As a consumer, I left a truthful review of my experience with him in his capacity as a real estate agent. In retaliation, Mr. Rodriguez posted a one-star Google review of my business under the name "Longhorn," despite never having any business relationship with my business. He was never a customer, client, or recipient of any services. He later posted the identical review on Yelp under his own name, identifying himself as the author of both reviews. A review from someone who has never done business with the business they are reviewing is misleading to the public and, in my opinion, inconsistent with the ethical and professional standards expected of Texas real estate license holders. His review was not based on any experience with my business but instead followed my truthful review of him. I immediately contacted the sponsoring broker, expecting leadership to investigate the conduct of her agent. Instead, I was told, "Uh, hon, we got all six of your emails. I sent them on, but whoever handles this won't get to it this weekend." I explained that every day the false review remained online caused additional damage because prospective customers rely on online reviews when deciding whether to do business with us. As I fought back tears over the damage being done to my business, the broker's response was not to address her agent's conduct but to tell me to stop being emotional. Rather than acknowledging the seriousness of an agent retaliating against someone by reviewing a business with which he had no relationship, she chose to criticize my reaction to the harm her agent had caused. Leadership is measured by accountability. Instead of taking a serious complaint against one of her agents seriously, the sponsoring broker minimized my concerns while the false review remained publicly visible. That level of leadership and consumer accountability was deeply disappointing.
