Despite these conditions, rent continued to accrue with no abatements. This company assisted me with preparing and filing my papers in federal court to pursue my housing-related claims. That filing opened the door for negotiations in dispossessory court. Once the landlord realized I was prepared to fight and pursue the matter further, they became willing to negotiate. As a result, I received three months of free rent, 37 additional days to vacate, and an agreement to have the filing on my CIC report sealed. What started with me being extremely skeptical ended with me feeling like I finally had someone helping me navigate a difficult situation.
