While it's true that I did suffer from some child abuse, Marsha attempted to uncover memories that I was unaware of by the use of hypnosis. She kept digging and digging by asking leading questions to try to recover more memories that she thought I had forgotten. During this extremely emotional process, she attempted to persuade me to create, what is known as "false memories" Please google what this is and how easily this is done. She even got a group therapy member to create additional false memories of "satanic ritual abuse". Please also google. This type of abuse was disproven years ago, which proves that false memories of this type were created by some therapists. Ms Hyman creates a dependency on her, and like the previous reviewer makes you think you'll need many, many years of treatment from her. She has an inflated confidence in herself and unfortunately she has a reputation that needs to be questioned. She caused me to question my ability to trust myself. Fortunately I gave up on her, and have recovered my self confidence over the years. Anyway, I'm glad I could share my experience on Yelp in the hope that you can avoid her dangerous so called "therapy"

She always makes sure to check to monitor my physical and mental health and adjusts my medication accordingly if needed. More importantly, a good psychiatrist possesses a unique set of qualities, including wisdom, insight, empathy, and social intelligence. A good psychiatrist is also likable, with excellent people skills, forming strong, intimate, and therapeutic relationships with patients while observing appropriate boundaries. They have a deep understanding of humanity and an extraordinary ability to relate to all types of people. Dr. Bernadette is all of these and more. The teachers I encountered have no compassion or professionalism. The after 5pm teacher confronted me in the middle of class in front of the other children and teacher about why my daughter didn't follow instructions. Please note I have never met this teacher, she did not introduce herself to me and my child shouldn't have been in that classroom to begin with because arrived at 4:45pm, the children are moved here after from 5pm-6pm for pickup. The director encouraged me to have my child Evaluated by her doctor because she doesn't make eye contact with her (keep in mind she spent little time with my daughter because she was filling in for one of the teachers assigned to my daughter class who left early because she was sick) am not someone that can not take criticism or feedback about their child, but I find it extremely egregious to only spend 2 days with a child who is also 2 years old in a new environment with new people and classmates and suggest that there is something medically wrong with them. My daughter was given no acclamation period and no sympathy. I emailed them a notice to withdraw and never heard back from them. The app they use was not updated accurately, there were pictures posted on my daughters profile that did not include her in the picture. I wasn't notified that she peed on herself or that she didn't eat her lunch. The tour I was given was false advertisement and I would not suggest enrolling your kids here.

"My friend" (ahem, right) went through a pretty rough period and ended up seeing a few therapists in the past year. When "my friend" (let's call her Julie) first met Laura, she honestly thought Laura was a bit kooky... in a good way! She wasn't too impressed that Laura was perpetually running 15 minutes late, but they always have the latest magazines in the waiting room, so why not. Despite seeing a few therapists in the past year, Julie was actually somewhat in denial that she needed clinical therapy. While not seeing vast improvement (what does that look like anyway?), she continued seeing Laura because her employer was footing the bill and because she finds her amusing. One day, after an especially low point, Julie found herself making a last-minute appointment with Laura on a Monday afternoon. After a short "typical therapy talk" (which is usually about how you feel, how work / relationship / kids / other stressor is affecting you this week, etc), Julie (who is typically very level-headed) found herself crying her eyes out in Laura's office for reasons she couldn't really understand. Somehow, Laura was able to make sense of all these crazy emotions and articulate them back in a powerful, encouraging way. New York is a crazy place to live in and I love how it constantly pushes you to live outside of your comfort zone, but sometimes, you need a safe, objective place to help you make sense of what you're going through, to help you understand the emotions you're suppressing, and to redirect the toxic thoughts that make you feel like you're constantly behind enemy lines when you're alone. Laura is an amazing therapist who is, first and foremost, compassionate (but not in the touchy-feely coddling way). She asks really objective, pointed questions that help you remove your own biases in viewing the situation that you're in. She can see through your bullshit and excuses, and will help you see through them too. What I love about her is that she doesn't just say the right thing. In fact, she's said some pretty kooky things that made me raise an eyebrow or two... But that's part of the fun. You know she's always genuine that when she says, "My money's on you, girl. You can do this," you know she really means it... and sometimes you just need someone to care and believe in you, when you forgot how to care or believe in yourself. Anyway, enough with the touchy-feely stuff, let's get back to food and bar reviews. If you're in need of a moderately priced, high-quality therapist/emotional coach who is also part psychic and part fairy godmother, you should see Laura.
