Some reasons we love Julie: -The pictures turn out great (the ultimate goal after all) -They were convenient to get done (she can come to your home - so important when you have a newborn and aren't sleeping) -Julie provides great directions on posed shots (though she also took plenty of natural shots too) -She provides photos faster than the industry standard - for us, she sent the preview photos the day after the shoot and the final photos less than a month after a shoot (key when you have a baby that's growing so fast) For our maternity photos, Julie took the photos a 5 minute walk from our townhome, so the location was very convenient. But the photos are angled to largely not include buildings so it looks like a beautiful woodsy area. She also took the photos at the end of the day so the lighting is perfect. For our newborn photos, you can either go to Julie's home near Vienna metro for photos, or she can bring the studio to you. She also asked for my input ahead of the shoot on which color themes I'd like for the newborn photos, which I really appreciated since we were able to think about outfits for ourselves that worked with those colors. The newborn session includes a complimentary family mini session, which resulted in the best picture that has ever been taken of our family (imagine coordinating smiles on multiple people including a toddler). Actually, we are planning to order a big canvas print of our family photo because we're so in love with it! We almost didn't get maternity and newborn photos done but now that we've seen how great they turned out, we can't imagine not having them.

I started going through yelp reviews and looking at photos - Katie's were amazing, and after talking to several of the photographers in the DC-Virginia area and found that I liked Katie the best, she also gave me a very fair price! She coordinated down to the last detail with me, and was very genuinely excited for us and the occasion. I only planned to have her capture the proposal and a couple of shots afterwards, but she ended up doing an entire photoshoot with us! And man the shots she captured! She's clearly a professional - she knew exactly how to guide us along the way to get the best shots out of us, and we had an absolute blast doing it! Upon reflection, I felt like I was being rushed and we didn't get as many interesting poses as we could have if she had not been thinking about getting somewhere else. I recommend that those who book with her do not agree to pay the full amount up front, as this provides you with little leverage in getting your edited photos back.

I really wanted to support a small business for our wedding invitations. I regretted this decision…read morealmost immediately! At first, Mallory was very responsive and seemed very willing to help. WRONG! This order was a complete nightmare. Literally brought me to tears! During the proof process she sent me proofs with grammar errors and even got our wedding date wrong. Despite my efforts to communicate and be as detailed as possible. She'd reply with questions previously answered in past emails for additional proofs and explained the order had exceded the complimentary proofs. I felt that I had to settle with design due to lack of communication by her. I later received a message from Etsy that our order was moved due to address (Left no address). I messaged her immediately and feared our invitations may be lost. Mallory was no longer responsive and left me in the dark. She replied back 5 DAYS LATER. During that time I took it upon MYSELF to call every USPS and UPS on my tracking status in hope I can drive there and pick them up personally. My invitations were officially lost with no help from the seller. When she finally decided to have time to reply at her convenience she simply requested for me confirm my address and said it should be returned by usps and she will ship back like no BIG DEAL. NO URGENCY! I was expecting an update from her due to the unfortunate situation, but didn't hear back from her AGAIN. I found myself having to message her 10 days later and all she gave me was let me reach back out to usps and get back to you. At what point was she going to offer to reprint and just resend a new order? I quickly realized she wasn't if I didn't ask her to. I couldn't believe this request had to even be made by myself and not offered to make this right after her mistake of not sending our order to the right address. She finally agreed to resend our invitations almost one month later. We were so behind on our RSVP's and had to send out a blast message to try and get our guest count in time. In the end, we finally received our invitations and she took such an exciting time to drop them off to our guests to a negative one. As a bride you have a million things to worry about and you'd think as a business in the wedding industry they would handle these orders with more care. This was the most stressful inconvenience during my wedding planning experience. I'm giving one star because I have to. I hope this review helps a future bride and saves them a headache.

From the beginning, my husband and I knew we wanted to hire a day-of wedding coordinator to handle…read moreall the details, and (most importantly) any crisis that may arise. Given that we have both worked in events professionally, we know the kinds of things that can go wrong, and also the amount of work that goes on in the background to throw a great party - wedding or otherwise. We had to make the argument with our parents to not just assign these responsibilities to a relative instead of hiring a professional. It wasn't until the wedding day that they realized just how invaluable it was for us to have Katie there to support us and essentially run the show. In the words of my mother, "You were a God-send -- we would have been screwed without you there." After working for years for other companies managing events, Katie recently broke off to start her own wedding planning company, Pure Whimsy Events, so her prices are really reasonable. She also goes above and beyond for her clients, which is what we were told from an acquaintance who had hired her for their wedding in Fall 2013. Katie helped us keep everything organized and on time in the planning process, and referred several vendors to us including the transportation (which was much less expensive than others we'd looked into). While trying to keep everything straight and organized, I started feeling like I was losing my mind - but Katie was there to keep my head on straight (and in turn, my husband's). She reviewed contracts for us and called out anything that might seem abnormal. She created a detailed timeline for the day-of, was on time for ALL of our meetings (either one-on-one or with vendors), and of course made sure we had everything we needed throughout our wedding day - even offering to buy me coffee in the morning Unfortunately, she ran into several snags throughout the day but she still kept a smile on her face and got the job done. She even managed to get us an Uber car (the planned getaway car for us), which was really difficult on our wedding night considering it was the same night as the White House Correspondent's Dinner, and Uber was providing the transportation for them. Katie is sweet, enthusiastic, meticulously organized and hard working. It doesn't matter how simple your wedding is, I would suggest hiring Katie to help keep you sanity throughout the process and also so you don't have to worry about anything on the wedding day except enjoying it. She also knows when to crack the whip with vendors to make sure they deliver on their promises, which is not always easy to do. Thank you, Katie, for making the process that much easier and our wedding day so stress-free (for us)! PS. Her emergency kit is worth its weight in gold. There were things in there we didn't realize we needed until we did!

Over the course of our roughly 18-month engagement, Katie could not have been more attentive to our needs. I would say one of her biggest strengths was in helping us fill in the gaps in our vision for the big day and knowing which questions to ask vendors and ourselves when it came to design preferences. She does events and photographs our dogs for our annual calendar, and does some really creative graphic design. I knew of Tammy, but actually had the pleasure of meeting her last month when she photographed my 10 month old foster for the 2011 calendar, a mastiff mix who was not accustomed to sitting still or listening to commands. Tammy is so gentle and patient, and has a wonderful repoire. The pictures are beautiful and I ask myself how did she get him to pose like that? Tammy put me to ease during the session as well.
