Corina and I went to the Elite Week event and it was great. Maybe the best food we have had at a Yelp event so far. We were treated to all kinds of yummy dumplings and chili wontons. There was lots to eat and we just don't eat that much any longer so a take-home box furnished our lunch for the next day. We really want to thank Yelp and the folks at Journey to the Dumpling for putting this event together and for letting us attend. Man oh man, Journey to the Dumpling is buuusy. I came a little after 7, thinking it wouldn't be that crowded, but was I very, very wrong - it was packed! I requested my name to be added to the waitlist to dine in (since dumplings are always best fresh). The Yelp Event came with an order of pork soup dumplings (XLB), and half orders of your choice of three dumplings from their menu (excluding sui mai, har gow, and the impossible dumplings). I had (1) the ginger scallion chicken dumplings, (2) the shrimp, pork & mushroom dumplings, and (3) vegetarian dumplings in addition to the XLB. I also ordered the beef roll. Everything was delicious! The only thing I wouldn't order again would be the vegetarian dumplings. Service was excellent. Our waiter was friendly and genuinely helpful; I wish people like him existed everywhere in customer service. I agree, Journey to the Dumpling was the place to go for soup dumplings but their service has diminished from being excellent. My family has been supporting them since they opened and was happy that the restaurant survived the government pandemic mandates but the change in service is upsetting. I tried to order over the phone but the host or takeout that answered made it difficult to order from so I decided it would be better for me to order there in person. Although I did not like having to wait longer, the ordering was easier since I was able to point to photos in person. We were happy with our delicious food and it was enough for my family since I ordered extra food which is my usual practice at Yelp Events so I can further support the business. For the Yelp event, we picked out the Pork Soup Dumplings (Xiao Long Bao - XLB), Pan Fried Pork Buns (but they were sold out so they called me to switch it for Shrimp Dumplings instead), Ginger Scallion Chicken Dumplings, and Pork Chive Dumplings - I'm unsure if it was pieces but glad for the promotion. Extra food I ordered was the Garlic Green Beans, Garlic Noodles with Pork, Mantou Fried Buns with condense milk, and Honey Walnut Shrimp. Everything was fresh and paired well together with tea. They were busy even for a Tuesday so plan to wait... they estimated 30 but then took 50 minutes. When I got home, I realized they forgot to add condense milk to the Mantou Fried Bun, I called and they did NOT seem to care. It's like the Banana Split without the toppings... :( Apparently keeping customers loyal is no longer a top priority so I'm guessing Management has changed. We had the pleasure of trying 4 different types of dumplings: Xiao long BAO soup dumplings, chili oil wontons, chicken dumplings, and shrimp/pork/mushroom dumplings. Honestly they all were equally delicious, but the pork shrimp mushroom one would be what I order two plates of next time I go! The chili oil dipping sauce as well as the vinegar sauce complemented the dumplings perfectly. Super friendly waitress. My favorite restaurant in Elk Grove so you can bet I was excited to find out that Yelp was having an event here. I had to make sure I made the cut and luckily I did! Thank you Yelp!! I came here on Monday around 1PM and it was about an hour and fifteen minute wait. They close at 3pm so we were able to get in with 45 minutes to spare. I've been here too many times to count so I know what I'm getting. For the Yelp sampler, we got the pork soup dumplings and wonton in chili oil. We also ordered the steak and potatoes, garlic noodles with chicken and an order of the honey walnut shrimp. We got hot tea and water for our drinks. The honey walnut shrimp and garlic noodles came out first and it was so good! I like how they lightly batter the shrimp. The garlic noodles were great as always and adding the chicken to it made it even better. Next came the steak and potatoes, you can't go wrong with here. This is a staple in all my orders when i come here. Both dumplings came out next and I was close to being full but I had to try out both. Drinking the soup from the dumpling was so tasty and dipping it in the chili oil took it to another level. The wontons tasted so good too! Woohoo, elite perk for one of my favorite restaurants in town!! I was super excited when I got accepted into this one! I was also shocked to see how much stuff we get - very generous of the restaurant to do this, considering they're already well-established and popular already. We were heading over but a bit in a time crunch, and I know they're usually quite busy so I gave them a call ahead to see if they could get my order started so it was ready when I arrive. The guy seemed very confused and after putting me on hold, came back on the line and asked what I'd like to order. I told him again it was for the Yelp event so whatever came with that - remembering that the event email said an 8-pc soup dumpling and then our choice of dumplings for a total of about 22 dumplings. He started naming off what I could choose from but it was unclear how many I could pick. I could've picked all of them but I didn't, not wanting to take advantage of the restaurant! I ended up picking the chili wontons, shrimp dumpling, pan fried pork bun and the soup dumplings. When I came home, it really did end up being 22 pieces so maybe they were counting for the Yelp orders! Nevertheless it was such a generous portion for free and it fed both my husband and I. Thanks Elite Judi M. for the +1 invite! We went Twosday (2/22/22) and there was a little bit of a wait for dine-in but easy to add to the waitlist. They did let us wait inside where it was warm though, and we did luck out with a booth. What a nice way to celebrate our 2022 badges. The Yelp Elite Week included a complimentary meal for two which was one order of their 8-piece pork soup dumplings and a dumpling sampler (half-orders) of 3 dumplings of your choice (siumai and shrimp hargow excluded). We got the soup dumplings (XLB), and for the samplers we picked the chili wontons, the pork & chive dumplings, and the pork, shrimp & mushroom dumplings. In addition, we also ordered the siu mai and pork chop fried rice to share. I also got a pot of hot jasmine tea, and Judi also got a pork belly noodle soup to go. First to arrive at the table were the shumai...after biting into our first ones though, they seemed not to be cooked all the way through. We relayed this to our server and they made another shumai order for us, these were perfect. The soup dumplings I've had before, but be careful of the hot soup [squirt risk] when you bite in! The dumpling sauce and chili oil are great. The pork/chive and shrimp/mushroom dumplings come steamed and the sampler plate had 4 pieces of each. They were both good! The chili wontons sampler came with 6 pieces, and were spicy in a good way! In total, we got 22 dumplings complimentary (8 XLB+4 pork chive+4 shrimp mushroom+6 chili wontons) as promised, easily at least a $25 value. Judi also introduced me to the pork chop fried rice -- red rice, scrambled egg, battered/fried porkchop which was also really good. On previous visits, I've also had the Yang Chow Fried Rice, XLB, siu mai, Hong Kong Milk Tea, Singapore noodles, beef rolls, chicken feet, soy milk, salt and pepper calamari, pan fried soup dumplings, crab pork soup dumplings (seasonal). I believe my third time coming and there's no other place I would go to for the soup dumplings. The event was very generous with their offering, along with the Xio Long Bao (soup dumplings) my sister and I ordered the impossible dumplings, the chicken and ginger dumplings, and the har gaw. We also ordered the salt and pepper tofu, wontons with chili oil and the pork belly soup. We under estimated the dumplings and how full we'd get but it was all good. Can't wait to come out here next time we're in the Elk Grove area. This is my first Yelp elite event! There was a line at the restaurant right at 11AM when they open. This is my first time at this restaurant. I told the hostess I was here for the Yelp elite experience and she had no idea what I was talking about. I showed her the email details and she asked another person for assistance. He told me he had to call the owner to verify as they had not been informed of this. I asked for the order to-go as the restaurant was filled up quickly with customers. Thirty minutes later I dropped a tip in their tip box and walked out with the dumplings. They smelled so good! We got the har gow, one of my dim sum favorites, as our sampler. All of it was delicious and definitely enough food for me and my plus one. Full and happy! read more

I don't know if it's just me, but I feel like I often have issues with elite events. I'm super appreciative of these events and the delicious food, but why are owners/managers of these restaurants agreeing to these events and then not properly preparing their staff?? I chose to attend this event on Wednesday night. I tried to call in my order 3 times, but no one answered the phone, so I drove there. When I arrived, the employee was very confused. Eventually another employee came. She quoted a 45 minute wait for the food, which was accurate. Overall, the food was good, but would've been better if it was hot/fresh and eaten at the restaurant. As expected, the pork XLB were the star of the meal. The pan fried XLB were also tasty. I wasn't a big fan of the chili oil wontons - too spicy and too many toppings. The shrimp, pork and mushroom dumplings were pretty good, though not as flavorful compared to the others. I paid for the sticky rice and did not like it. Some parts of the rice were hard and the meat was dry. The portion of the dumplings was very generous. I appreciated that they included the vinegar and ginger for dipping. Super excited to get accepted into this event! My +1 and I came here on Thursday night at 6pm. I was surprised the wait wasn't long. Waited about 10-15 minutes and was seated. Once seated, our server Joanne came to introduce herself. Told her that we were there for the Yelp Elite Experience. She explained what comes with the experience. 8 pork soup dumplings and 3 dumplings sampler of choice. We got the fried pork buns, wonton in chili oil and potstickers for the sampler. We then ordered green onion pancake on the side. Pork soup dumplings: so good! It was fresh and piping hot. The dumplings were pretty big. Be careful of the soup, it can get messy :) Fried pork buns: perfectly fried. Juicy and loaded with flavors. Wonton in chili oil: a little bit too spicy for me but it was good. Potstickers: interesting looking! Crispy and delicious. Green onion pancake: too doughy and on the bland side. Needed to be fried longer. Such a fun event! My +1 and I took advantage of the fact that the Journey to the Dumpling Elite Week started on a holiday Monday. The staff at Journey were very accommodating in taking my order over the phone and having it ready for pick up in 35 minutes during a busy dinner rush. The complimentary Yelp items were so generous! We each got an order of Shanghai soup dumplings (XLB) and a choice to try other dumplings on the menu. I opted for pan fried dumplings and my fiancé got the pork and chive dumplings. We also placed an order separately for the pork chop fried rice. The person who took our order also asked if we wanted any sauces and utensils; I said yes to utensils and asked also for dumpling vinegar, ginger, and chili oil. Pick up was super easy. I waited in line to check in to the event and pay for my order; then the host went to the back to grab the food and everything was done in a few minutes! We waited until we got home to unbox everything and dig in. Having been to Journey before, I was excited to eat the menu items I knew and loved, but also liked getting to try something new like the pork and chive dumplings. My favorite thing still is the XLB, which were still warm and soupy after the drive home. The pork fried rice was a close second, but everything as a whole was delicious. Like most of you all, I'm not unfamiliar with this place. Hands down the best soup dumplings I've had. You can't beat it! We decided to come here on a Tuesday night around 7pm. I was thinking it such an off night and hoped to get right in. NOPE! This place was packed to the max and the wait was about an hour long. (Pro tip: get on the waitlist here on YELP) The waitlist app is pretty cool and user friendly. It told us where we were in line and the ETA of when you should be seated. It was worth the wait as we ordered additional soup to share. (Pork Belly soup) My regret was not ordering 2! They closed at 8 but still sat us down. Of course they wanted to know our order right away which we gave. But dang, I wish I could've ordered more. Service was superb as she came around often checking in on us. Even the hostess, she was extremely busy but still was nice and friendly. I honestly don't know why Journey to Dumpling needed a Yelp boost, but I'm glad they were very generous to serve the Yelp community. I'd honestly felt that the majority of people during the time we were there were NOT Yelp Elites, but just people that love good food. I was looking forward to eating here again after seeing that it was featured on "Take Out with Lisa Ling." My plus one and I came in before 5:00, so there was no wait. It was quite busy by the time we finished eating though. The service was friendly and quick. We had the XLB and three half orders of pan fried pork bun, vegetarian dumplings, and wonton in chili oil. I preferred the XLB and the wontons because of the thinner skin. We also ordered the green beans. It was the perfect amount of food for two, and we even had a little bit of leftovers. I am really grateful that JTTD allowed take out for this event. Every table was taken when we arrived. The email from Yelp was really confusing. It indicated that the event was for a party of 2, which consisted of 8 pork XLB and a dumpling sampler of 3. The email stated that this is about 22 dumplings. I assumed that this meant 2 orders of XLB and 6 dumplings. This was not the case when I arrived to pick up my take out order. I was credited 1 order of XLB and a half order of the wontons in chili oil. This is not even close to 22 dumplings. The XLB was really good. It was really flavorful. I also enjoyed the salt and pepper chicken wings. The best dish was the egg tarts. The best I had in Sacramento. The wontons in chili oil was not that great this time. It had way too much vinegar. The dish could use more chili oil. The walnut shrimp was okay. I had better at other similar restaurants. Overall, this event was moderately decent. What an amazing experience. We arrived at 11:45am and put in our name. The place was packed. I heard that when they opened at 11am there was already a line to go in. The wait was only 15 minutes or so. They said it would be a 30 minute wait and they would text us. We were shocked that our reservation came right up. We were seated in one of the nice booths around the edge. It was so nice and made me feel so much more comfortable then sitting in one of the tables in the middle. Every seat was taken when we arrived and turnover was pretty good. We ordered the Elite Special. Wow!!!! Was that a lot of food and we ate every bight. I wasn't hungry till way past my dinner time. I am usually a mild spice person, but as we were here to try new things and it was free. I reached out and got the Wonton in chili oily (spicy), I'd say mild spicy. A little kick. I loved the crunchy topping. It made it stand out of all the dumplings. Topped with sesame, peanuts, and green onions. The peanut flavor was totally void, it was probably covered up by the chili sauce. We bought a jar of the chili sauce. Flavorful and not spicy. Feel free to dip in the chili oil and then in one of the others. Perfect flavor and enhances the dumplings. The pan fried pork buns was not a favorite. The bottom was too had. It was difficult to eat, especially with chopsticks. The pork soup dumplings are your tradition soup dumpling. The soup is very tasty. The dumplings are served extremely hot. Beware of soup. Poke a hole in the dumpling and either suck the soup out or pour it into the spoon. My honey bit off the top and poured some chili sauce and the potsticker sauce into it. The potstickers was not what I expected. I didn't pre-look at the picture. They are rolled and looks to be pan fried with what looks like a cheese skirt, but just dough of some time. Pork Soup Dumplings: I was hesitant on trying these again because I got sick the first time I tried them a while ago. But I think because the last time I had it, it wasn't cooked all the way and the pork was super pink. But this time I made sure the pork was cooked all the way. So it was good. Vegan Dumplings: She's very earthy! Definitely vegan approved lol. It wasn't that bad! I liked it. Wontons in Chili Oil: You can never go wrong with these, probably my favorite item! Pork, Shrimp, and Mushroom Dumplings: Your typical dumpling, we enjoyed it! We also ordered a side of the "spicy" Singapore Noodles, not spicy at all. But it was tasty! It has a slight curry flavor and the shrimp made it better. Overall, I'm glad this event was organized well. What they're "known for". Never disappoints. Pan fried pork bun - Hot. Fresh. A bit too chewy for my taste. Lots of meat. Was super excited for yelp to have an event here, heard so many good reviews about this place. Whenever we pass this place, it's always so busy so we were bracing ourselves on our way there. On top of the dumplings that they gave us, we got the mushroom bao, green beens, and the special noodles. The food was great tasting, but there were a few I was thinking it would've been more of something. Don't laugh but i really thought the mushroom bao was made of a real mushroom LOL. I wish that the soup dumplings were a little more soupy, but it could be due to us taking it out. All in all, we enjoyed our experience. We'd come here again. read more

Yesssssss, a Yelp perk at one of my favorite restaurants! My plus one and I arrived at about 5pm on Tuesday and we were seated right away. Our sever was really sweet and went through our options. We went with the pan fried pork bun, potstickers and the wontons in chili oil. Of course my favorite was the pork soup dumplings!! But I was so happy I got to try their pan fried pork buns and potstickers. Both were good, but the wonton in chili oil was better! The chili oil isn't too spicy so it's perfect for those who like some flavor but not level 10 spice. Journey was very generous to gift us 21 dumplings! But, we also ordered their steak fried rice and salt & pepper spareribs. These are two of my favorite dishes here and they were so good with the dumplings. Oman we love dumplings!!! So glad I got to attend this event and bring my husband along. We got generous portions of dumplings. Got: Soup dumplings: sooo good. Soo much juice! A lot of the juice kept squinting out bc it was so juicy! Delicious and my fave! Vegetarian dumplings: hmm had yummy mushrooms instead. I do wish there were more chewy / larger pieces instead of it all being finely chopped up. House dumplings?: good, nothing special though. The wrapping is a bit thick. Tried the vinegar-y sauce w it and wasn't a huge fan. Can't do spicy so didn't really do spicy sauce. Chilli wonton- not too spicy to eat 1 or 2 for a spice wimp like me. Hubby loved it. We also bought har gao which was delicious. Had carrots on the bottom which I did not care for but I did remove them and add them into the vegetable dish to give them a garlicky flavor, yum. Seasonal veggies dish- mmm delicious! Love stir fried veggies. The sauce was great. Milk tea- yum! Great balance of tea bitterness + sweetness. One of my favorite spots in the area that I quite frankly get enough of. Of course, it's been busy every time I've visited but it really is a testament to this place and getting a chance to visit for a yelp event was even better. The dumplings they gave as part of the perk were really great and surprisingly this is my first time trying the soup dumplings! Even with a long Friday wait, staff was super friendly and didn't give me an annoyed vibes despite coming in at likely one of the busiest times for this event. The wait was worth it and of course I couldn't leave without at least ordering some of my other favorite items. The Chow Fun is always a great choice as well as the Roujiamo (Chinese meat burger). It's been ages since I've last attended any Yelp Elite events, let alone one during the pandemic, so I wasn't really sure how this would work. Thankfully an email was sent prior to the Elite Week explaining what to do when we arrived at the restaurant. So the complimentary meal for two was explained in the email as "consisting of their 8 piece pork soup dumplings and then a dumpling sampler of 3 dumplings of your choice. This will end up being about 22 pieces of dumplings!" When we got to the restaurant the place was packed. We got on the waitlist and they told us that it was about a 20 min wait, but we were seated quicker than the 20 mins they told us. Once we sat and our server came and we told her we were here for the Yelp Event and our server acknowledged that information and proceeded to take our order. Told her about the 8 piece pork soup dumpling and inquired about the dumpling sampler that was mentioned in the email and she sounded like that was the case. We also ordered garlic noodles and the string beans. The first thing that came out was the string beans, followed by the 8 piece pork dumpling and then the garlic noodles. We were almost finished with all of our food and we still hadn't gotten the sampler. When we asked the server whether we still had the sampler coming, I think she seemed confused but agreed to it and went and checked on it. A few minutes later she provided us with about 8 steamed dumpling of some sort. There was no sauce or topping on it. It was just plain dumpling. It was definitely not the 22 pieces of dumpling that was mentioned in the email. It was not that big of a deal because it is free food after all. I think next time there should be a clearer understanding for everyone involved what a Yelp attendee gets. Overall, a good experience and I thoroughly enjoyed the food. I liked the shrimp and pork ones which had a big piece of shrimp in it. The xiao long bao were also delish with a decent amount of soup in it. My least favorite was the vegetarian ones which had a weird texture to the wrappings. The pan fried ones also had a lot of dough and not much meat. As an addition I ordered pan fried noodles. I really wanted to try their hand pulled noodles chow mein style but they wanted to charge an extra $5-6 for that which I didn't think was worth it. This was one of the best Elite perks because the dumplings were SO good! I love really good xiao long baos and Journey to the Dumpling is the best in the Sacramento/Elk Grove area. The only bad thing about this event was the extra long wait for a table. I came on a Friday night and had to wait an hour and twenty minutes to be seated. They were packed with many parties waiting. Once I finally got seated, everything was great. We ordered the 8 piece pork xiao long bao dumplings, half order of potstickers, half order of chili wontons, and half order of vegetable dumplings. The pork XLBs were the best, especially with their soy sauce vinegar dipping sauce! All of the other dishes were really good as well. Everything tasted delicious! This was a solid Elite perk! Journey to the Dumping is just 1 of those spots that always delivers that bomb food! I went on a Tuesday night and did not expect to walk into a packed restaurant with a crowd outside. despite the flurry of hungry folks I manage to get in and out within 35 minutes without planning ahead. The hostess at the front was definitely flustered and seemed confused on the Yelp perk but was quick to figure things out. I have to say that their Pork & Shrimp Sui Mai is the best! everything tasted so fresh and on top of the Yelp Perk, I ordered a few extra items (and ate everything with my +1). Shoutout to the Journey Noodle soup as well, some thiccc hand pulled noddles with pork and veggies with a slightly spicy soup base that tasted like something your mom would make on a cold day. yummmmm. Feb 2022 5/5 stars! Journey to the Dumpling is the BEST restaurant in town to get your dumpling fix. Their xiao long bao (pork soup dumplings) are a best-seller for a reason. Juicy!!! Other than the XLB, they also have amazing wonton in chili oil (with house-made chili oil) har gow, and a variety of other dumplings. We got shen jian bao (pan fried buns) and chicken dumplings too. They even serve veggie dumplings and impossible dumplings! Ya gotta love vegetarian/vegan friendly restaurants! We also ordered their Peking spare ribs and got egg tarts for dessert. Their egg tarts are flaky and just oh so tasty I highly recommend this restaurant! You should come w/ more than 1 person so you can order more to share everything (family style). Some of my personal favorites that I didn't get this time: - garlic green beans - garlic noodles. The customer service here is always 10/10! The wait times can get long during peak dining hours, but you can try to join the waitlist on Yelp if it's available. Although Journey to the Dumpling is in Elk Grove, you cannot say you visited Sacramento if you haven't tried JTTD. If Elk Grove is a bit of a drive for you, get excited bc JTTD is opening a SECOND location in downtown Sacramento! Please support this small business. read more

The food and service were great. The restaurant does get a little crowded and space is limited. A table for 4, with 6 dishes, a bottle of wine, and 4 cups of water was a struggle. Dumplings were crispy and fresh, XLB(xiao long bao) soft, chewy and juicy. Be careful with it, it'll squirt on you. The pan-fried soup dumplings was a first for me. I thought the texture was a little tough not as chewy. Friendly staff that were very tentative. All in all another successful Yelp week! read more

Best Asian restaurant in Elk Grove. It's my first recommendation to friends and visitors. We went Tuesday evening and were seated right away. Always attentive staff and we got our order quickly. The soup dumplings are always great and we went outside of our traditional order choosing a few dumplings we never had before. Delish! We also added Szechuan string beans. Perfectly cooked with just three right amount of heat (but a little short on ma). The tasty smells followed me all evening after I left due to my sloppy enthusiasm with the food. read more

First Yelp event of the year & it was a good one. I love Journey to the Dumpling, so with or without this event, they have my support. We were graciously gifted with an order of soup dumplings and 2 half orders of dumplings of our choice. We also ordered more food on the side. The famous soup dumplings live up to the hype. Our waiter even showed us how to properly eat the soup dumpling. We also ordered the wontons in chili oil, which is our favorite & it was yummy as usual. It was a great event & I'm glad that people got to enjoy this business because it's definitely one of the best in Elk Grove. read more

When Yelp offered this Elite event at Journey to the Dumpling I was "all in"! Thanks to Yelp for accepting my entry to this sought after event! I showed up a little early. They opened at 11am on Monday which was also a holiday....there was already a line. In the few times I've been here before this place has always been packed! But this review isn't about the business but about the event. After a short wait, I was seated. I perused the menu because I wanted to try out a few other items in addition to the Yelp Elite Dumpling offering. it appears I was the first Elite Yelper since the staff wasn't too familiar with the event. After a quick call to the owner, everything was dialed in. I was happy to be the first LOL! Asha was the server. She provided excellent customer service during the experience and I asked her to select the dumplings. Ironically, they were what I would have selected and they were brought up piping hot, fresh and absolutely yummy! There are numerous reasons why this place is always hopping. Also, why they are called the "premiere' dumpling house. Anyways, any questions I had were answered as well. The veggie fried rice was so good too. I swear they cooked it with garlic butter but nope. lol. The Siu Mai was my fave and perfect. I was interested to see a slice of carrot under each piece which was a nice touch! This was a great event with lots of tasty food to try, however the organization of the event could have used some fine tuning. My friend and I got there about 7p and directions for checking in were not clear. We ended up getting our dumplings to go and sitting outside. A couple of the dumpling options we wanted weren't available but that's okay. They originally forgot the sauces for the dumplings but we were able to go back in and get them. We ordered a couple other things (not pictured) but one of those items were garlic noodles and that was easily my favorite item. Overall a great event to kick off the year! read more

Elite Week: Journey to the Dumpling - Yelp Events Near Me - Elk Grove, California

This was officially the last Elite event organized by our former CM Alex Lane, in a long list of amazing events during his 11+ year tenure with Sacramento Yelp. So kudos, thank you, shout outs, and so much love and appreciation to the man, the myth, (and now) the legend for all of his hard work and friendship forged by local foodie lovers and reviews. It has certainly been a fun journey throughout the years, and we will miss that guy at the helm! Now onto the dumplings! I showed up to JTTD on the first day, which happened to be a holiday Monday. The place was busy and crowded, as usual, with a short line out the door. The hostess was very sweet and polite and apologized for the wait. I checked in with her and she was very patient with my indecisiveness about what dumplings to get. The Yelp perk included a full order (8 pieces) of XLB (soup dumplings) and 3 half orders (4 pieces each) of any other dumplings. I chose a variety of chicken, pork, and shrimp, all pan fried. She said it would be a 35-45 minute wait for takeout and to just go straight to the counter to pick up after receiving a text. I ended up shopping at nearby while I waited. My order was ready closer to 55-60 minutes. I had a 30 minute drive home so I needed to reheat some of the food by the time we ate. The dumplings were delicious and went so well with the chili oil and the vinegar dipping sauce they included. Seemed like most were a pork filling. The only negative was the soup got absorbed in to the dumpling. Best to enjoy those for dine in to get the full hot soup dumpling experience. Other than that, all those dumplings made for 2 more meals, with our fried rice and garlic noodles that I also ordered. Thank you, Journey to the Dumpling and Yelp Sacramento for this Elite experience! We came here during a busy dinner rush tonight so we had to wait about 45 mins. You are added to the Yelp waitlist where you'll see your place in line. I noticed that when I was 2nd in line, Yelp said I'd been waiting for an hour but it was 45 mins. Just be mindful of that as you wait. This isn't my first rodeo here but the menu is pretty big that I haven't been able to try other things and this opportunity gave me that chance. I ordered the Hong Kong lemon tea which was really good because it tastes like it's made with freshly squeezed lemon juice. In my opinion, I think it could be just a tiny bit sweeter but it was still really good nonetheless. We really enjoyed the soup dumplings and the shrimp, pork, mushroom dumplings as well. We ordered a few extra sides too, beef roll and the green beans. The beef roll was lacking in flavor a bit. I think it would be even better if it was a tab bit more crispy. The food overall was good! One thing they didn't have on their menu that might be a seasonal item, that was my absolute favorite is the soy sauce chicken. The staff here are very friendly. I understand that I came during a busy dinner rush, so we weren't able to get some drink refills in a timely fashion but that wasn't a biggy. I'd definitely come again. read more

This review is so late and I swore I reviewed it already, but I had such a great time! It was even better than my first visit as the servers were attentive and thorough about the menu. We were afraid we may not be able to get in on time before closing, but about 5 minutes before- we got called for a table, which was a relief as we didn't want to have to do a to-go order. We got to try a variety of different dumplings and everything was perfect. Thank you so much to the hardworking employees and Yelp for putting on this fantastic event. read more

I'm so glad waitlist is offered through Yelp, it really adds a level of convenience. We were seated on time. Overall, we received good service from friendly staff. The 22 dumplings were very generous. The soup dumplings were excellent! Each dumpling is a giant mouthful. Skin wasn't too thick, just the way I like it. Very soupy inside and meat was seasoned just right. I brought my appetite and a friend, so we also ordered peking spare ribs, pot stickers, beef noodle soup, egg tarts and a bottle of wine. Everything tasted great. Love the crispy bottoms of the potstickers. Egg tarts here are a must - warm, crispy, flakey, buttery, creamy and a happy ending to our meal. :) The deep fried ribs didn't taste heavy at all and they were wonderful. I just wished there weren't tiny bone fragments. The beef noodle soup was almost perfect, but it was missing an element of sweetness, which might cut the brininess and hint of bitter aftertaste that hits the palate after a few sips. Also, the menu says Cabernet Sauvignon by old vine, but we received a bottle of Stonewood wine, which was confusing, since label is different from the menu. The wine was flat and mute in taste, and I'd wish there were more selections to choose from. I really enjoyed this experience, thank you Yelp and Journey! read more

I really enjoyed this event and was glad that I could bring a guest with me. Unfortunately I didn't look at the Yelp page ahead of time to see the recommendation to join the waitlist and we had to wait about 35 minutes before we could get a table. The place was packed! We looked over the menu and picked a few options for our 3 dumpling sampler choices and other food options. Unfortunately when the waitress came to take our order 2 out of our 3 dumpling choices were excluded from the offer so that was a bummer. We ordered a few more plates in addition to what came with the event and everything was delicious. Some favorites worth getting again were the chili wonton dumplings, Peking pork, beef roll, and egg rolls. Our server was super sweet and attentive and made the experience really enjoyable. I have been a fan of Journey to the Dumpling since they opened and was super excited to be accepted into this amazing Yelp perk! We stopped in on Thursday night for dinner and the place was busy as expected, the wait wasn't too bad and was seated in about 20 mins. Our server was friendly and checked us in and let us know what we can order from the Yelp Perk. We get one order of XLB (pork soup dumplings) and a three item dumpling sampler. We were a little disappointed for the three item sampler since we were limited to the pork and chives , chicken, and veggie dumplings. We end up ordering on top of our yelp orders the chili wontons, green beans, Sui mai, and plain fried rice. Overall, the food came out quickly and were freshly prepared. We were happy with our food and the service was great. Thank you to Yelp and Journey to the dumpling for such a great offering! We will be back very soon for our next dumpling cravings. read more
