We went to Teotihuacán which was about a 45 minute drive. During the drive, Leo gave us a quick history lesson about the pyramids and the different gods. It's a quick prep to the tour once you get to the sites. (Just a friendly reminder, wear sunblock! I forgot and my shoulders are still burning haha). After the tour, which you will learn SO much, Leo took us to a small shop where you learn more about tools that were used back in the day, a quick mezcal tasting, then shopping. Lastly, we dropped by and had a meal at one of the little restaurants nearby. Our second tour with Leo was to Coyoacán, Frida's Casa Azul, and Xochimilco. This was so fun! Tickets to the Frida museum aren't included, but Leo will still give you some history about Frida and her life (would hate to ruin it for you, but she had a very sad life and Diego ain't shit lmao). After the museum, Leo picked us up and we headed to the embarcadero to get on our trajinera. This was the best part! Leo comes prepared to make it a good time! He has a great speaker and you can DJ what you want to listen to, but is also respectful if you want to hire some of the musicians that pull up. All in all, if you can, book all tours with Leo! You will not be disappointed! He's very professional, accommodating, great sense of humor, knowledgeable, and his English is great. We had an even better time since we were able to joke in both English and Spanish with him. We definitely left Mexico City with a new friend!

I typically stay at Marriott properties, so when planning this trip, I immediately looked for options under that umbrella. My first choice was sold out, but Le Méridien seemed like a solid alternative -- and overall, it was. We booked a one-bedroom suite, and I was pleasantly surprised by how spacious it was -- perfect for four women traveling together. Our flight was extremely delayed, but we called ahead to let them know. The staff was kind, and our room was ready upon arrival. Check-in was quick and easy, which I appreciated after a long travel day. The only consistent issue was with housekeeping. It seemed they weren't informed there were four guests in the room, as we never had enough towels. We had to call daily for extras, and washcloths were never provided. I understand that may not be standard everywhere, but it would have been great if they noted our previous requests so we didn't have to keep calling. The hotel has everything you might need on-site -- a Starbucks, bar, gym, pool, and business center. Super convenient. However, the property feels outdated, from the rooms to the lobby and common areas. It could really benefit from a refresh to match the quality of the service and the price point. While the décor could use a major facelift, the friendly staff, great location, and large suite made for a comfortable stay. I'd stay here again, especially if they update the rooms and modernize the space a bit.

It really is the ideal starting point to get to now and explore the capitol of Mexico. It's a block away from the British Embassy and a few blocks away from the famed Paseo de la Reforma. If you're into churros, the very popular Churreria El Moro is a brisk 5 minute walk away. The hotel itself is really like a home away from home or being invited to a close relative's house. Very welcoming and adorned like a nice cottage. It does not feel commercial at all but rather like you're staying a guest house. The blue and white decor of the buildings has a very Santorini feel. You walk into this hacienda of separate homes almost. There's a lovely garden area which gives you a nice bit of tranquility away from the hustle and bustle of the city. They really try to create a peaceful oasis with the fountains and patios. Our individual room was great. It had all the amenities we needed and made our stay both pleasant and comfortable. Our room was cozy and always made up the next day. One of the best parts about Hotel Casa Gonzalez is the excellent staff. The warm and friendly staff, quiet location, and cleanliness were all highlights of our stay here. When we needed a cup of coffee in the morning they were happy to brew it. When we needed any recommendations they went above and beyond to guide us. The hotel has a private gate and feels safe which is something reassuring especially for solo travelers. But actually the surrounding neighborhood is lively with tons of restaurants around and even a fruit cart right on the corner. For a great value and a comfortable stay, I'd come back to Hotel Casa Gonzalez the next time I'm in CDMX.

It's okay to charge high if your hotel is worth that amount. In this case, just take a look at the pictures. What made us move is that they don't have an iron or coffee in the room because they want you to use their laundry and kitchen service. This is standard for any hotel, specially at their price of $257 per night. Further, they don't have an air conditioner. The location is good, close to the Angel de Indepedencia. But,it was cheaper for us to stay at the Sheraton Isabella Maria, a Marriott hotel right next to the Angel. Not only was it cheaper ($193) per night but better location, amenities and world class experience. The Marriott hotels offer exceptional service. When businesses such as Hotel Casa Gonzalez make it a point to exploit the customer, that is bad business.
