You can get a nice walk in with the looping combo of paved trail and boardwalk/bridges. There are a few shelters and trees around to help with the sun a bit. On the far end is a playground, with a very nice large shelterhouse with picnic tables. The playground is a lot of wood, metal, and climbing nets, and has sections for ages 2-5 and 5-12. By far the biggest draw appeared to be the very tall, fast slide, accessible via climbing net. There are benches available, and play shades available in one section. A nice sized parking lot is available too.

So littles with necessary diaper changes and meltdowns may pose a difficult space to take a break in the car. Parking is a trek from the actual playground. Plan accordingly.

Just north of here there is a low-head dam currently situated on the Creek. so we needed to avoid that structure, and selected this park as a starting point. there is a nice boat ramp, and although there have been quite a bit of rain the water level had receded overnight, so we had to walk the boats out to the center of the creek. After a little scooting around we were on our way. This is a great launching point, and it made for a great float of about 1-1/2 to 2 hours into downtown Gahanna. Our kayak takeout was Friendship Park, just south of the Creekside area, but you can read all about that and another one of my reviews.

Searching for parks on a hot day, for Baby K to play at, we went to half a dozen. We needed one…read morethat was not busy (at least, not crowded with kids at the playground), that had some shade on the playground so she didn't burn her legs on the slides, and where Dada didn't have to walk far from the parking lot. We got all that here, and so much more. There is a fair-sized playground with several slides, climbing areas, swings, etc. And: an obstacle course with logs, tunnels, little houses to play in, and more. Wow. Plus it's a great park otherwise: shade, plus green space, a shelter with bathrooms, tables, a rain garden, places to fish by a big pond, paths, basketball courts and playing fields, and more. Beautifully laid out, full of fun, we will definitely be back.

There are boulders to climb, outdoor musical instruments to play, a treehouse to play pretend in (and is wheelchair accessible!), a merry-go-round, swings, a traditional playground structure with slides, and lots more. The playground area is lined with wood chips. There is also lots of space to run around, and lots of trees. Like the name of the park suggests, this is a very sensory-friendly park, and there are nature stations set up all around where you can use your senses to explore. There is also a short, paved trail that goes around the park, which is wide and smooth enough for strollers and wheelchairs. The trail goes by a creek, which is nice. As of right now, this is the only sensory-friendly park in the state of Ohio! It's definitely worth a visit.

Along the path are a variety of interactive stations that are also designed to be accessible. If you start near the entry sign, you'll find a Little Free Library, which, on our recent visit, was loaded with a lot of great kids options. Just ahead is a variety of benches and a little music garden, featuring musical instruments that can be played, and you can also interact with the Rough Bark Tactile Display to learn more about different tree barks. A little further down are the cutest animal looking instruments that can also be used. As you continue down the path, you find a swingset with a variety of swings that include both traditional and accessible options. There's a nice little shaded bench area with information about the creek, Fetter's Run, that can be seen from the location. As you proceed along, a very exciting find is the Treehouse, which is built within the forest trees as opposed to up in one, which allows a wheelchair ramp to make it accessible. This overlooks the creek and has things to explore, like neat nature art and a second floor (not accessible) with a fire pole. At the end of the path is a shelter house with picnic tables and nearby grills. Most, if not all, of the signage included Braille translations, as well. There is a large parking lot here, but I do note that this is located behind a school, so I'm not sure how that would affect parking for a visit during a school day.

Looking like a castle from the parking lot, it is big, with assorted equipment for all ages. Several benches for parents to relax in the shade while their kids go nuts. Swings, slides, "rocks" to climb, rope bridges, etc., etc. Baby K had a blast. Small drinking fountain outside, not very toddler-friendly, so bring a water bottle. There are restrooms not far away in the park. Plenty of parking.

This is a really neat park that nicely bridges natural and active areas. There's a great view of…read moreseveral ponds that are full of birds and surrounded by some bird houses. It's really relaxing to watch the water and wildlife from the bridges. There are several athletic fields, including some very nice baseball diamonds, and a shelterhouse with restrooms. The playground is located near the ponds and is extremely cool! It is nicely worked into the landscape, taking advantage of varying heights with a lot of neat ways to get up and down to the various levels, from boulders to jump on, giant stone steps to take, slides, stumps to step on, and the like. There is a great zip line that kids can easily work themselves, and it really picks up some great speed. There are climbing walls, nets, and musical elements. It looks like there is a really nice water play area during the warmer months - it has a nice flow down the hill, over rocks, under logs, and ending in a sand area. We definitely want to come back again when it's warm to check that out. A paved multi-use trail is also available. We really enjoyed this park!

There's a basketball court, a shelterhouse with picnic tables, a portapotty, a paved walking path, and a nice large playground area. The playground features baby, traditional, and adaptive swings, seesaws, several spinny seats, and a nice large structure that has slides and a lot of great climbing options. There's also a nice music section with several instruments to play. The playground was a bit hit. Street parking is available (but check the signage for exactly where) and it's also off of a biking path.

The playground at Kachelmacher Park is like the park that time forgot. It's straight up the 1980s…read morein this park, with all of the vintage metal playground equipment that you and I grew up with that totally would not fly today. Basically, all of those rides and slides that would burn your legs in the summer are here and still providing kids with hours of fun at Kachelmacher. There's the metal twisty slide, the long metal straight slide, the metal character riders, the metal monkey bars, the metal straight bars to do your flips, the metal geodesic dome -- all the metal. We visited on a mild spring day, so the metal equipment wasn't a problem, but I imagine that in the summer, the equipment will get hot. Just be aware of that. There are also more modern things, like swings, a play firetruck, a teeter totter, a wooden fort and a plastic play area for younger children. There are also lots of picnic tables at which to sit, as well as a shaded and covered area with picnic tables for a party, and a fireplace hearth. (It wasn't lit when we were there, so I'm not sure if it is working or if you're allowed to light it.) There were no restrooms that I could see, so plan accordingly.
