Everything started great, they even had my favorite beer Schmidtwick's. The food was delish and presented well. Our server was attentive and kind. The place was neat and clean, great for a mtg... The general manager came over and chitchatted with our table. I was the one who called the meeting, I chose the place via Yelp reviews. However, when the GM found out it was all three of our first time he proceeded to hand out his card. The guy that met me there was handed one, then my son who lives in Irvine was handed one. However, when I reached my hand out, he hesitated. I told him we don't live together (speaking of my son who was sitting next to me) and he started to hand it to me, but then pulled it back. He informed me it's in case we come back... funny, our topic of conversation that day was how hard it was for women growing up in my era and working their way up the ladder... how times have changed. Upon leaving, my guest laughed and said his wife would've gone ballistic at how the only woman at the table was treated. The GM appeared to look like we were the same age. I was quite insulted by his behavior. I hope something can be learned for my honest review. I did get a card, but I don't think I'll be back.

The restaurant is located on the right side of huge Santo Tomas wine shop. Covelli has a nice little indoor dining area (very romantic) and a huge covered outdoor dining area. Our server was super nice and spoke english, but we told him to speak spanish to us so we can practice more and he was very sweet about it. He sat us at a cute and romantic wine barrel table with high chairs, decorated with a rose and he even brought out a candle and lit it for us. The menu is simple, 3 pages, mostly pizzas. On the back page of the menu are the drinks and appetizers. We ordered a glass of sangrias each and a cheese plate. The sangria is more like tinto de verano (which is red wine with lemon juice) and the cheese plate is queso fresco, olives and a bunch of oven baked toast with a garlic butter spread. it also comes with shredded cheese and a sour green sauce and a spicy red sauce. Our bill came out to about $10 with the current exchange rate! The service was excellent, food and drinks were delicious, we had such a wonderful experience here!

The sangria is amazing, and made inhouse. When we first started coming we were planning our wedding and we liked it so much we decided to have our engagement dinner here! Their chorizo appetizer is one of my favorite dishes ever, full of flavor and made by the owner so it is always fresh. The owners are incredibly hospitable and the service is always fantastic.

For those in the know, the Valle can produce some over ripe wines. But the owner here does a good job of screening out those lesser wines and provides a good selection for the wine enthusiast if not the sommelier. Prices are also very reasonable and they have a good selection of beer as well if you happen to come with people who prefer the beer craft. I would definitely come back. I am taking bottles home. Not a bad place to pick up wine if you can't make it to the Valle!

Lots of Valle de Guadalupe wines and also imports -- many of the imports are done by mexican winemakers living abroad. There are two locations, this location (2511 Jalisco) is open till 10pm most nights so it's the place for going out in the evening/night. The other location closes earlier. Highly recommend this business if you're a wine nerd in TJ.

We ordered the deviled eggs, which turned out to be hard-boiled eggs sliced in half with a piece of ham placed on top. When you order deviled eggs, you generally expect, well... the eggs to actually be deviled. We mentioned our disappointment to the bartender, who was wonderful, engaging, and genuinely enjoyable to talk with. The explanation was that this is simply their interpretation of deviled eggs. Fair enough, but it wasn't an interpretation that worked for us. Ironically, the standout dish of the evening was the pigs in blankets, which is not a sentence I ever expected to write about an upscale wine bar. They were delicious, but they also raised the question of why the rest of the menu wasn't reaching the same level. Looking back, we realized we were the only people actually eating while everyone else was there for the wine. In hindsight, that should have been the clue. I only wish someone had mentioned that before we made the trip over expecting a tapas experience. Gata has so much potential. The atmosphere is lovely, the wine selection is excellent, and the staff were fantastic. If the small plates eventually rise to the level of the wine program, this place could be truly special.
