I went to see Dr Terry Ycasas the end of last year and feel it's important to finally provide some feedback which may be helpful for some. I had some some various body glitches and Dr Terry was one of the recommendations from a massage worker friend. She was a couple blocks from home and we like to support local when we can . She was very nice, as is the staff at Elixia. However, the treatments, treatment plan and expense left a lot to be desired. First, before she could begin treatment, she said I needed a lot of x-rays, which even in network, cost a lot of money. And I had to wait to get any treatment/relief until getting the X-rays done and back for a review. After reviewing the X-rays she said I needed to come 3 times a week for 3 months to improve. She pointed out all sorts of problems with my body that needed extensive work. I asked if this wasn't part being human and aging, but Terry said this could hopefully all get sorted. I asked if there could be a plan b that could help without having to spend so much time and money. She said no, 12 weeks and 36 sessions was the only solution. I thought I'd try a couple weeks and see if it may help. I ended up feeling worse after 5 sessions and stopped. She would probably say I quit too soon and sometimes we get worse before better. I wasn't going to continue to throw time and money at an approach that didn't make a lot of sense to me. I then decided to try a local cranial sacral specialist and felt 75% better, in one session. I then tried a new massage person who focused on body structure alignment who got me further along the path of better. This was in just two sessions. Yoga, long walks, swimming and patience have done the rest. So while Terry would seem to work for some, and she was perfectly nice, I gained no obvious benefit, found her plan rigid, her treatments lacking insight and spent many hundreds of dollars for the experience. I'm imagining for many, searching out a good bodyworker could save you a lot of time and expense. read more

Great menu of services to treat the whole person. Office staff are professional and competent, clinicians are qualified and the location is convenient if you live in the area. The clinic accepts insurance which is a huge bonus. Parking is a little tricky during certain times and some treatment rooms are noisy due to street traffic which can be distracting. read more

I was in bad shape when I first found Dr Ryan Minarik. I could barely raise a glass of water to shoulder level without pain in my left shoulder. He is exceptional...over the course of treating me it was gone in a few months and I am back to my daily yoga practice. I also want to commend the staff at Elixia. TOLD ME I HAD TO EAT MEAT TO GET PREGNANT which is just not true. This place is very anti-vegan and anti-vegetarian and preaches the newest "fad" diet - Paleo. They recommend this to all of their clients, no matter who you are and what your condition. Paleo only makes people feel better because they're eliminating refined sugars from their diets - not because they eat animal protein. And to suggest there's no other way for me to get pregnant is just untrue. Their recommendation to eat meat would actually make my condition (fibroids) worse, not better - red meat is the worst thing I could eat. They should not be giving nutritional advice without doing their research and their fad diet preaching is just irresponsible. read more

I was referred to Melody by my former L.Ac in the Bay Area, who apparently was a classmate of hers in Chinese Medicine school, and man do I ever owe her for that! I've only had one appointment with her so far, but it was almost immediately effective for my particular maladies (I'll spare you the gory details, but let's just say they're female ones...). Not only that, but she emailed me about a product she had recommended, within a couple hours after the appointment...and when I replied to tell her how effective the treatment was, she was stoked and replied to me right away. She also gave me her cell# to reach her. I love it when a practitioner is actually interested in communicating with you without a co-pay. read more

I have been having a very sore neck and shoulder for several years now. I assumed it was because I was getting old and there was nothing to be done. My daughter suggested that I try a chiropractor and although I didn't hold out a lot of hope, I made an appointment with Dr. Terry Ycasas at Elixia wellness in Sellwood. Boy was I in for a pleasant surprise! Dr. Ycasas is a miracle worker as far as I am concerned. She carefully pointed out what was out of alignment and then got to work with what I consider to be her "magic devices." In a few weeks I started to feel much better. This place is great... If you want to be rubbed down. It is not, however, the place to go to be healed. I only had experience with the massage, not chiro, but I was not impressed, and will not be going back. I was bathed in essential oils, and essentially petted for an hour. The best thing that I have ever done in my life. I was a skeptic at first, being raised on traditional western medicine but now I am a believer. Dr Weeks is amazing. Dr. Crites has really gone above and beyond to help me on the road to healing after a car accident. I went to several other providers with no luck. My mom has been going to Dr. Crites for a few years and no longer has chronic pain. She insisted I go to him and I'm happy I did. After about 7 sessions and some progress I seemed to be stuck. He recommend that I have pelvic floor work done. The concept to me seemed very weird but I'm in pain everyday so I will try anything at this point. He referred me to wildflower medicine and the experience was actually something I think all women should try. I had a left thumb tendon problem and had almost resigned myself to surgery. As a last resort I went to Elixia to visit their acupunturist Natasha. I've had acupunture before but it was using the Chinese method. Natasha is a practioner of the Japanese method. This seems to provide a quicker almost instantaneous response for me. I have had 3 sessions so far and they seeem to be helping. I may be able to avoid surgery after all. Natasha is an especially competant acupuncturist and knows the connections for most of your pain and even finds places that you are not aware of that helps treat your problem. read more

I purchased a package for acupuncture which did not have a set expiration date. I used some of the packages and wanted to save the other ones for when I needed them next as I had come in for some treatment which had helped me at that time. So, now I want to use them as I am in need again and all of a sudden, they are now expired - when no date was given before. I was told that they could not honor them and the original acupuncturist I'd seen who had moved onto a new shop, Danielle Melanson who I have loved, also stated she would not honor them in her new place either. Feel ripped off. Front office person was very nice about it and did call to see if Danielle was willing to honor them but overall I will not be back to see them or Danielle as I feel they did not honor the package I bought (which was not cheap) and it was not provided with a timeline or expectations on its usage at the time of purchase. She stated they were for people to come in and get routine care. This was not spelled out in the package they offered at the time. So, beware a deal was not a deal! read more

I just purchased an Amazon Local deal for a 60 minute massage for Elixia Wellness Group yesterday (8/14) and went in today for my full body massage; not the best first or last impressions were made. I spoke with the receptionist the day before and she said I could print out paperwork online and fill it out beforehand to get my massage started right away. My appointment was made for 10:15am and when I got there, already about 10 minutes early, the receptionist said, "Oh, the massage therapist isn't in yet, he thinks your appointment is at 10:30am." I responded, "No, the appointment was made yesterday for the earliest appointment today at 10:15am." She just had me take a seat and I sat and waited until 10:30am anyway. The massage therapist spoke to me for a few minutes and got started a few minutes after 10:30am, so one would obviously assume he would finish at 11:30am or a few minutes after especially if the massage therapist thought our appointment began at 10:30am. He finished with my massage at 11:15am, ONLY approximately a 45 minute massage, and it was also NOT a true full body massage. He did not massage my head, upper neck, full arms, hands, fingers, and feet which is typically included with full body massages. The massage was not bad, but I was ripped off for 15+ minutes and it was not full body massage even after I verified it would be once I arrived to the room. Bad first impression, I will not be returning here for any massages or any other treatments in the future. read more

I never thought I would have taken children to be "needled" but my 6 year old daughter had recurring bladder infections and the antibiotics were really taking a toll. I decided to see Melody. After the 7th diagnosed infection, I called Melody and was so thankful she could squeeze us in. 4 days after treatment, we rechecked the urine and it was clean. No more infection and no drugs. Melody has a lovely way that gains the trust of children immediately and amazingly takes something that could be considered scary and puts children right at ease. I love this place. The only health practitioners to be able to do much for me and my issues have been naturopaths. I mostly chose this clinic because I found Dr. Minarik who performs prolotherapy. I was curious about this procedure and wanted to know if it would work for me. I contacted Elixia and one other clinic, and Elixia was the first to respond. Dr. Minarik called me ASAP and we discussed my issues and whether or not I'd be a good candidate for prolo. Turned out my issues are right up the prolo alley so I have been a patient now for six months I believe.
