It's a real community spot. The yarn selection ranges from standard go-tos like Berroco and Plymouth, to lovely stuff from Malabrigo and Juniper Moon Farm, to indie hand-dyes. The trend seems to be toward fashion colors and styles. I'm not exactly a fashionista myself, and I still find it easy to leave with creative choices. Especially because everyone there has been so willing to help me discover something I can't wait to knit or crochet up. Right now it's a super yummy pima cotton dk yarn I'm using for a shawl, and next up I have a cozy soft 100% recycled yarn for a cardigan. (And while prices at some LYSs can get scary sometimes, they seem to have really reasonable pricing.) PS: Parking in Union can be tough, but if the adjacent smaller lots are full, there's also a big municipal lot behind the Dollar Tree. (You can walk through for a shortcut! Buy yourself a soda!)

After starting a new job I treated myself and bought 2 new Medical White Coats for 100$ each. I…read morecalled ShortStop asking if they have ever/do embroidery for medical white coats and I was told yes. First off, when I got there I rang the bell as the sign said and waited inside. Despite multiple workers seeing me from the back I was completely ignored and idly stood there for awhile until a woman came out. I explained that I called and she gave me a paper to fill out with my information and what I wanted it to say. I even brought an old white coat as an example of exactly what needed to be done. I was told it would be 10$ each and it would be ready in a week. The woman seemed annoyed the entire time. I had to call 9 days later asking for an update about my jackets and was told that they had been ready, although no one called to notify me of such. When picking up the jackets once again we were left idly waiting in the front while workers saw and ignored us. Upon getting the jackets back I saw they were done incorrectly. Although spelled correctly the embroidery starts under the collar piece so my entire first name is not visible. As a medical provider that is what my patient's refer to me as and to have it covered is completely unacceptable. I understand that I have a long last name, but I was told that they know how to do it and have done it before. If they saw there was an issue they could have called me to notify me prior to doing it, and if they didnt know where to place it they could have googled it or even called me to confirm. I could have told them an alternate way to do it to ensure my name and profession was still visible. Upon calling them to notify them of their error the woman on the phone stated that they do white coats and chef's coats all the time and that they know not to start the embroidery under the collar, and she was not notified by a worker that there was an issue. She said that there is no way to fix it or remove the embroidery without damaging the coat and the best they can do is refund me the 20$. When my brother went to get the refund and show them the error the woman gave attitude and was rude and stated they no longer will be doing white coat embroidery. I am so upset that a gift to myself, 200$ worth of work uniform is now useless to me because of their error. That in conjunction with their poor customer service made me want to warn others prior to coming here.

Uptown made it happen by her deadline. The Uptown embroidery shop-Louis, and his assistant (who sits at the front desk) , were very patient and helpful and came through! Bag looks great and recipient was happy. What was most surprising was that they seemed give me the same attentive service as their high volume clients. Most places do not want to do just one item, but Uptown understands that if you're happy with one item, that you're coming back for future orders, and I will be back. If you're in need of screen printing, embroidery or any type of promo swag, with a reasonable turnaround (they also have an eye for design), don't hesitate. I start explaining what I want and he asks me if I am Mikey. I told him no, my name is not Mike, he says yes I am I am just talking with a fake accent. I was a little shocked, again I explain what I want and again he calls me Mikey. Again I explained to him, I am calling from a cell and I am sure he can see my name on the caller ID, he is mistaking me for someone. So he finally says that I am calling on behalf of Mikey. He finally tells me to hold, some lady picks up the phone. I explain to her the stitch work I am looking for, she says she doesn't do it and hangs up. I am not even sure where to begin, i am not sure how they stay in business.
