The station officially opened on November 12, 1904 and the platform was lengthened in 1948 and then renovated in the late 20th century. The station is clean and reasonable well lit. We were able to find the stairway easily. The station has two side platforms and two tracks. The platforms have exits to Broadway's intersection with 157th street and are not connected to each other within fare control - there is no crossover or crossunder here between directions. The station is not handicapped accessible. The station is on the 1 line with the next northbound station being 168th Street towards 242nd Street and the next southbound station either 145th Street (for local trains) or 96th Street (for express trains) towards South Ferry. Each platform has one same-level fare control area near the middle. Both are fully staffed, containing a turnstile bank and token booth, and each has two street stairs.
