Re: ELLIS County Red Oak Police Department…read more Yesterday, I called the non-emergency hotline to report what I believed was an abandoned car that had been parked in front of my house for three days. An officer came out and informed me that the vehicle belonged to a neighbor. He also stated that they didn't have to move it because it was parked the required distance from the road. When I asked whose car it was, he said he couldn't share that information--which I understand. I had assumed the car was abandoned because it was blocking my driveway and no one had returned to move it in 3 days. While I realize the road is public property, I felt the officer could have at least encouraged the neighbor to be more considerate and move their car as a courtesy. Our road is narrow, and it's difficult to get out of my driveway when cars are parked that way. Since the officer made it clear they didn't have to move the car, I decided to speak with the neighbor myself since this is not acceptable. Fortunately, we were able to resolve the issue directly to have the car moved. Situations like this are exactly why people end up taking matters into their own hands. The interaction with me and my neighbor could have resulted in a situation that could have become volatile. However, this experience left me feeling that calling the police was useless and unhelpful--I don't plan on calling them again. It seems they have quite a few racist complaints but you have to dig for them because they do not allow complaints on google or etc.

The Marvin College historical marker stands in front of what used to be the college but is now…read moreMarvin Elementary School. I was not able to get a decent angle to see the astronomical observatory because of traffic lights and trees. I'm sure the interior is pretty cool but it was closed on this late afternoon. The marker is at the intersection of College Street and Marvin Avenue. There is no nearby legal parking. The marker reads, "The Northwest Texas Conference, Methodist Episcopal Church South, built a college named for Bishop E.M. Marvin at the site in 1870-71. Waxahachie Methodists and others gave land, services, and money to develop the college. Distinctions were attained in music and chemistry teaching. The astronomical observatory was an outstanding feature. The enrollment reached about 250. Financially troubled, the college stressed practical studies in the 1880s, but closed in 1884. The City of Waxahachie then bought the property and used it to house its original public school." [Review 16072 overall - 253 in Texas - 1577 of 2021.]

Richardson (1839-1922), county surveyor, Mason, and veteran of the 12th Texas Confederate Cavalry, married Ann Elizabeth Reagor (1849-1923) in 1865. Both were descendants of the family for which Reagor Springs was named. A cousin, Robert S. Reagor, was buried on the Richardsons' property in 1879. In 1890 the land was deeded for use as a cemetery. Also buried here are two of the Richardsons' six children. The Richardsons left Reagor Springs near the turn of the century. Other early area families also are buried in the cemetery, which contains thirty graves. Those interred in the Richardson Cemetery helped to forge Reagor Springs and early Ellis County." Screams is the halloween event the ren-fair puts on during spooky season…read more While the haunts themselves are not the best we've been too we appreciate screams for being a place you can genuinely spend an entire evening. Once you are inside, you can visit the 5 haunts inside as often as you want or are able to for the evening. They make use of the fairs food stops & shops to give folks a place to shop, grab a bite or enjoy some drinks while there. I do recommend getting there close to opening and spending as much time as you can there to get the most bang for your buck. As well, try to go earlier in the Halloween season as lines get longer & crowds larger as it gets closer to actual Halloween. If you absolutely have to go closer to Halloween or Halloween weekend then you might want to spring for VIP, though going opening weekend it's a waste to get vip cause the lines are short. Also stop to watch the hell dolls show! I think it was around 8pm & 10pm the night we went; but check when you are there to be sure.

At least their website makes the address and their open/close dates very clear.
