On the surface it doesn't look like this station has a lot going on for it. There are not a ton of…read moreattractions around it like the CTC, JW Clay, 36th Street, or Bland St. The businesses around here are older than ones around other stations. For those in the local neighborhoods, this light rail is a lifeline. Beyond Tryon and Tom Hunter, there is a ton of urban-light residential within a couple of miles from the station. The crosswalks on either end of here are surface level and you can cross from either side of Tryon. I know quite a few people from this area that are very optimistic for the doors the Blue Line Extension is opening up for them. Better access to North End, better access to UNCC, and more time for their families with less bus routes to take. While this station doesn't do much for me personally, it's an important one that will continuously improve the community and the lives of local Charlotteans. I can dig it!

The station is pretty well lit. It is a block from the wonderful Midnight Diner (reviewed separately) and the Morehead Street Tavern. Looking south, you can see the train coming from as far away as Bland Street Station but from the north, there is a curve where it crosses the highway. There are automated announcements that let you know a train is a few minutes away. There are ticket vending machines on each platform. Note that you must purchase your ticket before boarding the train. The LYNX line does have fare inspectors and they're serious about it.

The Carson Lynx Station is the "last" stop on the line before the lynx crosses over I-277 and into Uptown. It is also good to note that the trail still continues on under Moorehead, but then diverts you over to Moorehead/College St if you are trying to walk in. No pedestrian traffic allowed on the light rail bridge over 277. A lot of folks get on the train at the other end of the line in Pineville, so by the time the train reaches Carson, it's pretty packed (depending on the time of day... I'm talking rush hour when it is pretty packed). No men employed to squeeze people in the trains yet (like Japan), but if you value your personal space, I would either try to get an earlier train, or just avoid the rush hour altogether. Other than that... pretty standard light rail station. No park and ride here.... but lots of residential places nearby and you've got TWC News 14 building behind the station off of South Blvd and the Midnight Diner about a block away.

Note that the Lynx system requires that you have a ticket in your possession - ticket inspectors do patrol the trains randomly and they do not accept "Oops." UNCC is a massive campus with an enrollment of some 30,000 students and it stands on a 1,000 acre campus. The station is at the surface level with a single island platform. There is a crossover just before the station and the trains could be at the stop on either side. There is some cover here but the station is otherwise completely exposed to the elements as are nearly all Blue Line stations. There is an automated ticket vending machine on the platform and you must have a ticket before boarding the train. You can also use the CATS app to purchase online. The next stop southbound is JW Clay Blvd/UNC Charlotte towards I-485/South Boulevard. An excellent station on the new northern extension of Charlotte's Blue Line light rail that as of…read moremid-March now extends from University City at the north end and I-485 at the south end. This clean and modern station is quite large and features a decent covered waiting area on the platform where there are automated ticket vending machines and overhead announcements (both visual and audible) of the next train in either direction. There are two platforms with the two tracks between them. This is a surface station and easily handicap accessible. A big plus here is the very large five story parking deck (800 spaces!) that is connected to the station with a pedestrian bridge and stairs/elevator. At the moment, parking is free though you need a ticket in order to exit the deck on weekdays between 3pm and 6pm. There is a great stop for a number of CATS buses on the opposite side of the parking deck. Very close to the station is the Shoppes at University Place shopping center and a number of apartment/condo buildings. The station is between UNC Charlotte (the northern terminus) and McCullogh to the south.

This station is the southern terminus of the Lynx line so it has a greater capacity since more…read morepeople will be starting or finishing their journeys. They have a three story parking deck (free!) and a ground level overflow lot. Both are accessible from South Boulevard. The platform is elevated, so you might want to consider taking the elevator or feel free to climb the stairs if you feel fit. There is a ticket vending machine on the platform, but you may want to use one of the two that are in the garage if there is a line. Not a whole lot of cover on the platform, so if it's wet or windy or cold, I'd suggest waiting in the garage until the train gets ready to leave.
