Brought my Vehicle in for a AC recharge was quoted the day before drop off a price of 200 to 250 .00 I questioned the increased price had same service done in 2023 was 150.00 they stated prices have gone up. Labor in 2023 was 65.00 took an hour. 2025 same hour labor 178.80 labor . I guess working honestly became that much harder . I will never go here again. read more

I brought my vehicle in for a simple muffler replacement ( I had the muffler) I got a call 25 minutes later, saying it was ready. I was impressed until I saw the bill! They socked me for $129.99! I'm done with Ely Auto. Would not recommend!! read more

Long story short. He took advantage of new people in town. 1300 alternator! The next day major sqweeling from right front. The owner said yes that's where I did work at, bring in and we will figure out. My husband and I sat for an hour and a half. Only for them to come in and say they found nothing wrong. An HOUR AND A HALF. Something was wrong, his kid he had working with him told my husband and I to be quiet. The owner refused to say anything was wrong. Well we found a TRUE, HONEST mechanic and he redid entire work. Another 600 to fix what Ely auto messed up. It was old belt, charged us for new belt( we were given by good mechanic to show age of belt) and cooling system drain!? Which has nothing to do with alternator. And charged us. Even 5bucks for washer fluid that we never asked for. These people are RUDE, and do not back up their work. Take advantage if your from out of town. Very dishonest, poster child for GETTING SCREWED OVER. I have to give 1 star to post this. It should be a negative 1 star read more

So I read several other reviews about Ely Auto services. Apparently this business fixed a tourists broken trailer wheel and didn't charge the people for the repair telling them to "pay it forward ". Pay it forward? Hypocrites! I was charged $375 for a tow after getting stuck about 125 yards onto the ice road on Shagawa Lake while I was just trying to get to work caring for a client that is in his end of life stage on the other side of the lake. I literally had tears streaming down my face as I handed my friend my rent money to go pay for the tow. I need my vehicle to get to both of my jobs, the repair estimate was $2600! That's 3K total! OMG! I already work 3 jobs, I still cannot afford 3K for a rear control arm broken and a tow that took less than an hour to do. So Mark C. with your beautiful story on Yelp in regards to such great service from this business, I am the one paying for your repair, they charge the local person 300× the actual cost to be able to give you freebies. I was in Ely for the deer hunting season, and I backed into a sharp rock and it punched a big hole in the sidewall of the passenger side rear tire on my Mitsu Outlander Sport. No one else in town had a used tire that would fit (225-55-R18), but Ely Auto Services did. I swapped the flat tire for the cheater spare and drove into town. Ely Auto Services sold me a good used tire, mounted and balanced it, and then swapped it onto the car, placing the cheater spare back into the trunk. The total charge, including the purchase price of the good used tire? $20! To be honest, for the first time ever, I felt a little guilty as I drove away, for paying so little. read more

We were driving through Ely, visiting from out of town and hauling our camper, when our newly purchased muffler became detached. We looked up the nearest auto shop, found Ely Auto Services, and headed over. It was clearly a very busy day but they found time to squeeze us in. My boys and I waited in the cleanest, most comfortable waiting room with the cutest puppy, Charlie, to entertain us and love. Before too long we learned that the muffler had been re-attached and we were set to continue our vacation. Ely Auto Services refused payment and Amy sent us on our way with the message to simply pay it forward. The small town goodness we experienced here in Ely was one of the highlights of our wonderful vacation Up North. We look forward to paying it forward now that we are back home in Minneapolis. This is a great place if you need work done while in Ely. My son took his truck off into a place he shouldn't have and did in the tranny. The guys here took good care of him and fast. They had him back in his truck in under a five days, and for a price much better than I thought posible. There waiting room is clean and comfortable, and they explain everything before they start work. read more
