The market prices have gotten to expensive and I'd rather give my money to a small business vs a CEO. And Rogers isn't too far off a drive from Blaine, plus extended family is in the area. And I don't care for VonHanson's or Anoka Meats. So road trip to Rogers it is. I've grown up eating smoked meats from Thielen Meats (Pierz, MN) so I judge smoky smells and flavor to them. And walking into the market they definitely had something being smoked in the back! I saw a buffet on one side of the market but that was empty today. Only lunch buffet is offered during the week. Lots of deep freezers and upright freezers to grab different proteins (sausage, weiners, jerky, beef sticks, ground beef, patties and seafood). They also had a freezer full of take n bake pies. They also had a fresh deli salad and meat counter. Two guys working the fresh meat counter were very helpful. Gave me written instructions on cooking everything. It was only me and 1 other person the whole time. After I paid and waited for sis to pay, then 5 other people/families walked in. It got busy quick. We bought a frozen bologna ring (big shoes to fill because...Theilens), a stuffed pork chop, 2 cheesy Twice baked potatoes, and 2 stuffed jalapeños. Also 75/25 beef/pork blend of ground hamburger for only $4.49/lb. That's a price I like. We just came from MG Costco and price compared on different cuts of beef (ground, roast, sirloin, chops). These guys are just a tish cheaper too, which was surprising. Made a pork chops, potatoes and jalapeños for dinner tonight. Oh yeah! We'll be back. Those tastes 10 times better than Hyvees fresh meat counter.

Unlike some Aldi stores, this one has a wide open entry minimizing congestion and allowing you to go to whatever aisle you need instead of being forced down the first aisle. If you are not familiar with Aldi, there are a few quirky things... - if you want a cart, it costs a quarter which you get back upon returning the cart. This is great in that there are not carts randomly sitting around the parking lot. - paper bags cost $.15 each so remember your own bags - they don't have everything like a large grocery store...but they tend to have the essentials. The Aldi store brand is great for canned goods, snacks, and crackers. - they have a constantly changing variety of "aldi finds" which range from a name brand product at a steep discount to seasonal housewares.

The staff are always friendly and welcoming. The store has some unique and worthwhile items on the store shelves - including 12 packs of Tab (which preceded Diet Coke) and frozen Gino's East pizzas from Chicago! The only room for improvement I know of would be a self service check-out, new grocery carts to replace the ones that are bent up and perhaps a little more care and tending to the lawns in the summer - unless you love clover.

Some of our favorites are -- * Angus roast beef - for cold and hot roast beef sandwiches -- far better than packaged deli meat from the other sections of other stores * best fried chicken we have had in the state of Wisconsin * my spouse is diabetic, so we go to the lower carb/calorie end of the deli salads --and our favorites are broccoli bacon salad, cowboy caviar (corn, green peppers, red peppers and some black beans in a light vinaigrette, They have an excellent selection of groceries and a very nice produce and in store bakery. Of the stores in Menomonie, we think their beef is of the highest quality. We really like them-- I have been trying to get them to do a local food fair and a ad spread to support it . Wisconsin has wonderful artisan cheese makers and several are very near Menomonie -- Eau Galle Cheese-- but the store doesn't carry them. Area apples and produce are incredible -- So to get my fifth star -- Marketplace needs to host a local food fair--in the store -- and show off and stock our wonderful local food producers -- I don't have a dog in this fight --- just want the local producers and store to bond -- i.e.just trying to get up the date -- but I hope they eventually marry.
