We hired Mr. Hanifin to deal with a violent squatter/hold-over in my home. He was happy to take…read moreseveral thousand dollars from us to prepare basic eviction paperwork, and to represent us in 1 brief court appearance (which he has another lawyer sub in for him with no explanation). During this time period, he was professional and respectful. He did misspell the squatter's name on court paperwork. Unfortunately, once the specific tasks that he could charge us for were behind us, he became a very different person. In the weeks between the court appearance and the actual eviction, he unraveled. He gave us erroneous advice on the postings I needed to make to the illegally occupied room (telling us we had significantly more time than we actually did). He messaged me to schedule the eviction WAY before I actually could, and acted confused but also completely uninterested in helping to figure out what I needed to do next to schedule the eviction with the Sherrif. The proverbial straw that broke this camel's back (and has led to this review), was when he dismissed the trauma I had been going through related to this matter with a self-righteous and dishonest email, describing having a violent squatter threatening to kill me as "a totally normal case" or something to that affect. This grotesque, arrogant message had a number of other inexplicably dismissive and insulting statements and insinuations that I won't detail in this post. In retrospect, it is painfully obviously that once he got all the money he could out of us, he was no longer interested in helping us in any way, even though the matter was far from resolved and we still desperately needed legal advice (and he was still our lawyer). Once he couldn't charge us for it (no more paperwork, court appearances), he became self-righteous and mean-spirited, but also demonstrated a basic lack of understanding as to the eviction process in Montgomery County and how to courts process and post information.
