Started with two amuse buches: one was a ravioli with meat in a strong beef broth sauce. The pasta was very well prepared (although it was only one small ravioli). The other was gluten free bread, which was not grainy or dense but was chewy with a nice crust, that was good for sopping up the excellent muhammara (red pepper & walnut) sauce. Next was the bonito appetizer. Whoa, that had a very - emphasize that - fishy flavor. I think that's sticking with me. Glad it came with some citrus (orange?) to offset the strong fish flavor. The sweetbreads were delicious. They were fried and served with lightly pickled and salted, thinly sliced gherkin pickles, but these are not the kind the gherkin's you typically think of. The sweetbreads were a little greasy, and the gherkin's helped with that. The beef short ribs were also very rich, and tender and flavorful. Although it was a bit odd for them to be served over a piece of sourdough bread and be topped with a bunch of mint leaves. There were some ephemeral strands of zucchini that was the only other item/vegetable to come with the dish. There were four red wines available by the glass. Three were OK. Two people with two glasses of wine each came out to about $250.

Since all the waiters will be trying to cajole you into their restaurant, you need to walk with a determined look on your face while casually letting your eyes survey in your peripheral vision. When we got to the end of the street, my friend and I turned to each other and surprisingly both said "the one with all the world flags hung up inside?" "Done." So we walked back down the street with the same determined look in our eye, avoiding all the charming waiters except the one for this restaurant. We got seated at the very top, where we got a nice view of the street. We had two appetizers and one entree each: the sarma, caviar, coban salad and a kebab dinner. I can't say enough good things about the sarmas. Nothing I have ever tasted before in any Turkish restaurant in the US compares. At all. Despite the crowd, there was a quick turnaround, and we were able to get seated quickly after only 10 minutes of waiting. We ordered the cag kebab wrap, soup of the day (lentil soup), and a side of salad. The kebab was nicely seasoned, with each bite delivering a rich, savory flavor. I also loved all the Turkish lentil soups and this one was no exception- it's tangy, savory and extremely comforting to drink on a cold night.

The staff here are rock stars, smiling, engaging with patrons and welcoming everyone to stick your head into the kitchen and view the succulent wheel of lamb meat. Your sense heighten as you sit and get ready to eat one of the best lamb dishes I've ever had. This feeling was shared with several members of our tour. Language could of been an issue here, but the smiling and friendly staff watched intensely as we inhaled their delicious entree. Their condiments were onions, red pepper paste, pomegranate molasses, tomatoes and plenty of homemade bread. They allow the star, "savory lamb meat" to be featured and not be buried by the accutramonts. It is a truely stunning dish and voted #9 in the world for best kabob. I did try someone else's chicken and it was even more in need of a flavorful sauce.
