Back in early 2024, I went in for a consultation, and the dentist recommended a crown for my implant. He took measurements, and we scheduled a follow-up appointment. However, the very next day, I changed my mind, called the office, cancelled the appointment, and specifically told them not to send anything to the lab. The staff confirmed the cancellation over the phone. Still unsure, I proactively contacted my insurance provider to explain what happened and asked them to cancel any pending authorizations for Gental Dental -- except for that single initial visit. Fast forward over a year later, and I receive a letter from a collections agency for $1,800+ claiming I owe Gental Dental for a crown that I never received. When I called the clinic to dispute it, they falsely claimed the crown was done and I never called to cancel, even though I never set foot in that office again after the first visit. They said they would "check with the doctor and call me back" -- of course, no one ever did. Today, when I followed up for the third time, the front desk staff was shockingly rude, dismissive, and condescending. They repeatedly spoke over me, refused to listen, and ultimately told me to "deal with the collections agency" . No apology, no accountability, and zero professionalism. Not only is the office outdated and the staff consistently rude, but what they're doing is flat-out dishonest. They tried to bill my insurance for a procedure that was never done, and when the claim was denied (as it should've been), they turned around and sent me to collections -- hoping I wouldn't fight it. It's appalling that a dental practice -- especially one run by a doctor who's supposedly close to retirement -- would stoop to this level of greed and deception. This is not just bad service, it's unethical and predatory behavior. Do yourself a favor and stay far away from this place.

I had previously visited another surgeon who was overcharging simply because they knew the pain I was in, but thankfully, I found Riverside. Dr. Richer was hilarious, made me feel completely comfortable, and gave a detailed explanation of my X-rays. The entire staff at Riverside was just as kind and funny, which truly made the whole experience so much better--especially for something as unpleasant as wisdom tooth surgery. When I went in for my procedure, they even gave me a free shirt, which was both hilarious and thoughtful. After surgery, they provided a head wrap and an ice pack, adding to the overall wonderful experience. Small touches like these really matter and show the level of care and thought Riverside puts into their patients. This is day two after surgery, and shockingly, I feel better than when I first went in. I highly recommend Riverside to anyone needing oral surgery. Thanks again, Dr. Richer and the entire team!

The surgeon did discuss what he planned to do, so it doesn't seem it was a "something came up during surgery" deal, but several things were not listed on the treatment plan we signed with a price. My husband was told to take Tylenol and Ibuprofen after having impacted wisdom teeth removed which was the anestheisologist's decision to be fair. When I called the office because he was considering the ER due to the pain, a nurse, over the phone, insisted it could not be dry socket. She did not see my husband, is not the physician, and felt it was appropriate to give medical advice over the phone. I requested he see another surgeon in a different location (same practice). It was dry socket. The surgeon in West Orange was fantastic. The communication in West Caldwell left a lot to be desired. After the correct antibiotic was given and he was treated for the complication, we thought we were all clear. We went on with our lives and then received a bill the other day for just under $1200. I spoke with billing, I spoke with the office, and honestly, legal fees would be more expensive. I understand "things happen in surgery" and if our insurance covered this we might not have to pay it, but we couldn't ask insurance if it was covered because it was not what we signed up for. I honestly do not feel it was a change, because he mentioned a bone graft being part of the plan all along. I do not recommend the West Caldwell office. This was such a disaster and we finally could breathe and now we can't again. I would recommend the West Orange office. Dr. Brown in West Orange was excellent, and the surgeon our dentist requested him to see in the paperwork he sent over. I only wrote down the name of the office, not the surgeon he recommended so that was ignored on the paperwork when Riverside received it. The surgeons are fine, the West Caldwell office doesn't have it together so be prepared to do their job while you pay them far more than you agreed to.

The office itself is a nice blend of professional, warmth, and old school (not dated) - not the cold, post industrial norm for medical offices. In the 2 decades I've visited Dr Rizzo, I've met his mother, wife and 2 boys working there at one time or another. Those encounters cemented the "family" bond in his practice and affirmed our family's confidence and great comfort in faithfully returning for all of our dental needs. From appearances, patients are treated like an extension of family.
