Perry Township Community Center - Beautiful outdoor covered veranda, makes for a fantastic wedding reception venue!

This was a beautiful community center, and an excellent choice to host a wedding I recently…read moreattended. The building appears to be fairly new, with very neutral decor that is appealing for a variety of events. The bathrooms are big and immaculate. The real winner at this venue is it's large covered outdoor patio that has direct, expansive views of Lake Erie. I'd definitely recommend this place to host an event.

The problems encountered had to do entirely with the requirement to hire two off-duty Lake County Sheriff Deputies at $28 an hour each. This is not unreasonable since alcohol would be served. However, both deputies did nothing put remain seated at a table in the foyer using their smart phones until their contracted time (5 hours) was nearing expiration. After "Last Call" both men barged into the kitchen and demanded the bar be shut down stating that 'No alcohol could be served after their departure AND that no alcohol could remain on the premises either.' When asked about the source of this regulation I was referred to specifications in the Perry Township Community Center contract. Since I did not have one available at that time, we hurriedly removed all forms of alcoholic beverages from the tables and hands of our guests, disposing of all down the sinks' drains. The following week I contacted the Sheriff's Department of Lake County, collected the names of the two deputies, and spoke with their supervisor, who affirmed the actions of the deputies, but referred to the Ohio Revised Code. During another two week exploration of Perry Township Community Center contract language, as well as the legal code of Perry Village, Lake County and the state of Ohio, I was unable to locate any regulation referring to anything but the SERVING of alcohol. Its CONSUMPTION was not mentioned at all. Recently, after speaking with persons that attended our reception and one held at the same location with the same contract just one month previously had no such requirement to remove the alcohol from the premises. So, what IS the story? With a guest list of 135 persons, we had to pour a lot of glasses of wine and bottles of beer down the drain. Someone needs to clarify the contract, specifically stating what is both accurate and can be justified by a legal code. Because of the confusion an otherwise fun event ended with an unfair, perhaps unnecessary and unjustified declaration by the authority figures hired only to "keep the peace," according to the Supervisor.
