're looking for a genuine Belgian waffle, look no further. Maison Dandoy makes outstandingly yummy waffles - light, crisp, with just the right amount of chew to them! This location right in Brussels is easy to access by foot. There's a downstairs where you enter and can purchase, or pickup, orders to take away. Great upstairs to dine in. If they have you a menu in French and don't understand it, just ask for an English menu. They have them. Our server was very friendly and it didn't take long for food to come out. They have two different styles of waffles here. You can customize them however you want or select a preset array of toppings. I opted for the Dansaert's delight and it was like nothing I've ever had before in America. It was so yummy and fun to eat! I had an iced coffee with it and it comes premixed with milk. It tasted more like milk with a splash of coffee. Regardless, it complemented my waffle. I highly recommend this place. Very fun to get your waffle fix here!
Another regional item that I wanted to try while I was in Brussels was Belgian Waffles (no way I was going to leave without trying that). After doing some searching, we were recommended to try Maison Dandoy which was in a cafe not too far from us. There wasn't too much of a wait to order the waffles, but we had to take it to-go since if you wanted to sit inside there was a separate line. We got a classic Belgian waffle with chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream on top. I have to say, this is definitely the best Belgian waffle that I've had so far. It was really crispy, but still light and fluffy at the same time so I understand why it's one of the items the country is known for. It comes out hot, so it pairs well with the vanilla ice cream. If you're in Brussels be sure to check this place out!
OKAYYYYY I get the hype!!!!! Belgian waffles are truly unlike any waffle I've had before--okay well the liege waffle is SIMILAR TO THE CROFFLE! Let me explain. There's the Brussels waffle which is rectangular and it's crispy on the outside and fluffy, melt in your mouth on the inside. Had it with dark chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream and it was the perfect combo. As for the liege waffle, it was firmer and crunchy on the outside and all the way through. Had a great caramelized flavor and had it with speculoos ice cream, cookies and spread. Service inside was nice as well, got to sample some cookies with no pressure to buy. I of course did buy because how could I not get speculoos in Belgium??? Gotta say they are wildly expensive for a pack but when on vacation everyone feels rich.
Very crowded, the line was out the door and down the street the entire time I was here. But the waffle was worth the wait. I also tried another location in Les Galaries Royales, but this one at Grand Palace was the best. I waited in line, but it was fairly quick to get a seat for a small party. I sat upstairs and enjoyed the Queens Favorite- waffle with strawberries and ice cream, and a delicious hot chocolate. Definitely a must try while you're in Brussels and good to have a small break from exploring.
Pastry/waffle shop near the Grand Place. It is of a calmer ambiance than that on the Grand Place, so a good place to chill and eat. It seems popular when we passed by on a weekday afternoon, so decided to come back another day in the morning. There was no line to order. We got a liege waffle (without any topping) that was ready on a rack. It was warm and soft; perhaps too warm as the outside is not crunchy. Highly recommend.
I tried two different kinds of waffles --so good! Not too sweet, super fluffy, just really delicious. I'd definitely recommend it. There's usually a long wait at this location, but they have other spots too. You should totally check it out! Feel free to make your own, but I was too lazy to. Definitely order the tea! The white tea with elderberry was my favorite!
Waffle was fine- light, airy, crispy, not dense, not overly sweet and had a good flavor. I don't think it was worth the price personally but I am glad I was able to try it here since this is one of the most reviewed and highly rated spots. Service was fine, they do the best they can making sure each customer is served before moving on. There are two lines- one for dining in and one for takeaway which you can take and sit outside. Interior is really nice and fancy.
This is a must go to restaurant in Brussels! Very popular among the locals and tourist. Waffles were nothing like the ones in the USA. Different flavor, different texture very authentic and delicious! I recommend to go there when they open because there was a long line when we left. No reservations, just walk-ins. Above the store are two levels of Restaurant. It isn't very big so you may be waiting a while for this delicious wonderful authentic waffle house. I highly recommend! Five stars ! I had the pleasure of eating here a few times on my trip to Brussels this summer. I had the Bruxelles waffle with whipped cream, chocolate and strawberries and a cappuccino. It did not disappoint. I had to make a stop before my flight back home it was so good. A must try when you're in Brussels Belgium. It will not disappoint!
Maison Dandoy is an iconic gaufre shop in Brussels and the most famous. They do capitalize on this and a Belgian or Liege waffle is definitely more expensive; at least 3-4 euros more for a plain with a dusting of powdered sugar. Most places push the Liege Waffle, a denser, sweeter type with its pearls of sugar embedded within. At Maison Dandoy, they keep it Brussels with their Belgian/ Brussels waffle, a lighter, crispier, and less sweet type. It was 6 versus 3 euros as seen at other mom and pop shops. Supposedly they press these and serve, but the product I receive definitely was not fresh due to its lack of warmth. Overall, it was crispy and fluffy, therefore, -- in spite of the price tag -- it came with some satisfaction. The shop is a preferred one, too, as it contains multiple floors and spirals upwards with many a window seat peering out to the streets below. I did not experience a wait on a Tuesday at 16:30. A perfect place to stop in for a gaufre, sit, and utilize their clean bathrooms. I have some reservations about the freshness, but due to its renown, Maison Dandoy still does serve undeniably tasty waffles and it is a no brainer to ensure it is visited.

Waffles, beer, frites and chocolate was basically the itinerary (: we started with waffles on our first morning in Brussels and I can't think of a better place to begin than at Maison Dandoy. The ambience of this location really makes it special. I was really looking for a Hallmark movie themed experience and starting here was perfect. My waffle was scrumptious and a great start to the day. Highly recommend. read more
The reviews of Maison Dandoy are mixed and while I wanted to like it, I thought it was just okay. I enjoyed their front room the most where they sold cookies, crackers, chocolate, totes, and gifts. There's an option to pick a box or tin and fill it the cookies of your choice. The waffles themselves are something I can make at home and save the €15. I ordered the basic powdered sugar waffle, liege style. My husband ordered the Belgian style waffle which was topped with macerated strawberries and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Again, the waffle and strawberries weren't warm so it was like eating a dry stale cold waffle with cold strawberries and a scoop of ice cream. Disappointing to say the least. I'd pass on this place and stick with the street vendors where you can watch them make it in front of your eyes and served warm. read more
This is the go-to spot in Brussels for waffles. Annoying influencers around, so just ignore them. You can sit down or get take away, either way you'll have to do the line, which moved fairly fast on a mid-Sunday in spring. Lots of selections or build your own, what can go wrong with a good waffle and good toppings. Good place to get your taste of Belgian waffles, efficient service, comfortable seating both inside and out. It's in a really nice spot inside one of the glass passages, which are worth a visit just for their historical glory and beauty. read more

This was our first food to try in Belgium after a long journey the 24 hours prior, not much sleep, and tons of walking. It was delicious and made all of it worth it. I had the liege style waffle and my husband had the Brussels style. Liege is more of a pretzel almost taste and texture and Brussels was crispier and lighter. They were both wonderful, can't go wrong! Card accepted, if coming from US don't convert to USD when paying, choose euros, your bank will get better exchange rates. read more

My husband and I went to the location in the Royal Gallery for breakfast one morning; I got the Belgian waffle, which was light and fluffy, and my husband got the liege waffle, which was smaller, but more dense and crunchy with sugar bits. Both waffles were pre-ordered with nuts, strawberries and a generous portion of whipped cream. They were very tasty! I thought my waffle could have been both a little warmer and softer (felt like it had been sitting out a bit and gotten hard). Overall not the best waffle of my life but I'm glad we got to try Belgian waffles when we were there, and the ambiance was lovely - we sat outside the Galleries location in the early AM, so there was not yet much foot traffic and it was fun to people watch. read more

Can't beat having a Belgian waffle and coffee. It was delicious. I was told this is the place to have a waffle in Brussels. Service was a little slow, they seemed very busy and we sat for a little while waiting for someone to take our order. However, once we ordered, our waffles and coffee came out pretty quick. read more

This place and its waffles are the first two things that are gonna pop up in my mind whenever I think of Brussels ever again! The waffles here are a godsend, being the tastiest, yummiest, most delicious I've ever tasted (and don't even get me started on the whipped cream, my god my mouth is watering just by thinking about it). The powdered sugar on top is perfect and the crispinesss of the waffles is amazing! Expect some wait time with how popular the place is. The tea room upstairs is pretty busy and might demand some extra patience to get in. Once you enter the shop, cookies and stuff can be ordered on the left, the waffles are on the right. They have both Brussels and Liege waffles at this location, with an assortment of toppings to go along (you can't go wrong with any). 11/10 would go back again! read more

Maison dandoy is the most famous waffles place in Belgium, and for a good reason! Their brussels waffle was indeed the crispiest, lightest, and airest waffles I ever had. I ordered them plain with just powdered sugar to eat it in the most authentic way, but honestly the toppings were very tempting as well and looked great. I'm honestly not sure if it's possible to make a better brussels waffle. All their drinks come with a complimentary biscuit, and afterwards I couldn't resist sampling all of their bisuits (they're actually extremely famous for them as well). My favorites were the peanut butter cookie, the caramel cookie, and the almond speculoo. The packaged biscuits were on the very expensive side, so I recommend buying them by weight if you don't care about the presentation. read more
An incredible waffle without a doubt even if it is super touristy. It was recommended to us by our tour guide and yes it was touristy. We went at night and there was a still a short line out the door. Everyone was getting waffles even though they did sell other things. I would recommend the sweeter Liege waffle as it'll have a bit of a caramelized flavor. It comes with either brown or powdered sugar for free. Toppings cost an extra euro or two. You could just do the waffle but i got it with chocolate and it was amazing. That being said, I wish I had said no brown sugar and just done the chocolate. Belgium waffles in Belgium? Hell yea!! It's a must. Even if you don't waffle, you waffle here. You must. Mason Dandoy seems to be the place to waffle too. I visited a few of their spots. Some with over 2 hours wait on a Monday to some with pretty long Tuesday afternoon wait. But alas, I got my waffles anyway. Best part about this place: Belgium waffles in Belgium!! Amazing. Fresh, light, fluffy, comforting! So warm. Hmm hmm good. And then they have pastries! Literally a whole glass counter full. Those! Those are the best part. You won't even need the waffle but you must try. I had their sampler platter ( €8 I believe) with variety of cookies and pastries, a latte and their waffles classic with vanilla ice cream & strawberries added. And super fluffy homemade whipped cream. Easily my favorite brunch of 2020!! Well being in Brussels help. But it was the whole experience. I love the ceterville, centro! The grand palace! And the people watching. Plethora of chocolate shops sampling. And this! What's not to like. read more
