Of course there is security!! This week happened to be Black history month. They had (6) black artists perform beautiful songs. The entire service is designed with song& guitar , and the entire congratulation joining together. This is the most inclusive & heart warming experience I have EVER had in my life. The chairs are open sit to anyone, unlike some places where your name is on your chair, & guests are sited on metal chairs on the side. Someone realized that I was sited on my own, and immediately, she came over & offered to sit me upfront, with other people, so that I will not feel alone. This is a white glove experience!!!!! Will never forget it.

NEWS RELEASE Former Temple Beth El Donor Seeks Answers…read moreRegarding $100,000 Naming Rights Donation South Florida, FL Richard Tauman is seeking answers from Temple Beth El regarding a $100,000 charitable donation made by his late parents, Harvey and Ilene Tauman, in connection with naming rights for a portion of the Temple's Social Hall. Over the years, Harvey and Ilene Tauman contributed more than $1 million to Jewish charities and causes throughout South Florida. In the late 1990s, Harvey Tauman served as a volunteer Vice President of Temple Beth El. According to Tauman, Rabbi Merle Singer approached his father regarding a $100,000 donation in exchange for naming rights to a portion of the Temple's Social Hall. Tauman says the South County Jewish Federation also published a 1992 press announcement recognizing his parents and their donation. According to Richard Tauman, his parents made a $100,000 donation, but the promised naming rights and plaque were never provided. This past summer, Tauman visited the Temple and discovered that the naming recognition had still not been installed. He contacted the Temple and spoke extensively with Director of Development Craig Sumberg, who Tauman says researched the matter and spoke with former Temple President Herb Gimelstob. Tauman says he was told that Gimelstob recalled details concerning the transaction and that the Temple had documentation relating to the donation. Tauman further states that he was told the naming opportunity had subsequently been sold multiple times since his parents became members of Temple Beth El in 1986. Tauman requested that the Temple either honor the original naming agreement or return the $100,000 donation with interest. According to Tauman, the Temple subsequently disputed that the donation had been made, declined his request for reimbursement, and retained two law firms in connection with the dispute. Tauman says he was also threatened with legal action. Tauman has since submitted complaints to relevant federal and Florida government agencies and has requested investigations into the matter, including an IRS review of the Temple's nonprofit tax status. "I am not looking to create a controversy. I am asking for accountability and for the Temple to honor the commitment that was made to my parents," said Tauman. "My parents supported Temple Beth El and Jewish causes throughout South Florida for decades. I believe their donation and the agreement surrounding it deserve to be properly acknowledged and addressed." Tauman says he has documents relating to the donation and the naming agreement and is prepared to provide supporting documentation to members of the media upon request. The club is 2 1/2 months older than the incorporation of the city of Ft. Lauderdale. A 135 by 100 foot lot was donated by Ft. Lauderdale pioneers Frank and Ivy Stranahan. Ivy was a school teacher and a very civic minded person. She was involved in African-American, women's and Native American's rights, as well as the first chapter of the Audubon Society and the Red Cross. The Seminole's would paddle up the New River in their canoes and trade with the Stranahan's for the good's they couldn't grow. Ivy would use use her school teacher background the educate the Seminole's when they visited. Ivy served as president of Women's Club from 1913 until 1916. The name of the group was changed to Fort Lauderdale Women's Club in 1913. They took on many of the projects needed to improve the town like adding streetlights. In 1912 the club started the first volunteer fire department with a donation of $100. The clubhouse was designed by noted architect August Geiger in a Mediterranean Revival Style. Building began in 1916 and finished in 1917, their clubhouse was the community's first library. Located at Broward and Andrews Avenue it is in the center of the City of Ft. Lauderdale that grew up around it. Today the Women's Club continues to partner with non profits in the community like Broward Outreach, Children in Distress, and the Wildlife Care Center. They also give scholarships to high school students. In order to pay for the upkeep of the house the club rents it out for community functions and weddings. The clubhouse is surrounded by beautiful gardens, In recent years the club has struggled with keeping the downtown homeless population from destroying the property. A large fence now surrounds what used to be an open park.

The Cornell Art Museum is located at Old School Square off Atlantic Ave. in downtown Delray Beach…read more They ask for a $5 donation. There were 2 floors of beautiful crafts & art. The large gift shop had a lot to choose from at different prices. We came for the Wine Down event happening right in front of the Delray Affair in April. Wine, beer & soft drinks were available for purchase & I got to unwind & explore the exhibits. The WineDown will be open Friday & Saturday from 12-6 PM and Sunday from 12-5 PM. Proceeds benefit the Delray Beach Chamber of Commerce & the Cornell Museum.

Last week, everything came together and we were finally able to stop by the museum after a nearby lunch. The museum is located on the corner of Atlantic Avenue and Swinton. We've passed by many time going east on the avenue. There is metered parking on the side streets. The museum is in the hundred year old plus Delray School House. We entered and were greeted by the docent/volunteer. She told us a little about the building's history and which classrooms were originally located where before the remodeling was done. She also told us that they have no permanent exhibits, and that all the art work in the building was for sale. If you were interested in buying something, you should inquire about the price of the piece in the museum store. The first floor was occupied with works by the American artist, Dorothy Gillespie. Although she was a painter, she also worked in many different media. She was well known for her creative, colorful metal works of art. One quote compares her level of metal craft and skill as equal to Chihuly and his glassworks. On the second floor -- yes, there is a big staircase, but we took the elevator from inside the gift shop/store -- are works by Chilean-born Gustavo Novoa. Approximately 30 paintings show colorful, luxurious jungle scenes with animals. The volunteer said his art reminded her of the lushness of Gauguin's paintings. On second floor, there is also an exhibit of mosaics from a Mexican school. They are portraits of famous people -- actors, singers, etc. You will recognize most of them. The tiny pieces are put together in intricate patterns to form the faces. In some of them, they incorporate other materials -- like a piece of jewelry as a broach, leather as clothing, etc. They are fascinating to view up close first and then step back to see the overall portrait. The exhibits rotate periodically. The museum entrance is free, but there is a suggested donation of $5 per person which we happily paid. I'm glad we finally got a chance to visit.

The Junior League of Boca Raton is a wonderful organization to get involved in. After being an…read moreactive sorority member in college, I felt the need to get back involved in the community again post graduation so I joined the Junior League. The League gives you a multitude of ways to volunteer to help different organizations that deal with sectors such as children's welfare and fighting hunger. The League donates needed resources and thousands of volunteer hours to various non-profits in the area. As a first year active member, I meet someone new at almost every volunteer shift, training, or event I attend. There are numerous leadership opportunities as well. As with any organization, you get out as much as you put in. I'm very happy I joined the JLBR and would highly recommend it to any woman who is looking to improve herself!
