No grills available and no picnic tables. There is a dock. You can put in row boats and kayak in lake but nothing with a motor.

Fairly large campground with spots that aren't too close together. Beach is typically dragged each morning in the summer and canoes, kayaks, and even motorized pontoon boats for rent. The motorized pontoon is blasphemy for those of us who have been going to the park since the 1970s, but they aren't so many that it is too loud or disruptive. There is one short trail that is accessible for all and there is a mix of pit and flush toilet facilities. There is no life guard at the beach but there is a safe and sizable enclosed playground for young ones.

We rented a houseboat from 5/14-17, there were 4 of us. I have a lot of experience with VRBO type rentals. The houseboat was in good working order, had all the amenities dishes, toaster, TV, Vcr, 2 staterooms with double bed, two additional berths with double beds and the couch pulls out to a double bed. The boat was pretty simple to operate. Cell Service we had service in two of closest coves to the marina , AT&T no Verizon. We didn't have any complainants .. other then poor weather. You just have to have reasonable expectations. This is glorified camping on the water. We had a great time three generations of boys getting together to do a little fishing while we ate good, played some cards, watched a couple of movies, explored the lake. Cons: The lake is allegedly dry, but it seems to be one of those don't ask don't tell type things. Tips: Bring some work gloves when you are tying the boat to shore there are a few sticker bushes etc, bring a small hatchet same issue to use when tying the boat off. I would also have a pair of jeans for the same purpose. next year we will probably bring a small dingy to pull behind to do a little fishing from.

In the mid 1800's Confederates burned most of the town to the ground. We rebuilt. This review comes from my memoirs. Wait, I haven't written them, but, if I did, I would give at least one chapter to my teenage years spent partying and hanging out at Sutton Lake. I went to high school in Sutton, and, we often skipped school and headed for the lake for a day of fun filled drankin' and smokin' and, well, you know. The early 80's were for socializing and partying with my gang of peeps. It's amazing I graduated. That any of us did, for that matter. Everytime I go home, I always visit the lake. When I was going there in my teens, it was simply a beautiful lake enveloped by the beautiful Appalachian Mtns, with picnic areas. Sometimes it felt as if those mountains were hugging you. Today, there is much more recreation to be had, but, this review is about my memories. All through high school, this was the spot. I had a music (Jazz Chorus) teacher who knew what was going on, so he would sometimes show up and stay with us. I didn't realize what he was doing until I became a mature adult. He was our protector, not, enabler. In the 80's, where I was from, kids would be kids. No matter what ma' and pa' said. I lived 40 miles from the school. If I missed the bus, which I often did, I had to hoof it home on my thumb. Many a time I would arrive home at 2100 or later, drunk, high, sober, hungover and famished and tired, only to be met at the door with my very angry grandmother (God love her, she raised me) and a fist full of brier switches! Let me tell you, that is the best time to take a beating because you are so numb you feel nothing. It's like, "Hey! You missed a spot!" I miss those years. I like to refer to them as my "rebel without a clue years", and, I have not one regret! Thanks for letting me share my personal story!

The park, massive in size at over 3,100 acres in size, overwhelmed my pupils as I've never seen anything quite so large -- except my buddy's orange cat. The young lad at the marina was friendly and chill, so he got us suited up and we spent our one-hour slot on the muddy waters. The Oldtown kayaks worked nicely, although the Pelican that I never bought when I worked retail had a much nicer Finnish to it. Let's go Lahti Pelicans! After chasing down ducks and swatting cicadas, we reached dry land and surrendered what was left of our cleanliness in the process. I had to get some of that Beech Fork brown off of my Vogue-tier short king legs. "Did you have fun?" asked the marina worker. "Yes we did," we replied. The trails weren't well maintained.

I've biked the rail trail here many times since its opening many many years ago and each time is…read morejust as wonderful as my first time. I recently went with a couple of my childhood friends who had never been and we had an amazing ride. There are several cool tunnels to go through and there is always wildlife to view and enjoy on your ride. The town of Cairo is always one of my favorite parts of biking this trail, but it was also nice to see someone built a nice little park for the kids right off of the rail trail in Ellenboro to which we stopped at to cool off under the shelter and share some snacks on one of their picnic tables. The park itself is absolutely beautiful! The lake is great for boating and fishing, and the lodge and restaurant are great too. I hope you enjoy yourself while here because I know I always do :D
