Propane Rip-Off !!!. You live and learn. I ran over to my local gas station where propane costs $3.19 per gallon INCLUDING tax. Their pump wasn't working, so went up to Emerald Gas Station where I figured the cost would be slightly less than my brand name gas station because they tout low prices for gas. WRONG !! Emerald charged me $4.59 per gallon PLUS tax. I had the food on the grill, so I had to bite the bullet. Cost me just short of $22 for 4.4 gallons. WHAT A RIP OFF. I won't be patronizing Emerald Gas again. For anything.... Regarding the coupon and exchange. Most 5 gallon tanks have over half a gallon of propane in them when they register as empty. When you exchange propane bottles at Emerald Gas, you pay for 5 gallons, and in exchange you gave them a 1/2 gallon that they gave you no credit for. BUYER BEWARE read more

I feel that this is definitely the place to go for gas in La Mesa. Very cheap gas, when the oil companies aren't being too greedy, they give away free things sometimes and I feel like they care, well as much as a gas station would care. Of course before I came here I looked on old yelp to see what others had to say about this place and most of was good. So it lead me here and I'm very happy that I did. RIP OFF!!!! Gas Buddies says the Cash price - ok. that's fine. i get that. Sign at the street says 14 CENTS MORE for credit!! REALLY? 14 CENTS?? That's CRAZY!! Pump is unclear as to if you use credit or debit if you have to pay the 50¢ card fee ALSO in addition to the high price or what. Or was the 50¢ just for debit and you get the cash price. or what. This is one of those places that you have to spend a certain amount if you use your bank/credit card, which always makes people unhappy. The people are nice, and helpful. The best part is they have some of the cheapest gas I have seen in San Diego, and they offer propane refill. read more

Yelped for propane refills and this place popped up for a propane refill special for $12.45 through Yelp which is great. I purchased, printed and headed down there. They honored the coupon and filled it up from my tank being totally empty (on fumes) . I noticed the gas prices were a bit cheaper too than other surrounding gas stations. I rarely go to any other gas station. They have the best gas prices in the area because they're not as "big business" as, say, Shell or 76. They've always got a copy of The Reader waiting for me, plenty of munchies and drinks, and the guys that work there are really nice. It's awesome to have around, especially since the other gas stations are so expensive (Emerald is usually 5-20 cents cheaper). read more

Very nice owner and a great deal through groupon for propane. That being said, I can't believe some of these bitter, whining people who have posted negative reviews. My wife showed up with a CURRENT coupon, was served promptly and courteously and then actually LOOKED at the price of gas to be sure it was the price she wanted to pay (it was) and then filled her tank with absolutely no self created drama. I love this gas station. I get water here from the water machine out front and on occasion fill up with gas. Store is clean and has everything you need plus you get free bananas sometimes which is awesome. Bananas are high in potassium so it ensures me that when I drink my water I won't over hydrate myself and deplete my body of electrolytes. 5 stars. read more

Best gas price!! I live and work in this area since the early 90's. Since the current owners purchased the station, the gas price has been the lowest in the area and their service has been the best. (Although I miss the mechanic's shop, I really like the big convenient store). Also, the staff there are ready to provide you with prompt help. Yes, it helps to know that paying cash keeps the cost lower; since I always carry some "gas cash" this has not been a problem to me. As for the free water/soda, nice touch, especially today that is quite a hot day. Finally, because of their low prices and great service, I say let's support Emerald Oil, our local gas station. BEWARE - both my credit card and debit card were compromised at this location. I've had friends with the same problem. I've alerted their staff and it continues to happen. Always have cheap gas prices. It's a little bit of a hassle cause you gotta pay cash. They do accept credit and debit but you have to pay a bit more to do that. I always just pay them in cash inside. Then you have to walk inside for your change. And you still get a free soda for $40 of gas and don't forget to sign up for the weekly raffle to get a chance at $50 of free gas! read more

They charge 5% for every $20 of gas you purchase by credit card and you have no option to, but to go into the liquor store to pay by credit card. Am always greeted kindly wherever I come here. They are always nice and friendly and happy to help with whatever you need. The gas is a decent price and is conveniently located for me. All the pumps are generally working and receipt paper is usually full. I haven't had any negative experiences really to write about it. Overall I would recommend this gas station to others read more

Honestly, I really enjoy stopping by this gas station. The price is the best compared to other competitors nearby. I stopped by to get gas in the morning before work on a Monday. I went inside to pay for my gas and the cashier kindly offered me a free granola bar (which happened to be my favorite)! This really made my morning. I usually top by this gas station mainly around night to pick up wraps with my fiancé and they ALWAYS have the Irish Cream dutches on deck. Whenever we go to pick up the Irish Cream dutches at other places, they usually don't have it or just ran out. Overall, I would recommend this place. read more

If it was possible, I would give zero stars for this business! I had a prepaid voucher for 5 gallons of the propane and I now know the attendant was absolutely dishonest. He put 1 gallon in my tank and said that was all he could put in it. He said the tank must not be empty, but I insisted it was and he put in another gallon and a half and said that was all it would take. The total he put in was 2 1/2 gallons and it takes 5. I know it could take more than the 2 1/2 gallons, because it was a BRAND NEW TANK, absolutely empty!! Afterwards, I bought a tank gauge to confirm my assumption and it showed it was only half full. I won't buy anything from this business again. read more

I purchased a UT deal for propane. When I went to fill up my 5 gallon tank, there was no one there who could do it. However, the clerk did offer to exchange my empty tank for one of their pre-filled tanks. I am leary about leaky tanks so I opted to come back when someone could fill mine. When I returned, David, the owner, filled my tank and was very nice. DO NOT FILL UP YOUR PROPANE TANK HERE. I had a Groupon coupon from last year for a fill up of our propane tank that we use for our heaters. When I went to get it filled, he told me they only trade them out. I was not happy with that idea because I might have had some left in mine - I wasn't sure if it was completely empty. But I went ahead because I had to use my Groupon coupon. When he gave me the replacement tank - very old, rusty tank - I asked him how I could be sure that one was filled and he said - trust me, it's filled. When I got home, my husband has a device that attaches to the tank that tells you the level so he put it on the tank and it was half filled! I went back the next day and demanded half my money back. He argued a long time but finally gave in. read more
