We hired Danny Vasquez of Elite Disc Jockeys to DJ our wedding this past July at Riviera Mansion in Santa Barbara. We communicated with him almost entirely thorough email as we planned our wedding from Arizona where we live. He was so easy to communicate with and answered all my questions thoroughly. I had reached out to a few DJ's prior who seemed too pushy, cheesy, expensive, and didn't demonstrate active listening as they seemed to disregard what I wanted in favor of what they generally do. Danny was the complete opposite which is why we asked him to DJ our wedding. He was patient, flexible with his pricing to accommodate our budget, and paid special attention to exactly what we wanted. Because timing an in person meeting with him beforehand would be tough with us flying in to Santa Barbara a few days before and the rehearsal dinner, venue walk through, etc. to attend, he proposed a Skype meeting to make sure we were all on the same page which was value added. He was professional, organized, and a pleasure to talk to. He also provided us a log in page where we could go in and add songs to our playlist along with a section for notes and also to write out songs not to play which made the process much easier. At our wedding he had his eye on the dance floor all night to pick up on our guests mood and chose the right song to play at the right time which is exactly what you want on your wedding when you're preoccupied with 1000 other things. Hiring a DJ for your wedding can be scary. Nobody wants a DJ that is super corny on the mic, doesn't read the crowd, and that plays the stereotypical "wedding music". Danny Vasquez is not that type of DJ. Danny is very professional and has exceptional communication, which is key. Not only did we hire him to be our DJ, we also went through his company to book a mariachi band for cocktail hour and our photo booth. This made things much easier for us since we just had one point of contact for all three things, and he delivered it all. I was very hands-on with the music I wanted played during dinner and the reception, as I had very specific songs I wanted played. This made for a very long playlist and, more importantly, a do not playlist. Danny provides his clients with a login so you can easily create and edit these lists as well as provide other pertinent wedding details. He makes sure to go over every single detail with you prior to the big day, which I appreciate. We worked with Danny for our event and he was awesome! They have an online planning form where you put what music you want to play for each thing like first dance, father/daughter dance, cake cutting, etc. You can also say which songs you for sure want played and which ones you don't. So we filled that out a couple weeks before the wedding. Then the week of the wedding, Danny called us to go over the forms. We discussed the kind of music to play at dinner and during the dance portion of the evening. We also wanted a rather long song for our first dance but didn't want to dance the whole time, so Danny sent us over a few different cuts of the song to make it shorter. He also remixed a slower song we wanted for our grand entrance. The songs he played at the dance portion were perfect. He was easily able to tell which songs people were enjoying dancing to and played those for longer. My husband, the guests, and I had a ball dancing all night long. Danny Vasquez of Elite Disc Jockeys was our wedding ceremony and reception DJ and I would highly recommend him to anyone in the greater Santa Barbara area looking for an event DJ! He was referred to us by a friend so I was initially biased when talking to other local DJ's. However, after a few phone screens it was apparent that Danny at Elite Disc Jockeys was hands-down the best choice beyond referral. Our phone conversations with him from the start were exciting, filled with collaboration between the both of us. Every time my husband and I had an idea for a song, we emailed it to Danny for advice and he always responded promptly. We wanted to walk down the aisle to violin-covers of rap songs and we could only find them on YouTube, but this was no issue at all for Danny. He found the exact versions we wanted and created perfectly sound audio files from them (now my Mom wants to listen to 'Still D.R.E.' violin-covers cause Danny made it sound so beautiful!). We also had several homemade audio tracks that our friends had recorded that we wanted to be used intermittently throughout the night. He not only mastered the tracks to make them sound as clean as possible, he found ways to sneak the songs in between modern music and made the surprise all the more exciting. My wife and I got married April 2015 (sorry I didn't get to this review earlier). We had so many details to iron out while planning our wedding we didn't have the capacity to wrap our heads around specific songs. We had a pretty good idea for the 'first dance' songs and the general style of music we wanted our guests to enjoy during the event but we relied on Danny heavily to fill in the gaps. He did an amazing job of meeting with us before hand to suss out our style and preference. He made us feel confident we'd hear the music that makes us happy and we trusted his abilities to read the crowd and play the type of music we wanted. He absolutely crushed it and, as others have said, our dance floor was packed ALL NIGHT. It started with the first dance, father/bride and mother/son dance of course, and Danny choreographed the music perfectly. No awkward silence or abrupt starts or stops, it was seamless. He played a lot of our requests and added in songs that were similar in tone/genre. I never noticed a lull throughout the night, people were always dancing. He took some requests from our guests but overall adhered to our specified genres/requests. There was a point when he played some '70s music for the older crowd which was much appreciated by them. DJ Danny Vasquez is the man. Our wedding was an outdoor venue in May and got pretty cold at night but the dance floor was going off the whole time! He was great at communicating with us through the planning process, and was even open to meeting us for coffee a couple weeks before the wedding to make sure everything was in order and every detail/request was covered. Danny is a 5-star guy, but as with any wedding there are a couple weird things that are bound to happen. These don't affect our perspective of Danny- we would still hire him again in a heartbeat! But just so you're in the know, here are the couple of glitches we had: 1. the wireless mics kept going in and out during our vows, which just happens sometimes when you risk going with wireless equipment outside 2. he played Return of the Mac, my least favorite song of the 90's (no way for him to know that!) which confused me since we had given him over 3 hours of must-play music on our request list, and that wasn't on it 3. he announced our 2nd-to-last song of the night as the "last song" and then used our dedicated last song as a "bonus song", but it didn't quite work with our guests that way. it was a bit of a bummer since I had always pictured everyone dancing together to that last song. i think he told us he was going to do this, and i didn't squash it. so this may be partly my own fault Danny DID pull off our requested 80's medley without a hitch, and that was a HUGE hit. And he has the best deejay-emcee voice. Plus that smile, he is just a charismatic guy you can talk to and want to sit and have a beer with. We LOVED Danny. We wanted to use a specific instrumental song for our Processional but needed to rearrange the verses/choruses so the groom could walk down the aisle to the part he liked the most. And we wanted to use a First Dance song that had a beginning and end so that it wasn't just faded out in the middle of the song. Danny took all of our notes and requests and edited the songs for us to be just perfect. He made 2 versions of each one so we could have options! This guy just has the best intentions and really has your back, he wants to make sure your day is the best day it can be. And all of that at a reasonable rate, and he is willing to work with you within your budget. Don't get a random DJ from a random huge company! Call Elite Disc Jockeys and get Danny or one of his main guys. One less thing for you to worry about on your wedding day :) read more
