Looks like they moved to a larger building to accommodate how busy it gets. My parents took me here before I went back to San Antonio and the food was pretty good - par the course for breakfast in Brownsville. The coffee was also very tasty, with waitresses swinging by nearly every 5 minutes asking if we wanted coffee refills. I ordered the chorizo and egg plate which came with chilaquiles, refried beans, and a big flour tortilla. I also added a side of bacon and used half the tortilla to make one of my favorite breakfast tacos (chorizo and egg with beans and bacon). The serving sizes are huge. Even my dad didn't finish his plate. Mom ordered a breakfast plate that included pancakes and the pancakes were so fluffy looking. The only downside was that the ceilings were so high the noise carried too much, so it was very loud inside. But otherwise the food, service, and prices were great. read more

The pricing was good and the plates were plentiful, biggest upset was finding a bug in our fideos (noodle soup) but we were able to get past it once our entrees arrived. There are three Emilia's all are good in certain areas. The Emilia's on Elizabeth st. Is awesome at breakfast there lunch not so good . The Emilia's on South Padre highway and price next to Jack in the box is awesome at lunch plates . The big Emilia's a little further down always has parking that one is a hit and miss on breakfast and lunch they got some great plates for breakfast but not that great barbacoa super greasy and a lot of fat. We were in the area for lunch, so we went to the South Padre Island Hwy location since it's bigger and the parking options are better. This was around 1:30p.m. so the lunch rush was over and we had no problem finding a spot. Our server was helpful and efficient and since this was our first visit, really patient. I ordered the cheese entomatadas with a jamaica drink and my husband ordered the carne guisada with lemonade. I enjoyed the entomatadas, the serving size is generous, there's 4 of them, so I only ate 3. The plate comes with beans and rice which were pretty good too. Unfortunately, my husband was disappointed that the carne guisada looked and tasted like beef stew since it comes with carrots and potatoes. It was definitely not what he was looking for. They serve chips and salsa and a small cup of fideo before the main dishes come, so that was good. The food was pretty good, so we might be back again some other time. The only bad experience, which soured our visit, was that the employees chose the middle of the day to mop the dining area, our server was mopping around us, which was a little annoying because we were trying to eat and have a good time. On our way out, I needed to use the restroom. I couldn't wait, we had a long drive ahead of us, so I went in anyways even though the entrance was blocked by trashcans. When I came out, the employee cleaning it was super rude and complained to one of the other employees, that they needed to do something because guests were coming in as she was trying to clean. Shouldn't the employees do the cleaning at the end of the day. Mopping around the tables where the guests were trying to eat and then complaining that guest had to use the restroom. Give me a break! The salsa is really spicy, but delicious. They also serve a small bowl of really flavorful soup as an appetizer before your meal arrives. We have dined at many good Mexican restaurants in the South Padre Island area, but recently while visiting Brownsville, we wanted to try Emilia's because it received such good reviews on TripAdvisor. There are 3 Emilia's Restaurants to choose from. We went to the Emilia's located at 605 W Elizabeth St. and were very pleased. Emilia's Restaurant was the best Mexican meal we have had while here in the Rio Grande Valley. The woman who greeted us and then served us was very friendly and helped us understand the choices. The menu lists everything in Spanish, so it was helpful to us for more detailed explanation of the food. We arrived mid-afternoon, around 3:30pm. My husband selected Bistec Ranchero which was large chunks of roast beef served in a slightly spicy beef sauce-gravy. A large portion of Mexican rice was included and he had a choice of either refried beans or charro beans. I ordered the Enchiladas de Mexicanos which is four large cheese enchiladas covered with a delicious red sauce and sprinkled with crumbled white cheese. I also had a large portion of Mexican rice plus refried beans. We both were served a bowl of vegetable soup prior to our entree and concluded our meal with a small piece of pineapple cake. The vegetable soup has large pieces of carrots, cabbage, poblano pepper in a tasty broth. The Mexican rice was the BEST that I have ever had anywhere. And we both agree that the charro beans were the best that we have tasted of all the Mexican restaurants where we have dined while in the Rio Grande Valley. The restaurant is very clean and larger on the inside than it appears it would be from the parking lot. With the soup and the dessert included, you can't beat the price of the meal anywhere, ($6.99 each). The food was so good and the service was very warm, friendly and helpful. read more
