Even though I was impressed with how beautiful the old building was and how well stocked the shelves were with books, that was not why I was there. Me and my husband had made an appointment to get our passports processed. I made a appointment a few weeks ago (online) for 5pm. We were there a few minutes early, so the young lady at the desk told us to have a seat. Sure enough at 5pm exactly another young lady comes out (forgot to get her name) and goes over all our paperwork. She was very precise, making sure every line was filled out correctly. I didn't need my birth certificate, because I had a old passport (that had expired), but my husband needed his, since it was his first time getting one. The cost is $130 per person for the passport. An additional $35 per person to the Jenkintown Library for their processing fee. They only take personal checks or money orders. That's right!, no cash or credit cards. You also need to have your picture taken (before you get there) at a place that takes passport photos. I had mine taken at Staples for $14.99. All in all the appointment went pretty smooth after filling out the paperwork. They made us feel welcome and I would highly recommend the Jenkintown Library for your passport needs.

I like to request books from other Delco libraries and pick up here. They also have museum passes like for Tyler Arboretum and participate in the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program. The staff is friendly and helpful, they told me about the Delco Reads app. It's been really convenient to request books and keep track of what I have checked out. I am always requesting books from other libraries and I look forward to my trips to the library every week to say hi to Caroline our neighborhood librarian!

The Greater Olney Branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia is always busy, most times SRO, and offers great service. If you need to use a computer, sign up is automated and easy with the use of a library card (available free at the check out desk with a piece of current ID). If you need to learn how to use a computer, staff can get you started or the librarian will help you make an appointment with a "computer buddy," a volunteer who will give you a pretty good introduction. If you're looking for that special DVD or CD, either its on the shelf or one of the friendly staff will order it in for you (takes about a week to arrive, usually less). Want three books listed on your kid's summer reading list for third grade? Ask the inimitable, dynamic children's librarian (if you can get past her ever-present fan club of children), Need Harry Potter or Stephen King in Chinese? They own copies. Need a translator? I've seen the librarians make a general call to the patronage in the room for help translating for a Spanish, Vietnamese, or Haitian patron and each time a volunteer has answered the call. For prompt service, diverse collections, an atmosphere of cordial respect and open-mindedness, no one is greater than Greater Olney Library.

They have a nice range of books, movies and books on tape for kids and adults. Thy have an amazing spot for children to sit and read. They also have a small computer that plays ABC mouse and kids can read and learn as they play. The only downfall of this small library is the parking lot. The parking lot isn't very big- so you basically have to get there early enough to get a spot. The staff is always very friendly and help you look for the books and titles you need. I love this library but wish they were open the same time everyday. Monday and Tuesday thy are open at 10am and the rest of the week they open at 1pm. Be great if they opened at 10am each day.

A positively charming little library here in South Philly!…read more There are guest readers, and story times for the little ones. The staff here seems to really be passionate about literacy as well. I wish more people would stop on by- a library is a fantastic place for kids to expand their minds! Sadly, I think that parents now love to plop their kids down in front of a screen rather than have them exposed to books. The books here are not in the newest condition, but there is a great selection to choose from. Some modern tales, as well as the classics. Definitely worth a trip to check it out.
