After years of being…read moresurrounded by friends and family who love, bleed and sweat CrossFit I started looking into places here in St Louis. My first stop was CrossFit 26 for an intro session. There wasn't really an intro class, per se, they just had me join in with the current on-ramp (pre-training sort of deal) class. I'm going to sound like a bitter old lady here, but I swear the kids teaching the class were not a day over 20. And not that age has anything to do with it, I just didn't get the responsible trustworthy vibe from them. I got the "cool, dude, look at what I can do" vibe. They would do something and then look at us and expect us to do it. Not the case for me. I can not go from standing here out of shape to doing a squat snatch and handstand push up without more direction and more support. One guy actually tried to just kick himself into a handstand against a wall and fell. Not proper guidance in my opinion. So just not my vibe. I found my vibe at a different CrossFit gym, after trying out 3 different ones.

I also met the owners... hilarious. Like, the kind of business owners who don't take themselves too seriously, which immediately makes you want to hang around longer. I'll be honest, I almost didn't end up taking a class at all . The website had me going in circles trying to find straightforward pricing -- everything led to booking an appointment, consult , email .. yada yada As a traveler, sometimes you just want a simple low cost affordable drop-in option, maybe a short-term deal, or even ClassPass for ease. (Would love to see them on cp in the future!) But plot twist... the instructor offered me a deal I couldn't refuse for both yoga and a CrossFit class after and I'm really glad I said yes. The yoga class? My jam. Palo santo, incense, crystals, great music... and hands-on assists (!!!). Where have those gone lately? Such a rare and appreciated touch. And the sandbags during Savasana? Next level. One across the pelvis, one across the chest,completely grounding. I was OUT. Loved every second. Only thing missing was heat, but honestly, it was perfect leading into a workout. Doing yoga in a CrossFit gym is a whole vibe. The acoustics, the graffiti walls, a little Fleetwood Mac... it felt like a perfectly chaotic, beautiful mix. Kind of like my brain on a good day. Then came the CrossFit class... It was a MET-con workout day (hello cardio), which I usually love, but this one didn't quite hit for me personally. The pacing sits in that in-between zone..not quite sprint, not quite heavy endurance . Im a turtle speed and my brain prefers one or the other. I hate the in between . Coach modified my distance a bit to make it work out timing wise for everyone to finish around the same time but I'm definitely more of a "leave me on the floor questioning my life choices" kind of workout person. That said, that's just me. I'd absolutely come back to try a strength-focused day. What really stood out was the community ...super welcoming, encouraging, and just good energy all around.
