For being such a large library with an entire floor dedicated to children's books, they had a lot of outdated, ripped up, toddler books on their shelves. Not to mention how unorganized their books were. The lady working at the front desk of the children's section was rude and unhelpful when I asked for help finding the boardbooks. And I ended up walking down every aisle to find boardbooks lodged in between paperback books here and there.

Came here today for a change of scenery and a quiet environment to work on final exams. This place…read moreis nice, but I don't know what the architects were thinking when they decided on high ceilings. This place is a giant echo chamber. There is so much noise here. Even the receptionist at the information desk was loud when she was talking to a resident. She didn't even try to speak quietly. People can be heard laughing and carrying on, the sound of phones ringing and beeping from scanning books can be heard from the other side of the building. Not an ideal place to come if you are looking for silence. I am astounded by how many people come into a library and do not bother to turn their cell phones on silent. Every few minutes I was hearing someone's phone ring. As I sat in the computer area, almost every person who sat around me had their cell phone on. They do have a really nice children's section, but it would help if they closed the doors so you can't hear the children carrying on from the other side of the library.

This library seriously needs to be updated. It still looks the same since at least the 80s. With budget cuts, the library is closed a lot at night and weekends. Sad. The best thing about E.P. library is there monthly book sale. People donate so often, that there are always new things to look at. Plus, it's like Black Friday. People line up in the cold and run to grab as many books as possible. Watch out for the creeps who have the scanners to check for resale value. Not cool to block aisles or build stacks of books 20 deep. Some of us actually like to read them.

My daughter really likes this library and has the chance to play on computers and pick out all types of books to read. The librarians are helpful when you are looking for a particular book and would look up in their system to see if the book is available in other libraries close by if you really need the book. Its not the biggest library in Philly, but it still has a nice amount of reading materials, CDs, and movies to choose from to take home.

If you aren't too picky, don't require a huge selection/variety of books and are looking to get in and out quickly this location will work for you.

I have lived back in the northeast again for about 4 years. This is the first time I recall being back to this library in almost 20 years. Not much has changed. Very spacious. Big selection. I didn't use the library portion today. I went because I was in the area, and wanted to look if they had any free books or ones on the discount 1.00 racks. I found several good ones in mostly good condition. I recommend this library, even if you don't live directly in the area. It's much bigger than many of the other libraries in the northeast.

Even though I was impressed with how beautiful the old building was and how well stocked the shelves were with books, that was not why I was there. Me and my husband had made an appointment to get our passports processed. I made a appointment a few weeks ago (online) for 5pm. We were there a few minutes early, so the young lady at the desk told us to have a seat. Sure enough at 5pm exactly another young lady comes out (forgot to get her name) and goes over all our paperwork. She was very precise, making sure every line was filled out correctly. I didn't need my birth certificate, because I had a old passport (that had expired), but my husband needed his, since it was his first time getting one. The cost is $130 per person for the passport. An additional $35 per person to the Jenkintown Library for their processing fee. They only take personal checks or money orders. That's right!, no cash or credit cards. You also need to have your picture taken (before you get there) at a place that takes passport photos. I had mine taken at Staples for $14.99. All in all the appointment went pretty smooth after filling out the paperwork. They made us feel welcome and I would highly recommend the Jenkintown Library for your passport needs.
