Firstly, my car is perfect - brought online/phone without a test drive, yet 100% what they said it was. But you care about the business: I'm only buying from them from now on because the prices are very fair, they are honest about the cars, and provide great service (including delivery anywhere in NZ!). I dealt with Dean mainly (also Richard) but the whole place is professional business - focused on high turnover and getting repeat customers. All/most cars are AA tested - better than any test drive, so far as I am concerned. Their starting prices are fair market rate and don't have hidden extras. I check NZ wide and their cars are around the same price as auction/private sales - plus you get consumer protection. They do knock the prices down further, but don't expect too much unless it hasn't sold for a while. The best thing was the service - it was just like a new car dealers - for example, Dean organised a towbar to be added (only $550 including the safety inspection) and delivery (Au to PN overnight for just $330!).

But when the office needs to shop for new Caddy's for the technicians, then only new will do. We've made use of the VW Caddy's, as they are low in cost, and effective as a technician's work vehicle. We normally buy from Tristram European, as they give excellent service, look after the vehicle maintenance, and always offer a competitive buy back offer. As for my personal taste; they do cater for those looking for upmarket second hand cars, so it is a win win for all. I liked the good service, test drive options and the range of vehicles available. Extremely overpriced service and poor communication…read more After hearing great things about Scott Baird Automotive from family and friends, I was extremely disappointed with the two car Services I received this year. For the first service (my partners car), I asked that if there were any issues with the car, these would be quoted before they proceeded with remedying them. I was contacted later by Scott who said there were issues, and made it seem like he had already remedied them but did not discuss any pricing or cost of this, so I assumed they were minor. When I arrived to pick up my car, I was charged far more than what was inferred as the 'genuine' parts ordered were purchased directly from the manufacturer. Apparently this brief phone call was confirmation of my agreement to proceed with remedying these significant issues, when it was vague and communicated poorly. I decided to give Scott Baird Automotive a second chance for my car given the good things I had heard about them (big mistake). On this occassion I only received a standard car service (Oil and Filter Change + minor works and ensuring car was up to spec) and was charged $250 labour for 2 hours work, $400 all up. Furthermore, they will only install 'genuine' parts that are ordered directly from the manufacturer (in my case Honda) who charge excessive rates for their parts, so you're better off going straight to your car manufacturer for your service if you are going to pay a premium anyway. Only reason for 2 stars is for the work they carried out was up to a high standard and Scott came across as genuine, but their labour and service costs are extremely overpriced and poor value for money.

I have had all problems associated with my car over the years fixed, without any recurring issues. My car often ends up cleaner than it was after the service. I am consulted before any repairs are made and effort is made to source the best value parts. Loan cars are available with all staff at the business very friendly and keen to help. I have had problems fixed by just turning up and they immediately have helped and solve the issue without cost. They are in a great location of Glen Innes if in the Eastern Suburbs and are close enough also if further south-east.
