This was easily one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had. I booked my appointment online through Vagaro with a specific barber. I arrived on time expecting to be seen for the appointment that I had scheduled. Instead, I was told by the front desk that I had supposedly called the shop and changed my appointment to the following day. That never happened. I never called the shop. I never asked to move my appointment. If I had wanted to reschedule, I could have done it myself through Vagaro, the exact same system I used to book the appointment in the first place. There would have been absolutely no reason for me to call. What makes this experience so frustrating is that a scheduling mistake is not the issue. Businesses make mistakes. Appointments get mixed up. Most reasonable people understand that. The problem is the decision to blame the customer instead of simply admitting the mistake. Shortly after the front desk gave me this story, the owner, Elvis Hernandez, stepped in acting as though he had no idea what had happened. He offered me a different barber because the barber I specifically booked was no longer available. From my perspective, the entire interaction felt coordinated. First I was told that I had changed my own appointment. Then the owner conveniently appeared, acted like he was just learning about the situation, and tried to move me to someone else instead of addressing the real issue. After I left, Elvis actually called me and tried to "prove" that I had called the shop by saying, "See, I have your number." That proves absolutely nothing. My phone number is attached to my Vagaro appointment. Anyone working at the shop can open the appointment details and call the customer directly from there. Having my number does not magically prove that I called the shop to change my appointment. I am more than willing to provide my phone records showing that I never called to reschedule anything. If Elvis has evidence that I called, he should produce it. Otherwise, customers should ask themselves why a business would rather invent a story than simply apologize for making a scheduling mistake. The easiest solution would have been honesty. "We're sorry. We made a mistake." Instead, I was blamed for something I never did. What concerns me even more is reading the owner's responses to other negative reviews. Rather than taking responsibility, there seems to be a pattern of attacking customers, making excuses, or creating a different version of events. After experiencing this firsthand, I now understand exactly why so many reviewers say the same thing. This review is based entirely on what happened to me. I stand behind every word. I booked my appointment through Vagaro. I arrived for my appointment. I did not call to change it. If anyone claims otherwise, I am happy to provide my phone records. Honesty builds trust. Making up stories destroys it. Unfortunately, this business chose the second option. Update: After posting my original review about my appointment experience at Empire Barbers, I received a direct message from the owner (Elvis) that read: "Your a corn ball!!! Get a life!!!! There was an issue where something happened to my online booking and when I showed up I was told my original 3pm appt with my intended barber who has cut my hair before and is phenomenal was cancelled. They said don't worry we'll still take care of you. I've seen a random barber here or there at this location so while I was slightly anxious I figured it would be fine since this is their job and I've never had a bad cut here before. They put me with someone I'd never met before, who didn't even give me his name, and I explained to him how to cut the sides and top. For the top, I showed him literal pictures that were taken directly after my last cut, as I know how I like my hair to be and want it to be that way or at least pretty close in similarity, explaining I style it messy and slightly pulled forward but still wanna be able to not have to style everyday. He took one quick glance at the picture, said "oh okay I got it," and combed my hair forward. Because of the length and him cutting the bangs that are now in my eyes, I closed them to keep the hair out, expecting the choppy but carefully crafted trimming that usually happens, that every barber here has done before for me, but the next thing I know he has literally cut a straight, very bold line across my bangs, leaving me with a freaking bowl cut. I told myself okay, breathe, maybe that's his way of obtaining this cut, now he'll go in more detailed on the bangs. Instead, he thinned out the top, asking me how the length was and I asked for it to be a bit shorter so he obliged. Still waiting for him to fix the bangs, he tells me okay I think you're all set to go! Honestly at that point I just wanted to gtfo of there as the entire experience was just bad from the jump, there's not a whole lot he can even do at this point to fix it, and it feels like he wanted me out of his chair from the second I sat in it. What's done is already done. On top of that, the haircut took a total of maybe 7 minutes, the fastest cut I've had in a literal decade, when this cut usually takes every barber i go to 15 minutes minimum but closer to 20 due to the style as well as the thickness of my hair. When I saw that he already had an appt waiting for him after taking me on as a walk in due to the technical issue with my appt, I realised he probably quickly squeezed me in, and while I appreciate doing me a solid to ensure I get my cut (the only reason I gave 2 stars instead of 1), in all honesty if he didn't have the time to take proper care and dedication with my cut, he shouldn't have taken me at all. It was presented to me like it wasn't an issue at all to have someone fit me in but had I known it was going to create that and cause the barber to rush through the cut just to get it done, I definitely 100% would've waited for a bit until they were actually able to properly take care of me. Now for the next month I've gotta actually style my hair every single day, the exact opposite of what I wanted, unless I wanna walk around looking like Jim Carrey in dumb and dumber. It's also going to grow in weird as hell and entirely irregularly and not be able to be styled the proper way I want it due to the front all being cut the same exact length across. What's the worst about all of it is the fact that I actually paod $40 to look like this. I get it's the holidays and y'all are busy as hell but this was not the vibe or experience to give anyone, technical issue and tryna fit them in or not. First time I took my son to see Bairon.. nice guy very personable listened to what I wanted for my 5 year old. He took his time and spoke to me throughout the process which was nice. I left with a great haircut for my boy and he was happy. Second time took him to Artur who has really good reviews. How? Why? I don't know. He was so angry looking when we walked in 5 mins late to our appt the way he told me son to "sit down" felt like he was being punished. He didn't introduce himself he didn't smile At ALL and he barely looked at my son. Then he got upset at me (I think) because I asked him for the black robe instead of the baby looking one he was about to put on my son. (Ask my som he'll tell you he's not a baby). I then told him I prefer no clippers just a scissor cut please. He looked at me like I was crazy.. then asked why? Is he afraid? What's wrong? I said "He's not afraid I just prefer a scissor cut I don't like the shaved head look." He said "Fine but I have to use it around his ears to clean him up" I said "that's totally fine" I go sit down feeling like I'm dealing with an aggressive man about to touch my son. I get up bc I wanted to show him the hairstyle he wanted. I forget to mention that I told him my husband tried to trim my sons hair and failed the other night so yes his hair was a bit choppy. I had been having my hair cut by the same shop for several years, but was getting less happy with their results and service for quite a while. So it was time to change. I searched the Yelp reviews for a new nearby shop, and found Empire Barbers. I had made up my mind to try several of their hair cutters before I made a final decision. The first two haircuts I received at the shop were well done, but nothing special or something to write home about. For my third haircut, I made an appointment online, using the Vagaro app. It was very easy to use, and I selected (randomly from their list) Boris to cut my hair, and I hit the jackpot! He doesn't talk much, but neither do I, so that was fine. But he was careful in everything he did. He wore a mask and gloves the entire time he was working, and cleaned every comb, clipper, scissors, etc. whenever he started or finished using it. Note: While my first haircut at the shop was at the beginning of the pandemic, now (October 2021) he continues that process, while not everyone in the shop does. He even changes the removable blade in the straight razor for each customer! He keeps his workspace meticulously clean; even using a blow dryer to clean stray hair from his work area, including the floor, several times during each haircut. But most importantly, he gives a great haircut! He does not rush (like my old shop did), taking the time to cut, stand back and review, and then cut some more. Now, I cannot rate his work on some of the more modern styles, such as fades, and the like. I'm an old-fashioned guy (70 yo) and my hairstyle is pretty simple. But I've seen his work on the customers who were leaving as I arrived, and they looked pretty happy. He has cut my hair 3 or 4 times now, and I'd recommend him to anyone. read more

I've been coming to Empire Barbers long enough to truly rate the overall experience. Elvis (the owner) and his team are all extremely professional and masters at their craft. I typically get my haircut by Elvis, but they all take their time with each cut ensuring you are happy before you walk out the door. They also take sanitation very seriously and have far before Covid-19. Now, they require everyone (barbers + clients) to wear masks properly. Stations are sanitized. What I have typically experienced is a staggering of stations. All of these precautions make the overall experience wonderful and comfortable. They also use the software Vagaro to book appointments via their website. The whole process is seamless from start to finish. So after moving to Parkland area, I made the stark realization that it's just not practical for me to regularly go to my trusty old barber in Davie due to time/distance constraints. I searched Yelp and found a barber shop here in the area with good reviews so I thought, with, give it a try. It is in a strip plaza near Holmberg/Coral Ridge intersection. I have now been regularly going to them for about 6 months now. In all fairness, I went through 3 barbers before I found the one. Moises is now my regular. He is on-time with his appointments, cool guy to talk to, and actually showed me a new haircut (I am pretty boring and traditional, had been getting same cut for years) that everyone gives me constant compliments on. He does great beard work. He is skilled at straight-razor, no nip-tucks yet! He always applies alcohol afterwards. What is even more convenient is that you can schedule appt through Yelp. I have always found this very easy. Cost for haircut and beard-trim is $35. My only criticism is that some you cannot add a tip on your credit card... seriously, since when do us millennials carry cash?! read more
