Arrived 5 minutes prior to my appointment. They lost my appointment but still fit me in. Reception was friendly and prompt. Very clean. There are lots of stations but that is understandable for a school. They have 4 supervising teachers over groups of students. I came in for a haircut: trim my ends ($12) and I had a coupon for a scalp treatment. They gave me an estimated time of 1 hour and 45 minutes for both treatment. I was seated at 10:30 and was done by 12:50 pm. Lily did an incredible job with my scalp treatment, haircut and blow dry. The only real problem I had is they don't know how to manage time, and the reception should be checking to see if they are ready for the next person instead of being on there phones, It's my birthday , My sister and I booked a pedicure at 1:00 and my niece was at 1:30, they skip over me and take my niece at 1:20, I left and went across the way, my other problem was when I called they said they had spa pedicures, but it was just a chair and a bucket , they flat out lied to me ! I went for a perm. The student had fancy nails with jewels on them so when she washed my hair, it got caught in her nails so it was pulling on my hair. pain. She was so sloppy water ran down the back of my dress and poured on the floor. The so call Instructors told the student to use the wrong size curling rods and I specifically said body no curl . I got my highlights done here by Angel. They came out great and for a great price! If it's your first time in, there is a bit of a process before you're able to be serviced. I had to do a hair test strand to ensure I didn't have any allergies or reactions, and I believe they said 24-48 hours later you can book your service. I can't remember which one exactly. I think that's awesome though! You definitely can't beat the prices. You will need to be patient and expect it to take double or triple the time it might take at a professional / more experienced salon, as they are students learning their craft. All in all, I will be back and try out some other services as well! read more

The instructor was also very good at explaining the coloring process and assisting to get the proper results. The shampoo was amazing. The stylist and teachers seemed annoyed to deal with my hair. Idk if it was me crossing a line on explaining what I wanted, but I knew what I wanted and was explaining it to my stylist. I was asked previously to see different stylist so they can get the training on my hair instead of just requesting one, but I think that is what I will do from now on. My hair came out okay, the cut was good. The color came out not at all like it was described to me. Being in that seat felt like I was an annoyance for knowing what I wanted and explaining it to them. I've gotten this color 3 times already perfectly from different stylists so I don't understand what was confusing or what the issue was. While my hair was being colored it felt like it was being rushed. What I wanted went out the window and it felt like she was just getting me out her chair as fast as possible was the end goal. I appreciate time sensitivity, but I have a colorless spot on the top of my head at my roots. I'm not sure yet what the rest looks like all around. I have to get someone to look for me. I could feel the girl working with her taking her time and reaching my roots, so I appreciate her for that, but while they were working on me I was being ignored when I talked once they go annoyed with me. In the beginning was great, but during the discussion of hair color placement I was trying to make things easier for them and I think that is where the mood shifted. They had full conversations with other stylists which I don't care if they do, but if I interjected or added anything to the convo at all there there would be weird looks and silence. While my hair was being dried my stylists kept going on her phone and burning my scalp. She apologized which I appreciated cause I don't care if they go on their phone, but it was on my crown and neck and those are the spots I feel need to most attention to not burn people. The teacher came out a round brushed half of my hair to make it sleek and frizz free which looked amazing. Ariel then finished the rest of my hair and went over the sleek side the teacher did making it frizzy, and finally fluffed my hair out like a paintbrush seemingly to make my curly hair even more frizzy. When the pictures were taken laughs were happening in between, but not with me involved. Im autistic and it feels like I was being made fun of while I was there. I never saw the video or pics they took of my hair, so All I know I have colorless spots under my hair line like there is on the center of my head. read more

I never knew what a scalp treatment was until today and all I can say is WOW. Living in the dry climate of Arizona, you don't realize how much of a benefit a scalp treatment can be. Not only did I have that procedure but I also got a fresh haircut by MARE B. You wouldn't believe that this was a student due to her professionalism and care. I could hear their kids their dogs another day they would hang up on me. Never called me back. Their director does not know what she's doing. I got a facial today and the whole experience was laughable. First, appointment was at 12:30 and didn't get called back until 1:10. I almost left... Second the students are walking around in sweats, crocs, chucks. 95% of them look unprofessional. Moving on to the facial experience. I am ok with the lady who did my facial. She was slow and super gentle, but she's a student and learning. She was sweet! However, the facials are given in a little cubicle right out in the salon with lights in your eyes and all the noise from the salon going on. Not relaxing at all! On top of that, everything I got during this "facial" I could have done at home on my own. Toner, scrub, some oily thing, clay mask, more toner, moisturizer. No steam on face, black head removal, etc. I get this is a school... but if you want a relaxing experience, just go down the street to the other school where you will have soothing music, in a dark room, and the full spa experience. read more

I went into the Empire beauty school and asked for a blow out straight. This is what I was given, it was still curly and half wet. I asked her to re blow dry it. She used heat protection for one section and used iron instead. I told her I didn't want iron. When leaving she said how do you want to pay and I said cash, she told me how much it was and I said do I pay you, she said yes. I handed her cash, then when I was walking out the door, the lady at the front desk said you didn't pay yet. So I told her I paid cash to the stylist and I said watch the cameras. I paid $69 for a wash and a blow out that didn't get done correctly. Never will go again. read more

I went to Empire Beauty School in Avondale, AZ. the first of 2024. At that time the student at that time cut my hair in a shoulder length bob, it came out beautiful and I loved it (so did my family). I just went again on August 1st and explain to the student and the instructor what I wanted and even explain to them how the previous student had cut my hair (I also had a picture). Well, needless to say my hair is a disaster, it looks nothing and I mean nothing like it did before, even with the picture. The student had no idea what she was doing and neither did the instructor! They kept cutting at my hair so now it is so short that's its just below my ear lobe. As far as the other cutting they were both during to my hair, my hair now does not even lay right. It is so bad that the instructor did not charge me for the cut, which I wasn't about to pay for anyway, I'm the one that has to deal with terrible mess until my hair grows out some. I definitely will not be going back to Empire Beauty (nothing beauty about my hair) again and if your wise you will stay away too, therefore they get a 1 rating, if I could they would get 0!! read more

Have had good luck for the most part with hair color here for many years. Went in today for hair color ($30), 7 foil hi-lites ($17), toner for which they charged $10. They have never charged for toner before when I have gone there, & the student who did my hair did not tell me there would be a charge for the toner. Also had an eyebrow wax ($5). Total of $62. Some students brought around carnations so I could choose one for Mother's Day. My student stylist told me there were also treats at the front. There were chocolate chip cookies & small bottles of water by the front door when I left. Very nice. When I went up front to pay, I was told there was a thirty percent discount for Mothers Day! I said Wow! Nice! I was told my total was sixty dollars! I said Where is the discount? There was a discount of one dollar and fifty cents! ...Sorry, cannot get to my number keyboard!... They were discounting the least expensive item by thirty percent! What a bad move! What a ripoff! Totally unfair! I expressed my frustration. The very nice lady checking me out took this up with a manager, who agreed to write off one of my services...seventeen dollars. Unfortunately, other customers will likely be cheated out of the full thirty percent discount! Empire! If you are giving a discount, you need to discount the total services, or at least the most expensive one! read more

I attended the cosmetology program for ONE MONTH 4 years ago and never looked back. The instructor I had was HIGHLY UNPROFESSIONAL. She humiliated me on my image in front of the entire class. I didn't even finish the day I was so embarrassed and never returned. The Dean reached out and I explained to her what happened. After that I received an apology a few weeks later. It was left at that. Im now left with a $2000+ account. I will never recommend this school to anyone. read more

I've been here before a couple times and it just goes downhill. I made an appointment on Monday for Thursday at 1pm with my fiancé (bang trim and full set of nails , fiance: haircut and brow wax). When I went I waited 20 mins before I sat which isn't bad but people who were walking in were being seen before me.. my fiancé got a haircut for a 2 all the way around but it looked like a 1 and 2 on top. I got my nails done but it was terrible but I couldn't find a way to tell the girl how bad it was because she was so nice. So at 345 my fiancé still hasn't had his eyebrows done and his girl dipped on him and I never saw her again... and I didn't even bother with my bangs I just wanted to go. I tried to tell someone in charge that it shouldn't have taken that long or if it was occupied that long we shouldn't have been informed ... she said well theyre students and we can't tell how long someone will be in there.. OK??? But do you expect us to sit and wait for longer??? She didn't offer anything to us which is not what I was looking for but seriously everyone was too busy talking and hanging out to just let their clients know anything. And the teacher supervising my nails saw how thick my nails were and said it was ok. I don't know much about nails so I was seeing if she would shape it down and fix it up but it never happened. read more

I recently spent 60 dollars at Rolf's hair salon at arrowhead and felt okay about my hair didn't hate it but didn't love it nor was it the way I wanted it. Today I went in to the beauty school got my hair done by Paige. She did an amazing job and it was the exact way I wanted it. I LOVE MY HAIR. I got a asymmetrical hair bob. And Got exactly that. I had a picture of how I wanted it. The same picture I used to show the stylist at Rolf's. This time it was done the right way! It's just perfect. Did I mention it was only 9$? I got exactly what I wanted for a quarter of the price here when compared to my old salon. Paige is now my go to girl :) yay. read more

I just went here for the first time and I will not be going back. I'm usually not a complainer but I feel like I need to share my experience with you all. I walk in and ask how long the wait is. 10 min. Okay, great! I understand it is a school and I don't mind waiting but at least TELL ME I'm going to be waiting a long time. 45 minutes go by and no one checks on me. I went to ask if I was forgotten about and they said the station was being cleaned right now. 45 minutes go by AGAIN and I finally get seated for a pedicure/manicure. Again, I understand these are students and I can't expect perfection. No problem. The issue was the customer service, or lack thereof. I wasn't greeted with a smile or how are you... She wasn't talkative and was moving extremely slowly. Everytime she would sit down and rummage through her box, she'd realize she was missing something and would need to get up. By the time she started, the water was cold. Then, she began reusing old instruments and instructed me that that was all she had to work with. She also didn't fail to mention how much she hates doing pedicures... several times. Really...? it shows. The chair was uncomfortable and for 45 minutes of 'cleaning the station', it was sure dirty! It reminded me of plastic preschool chairs. But, that goes with the fact it is a school. Massage was non existent and she never communicated when she wanted my feet in/out of the water so constantly felt like I was the annoying one! Two and a half hours later and ten dollars wasted... I left quite annoyed. read more

Found out the school stops taking clients at 2 pm. Alright. I can wait until Saturday. How about then? What are your hours for Saturday, I asked. Closed. Hmm. Guess people with regular jobs are out of luck regarding this school. Off to another beauty school to get what I want done and provide a useful experience to those students. I always feel like I get a great value for my money, yes sometimes you do have to wait a little while slightly annoying but not enough to deter me from the cost effective services I have gotten over the years. Went in for an eye lash application and unfortunately the 20 minute application turned into almost an hour as an experienced artist trained a cosmetology student. During that time, I began to experience an allergic reaction due to the toxic glue being used, as the door was closed and the room was very hot and stuffy. My heart started to race, I became very dizzy, and nauseous and had to ask to stop. I am very use to getting lashes done elsewhere and never had any type of reaction. The student and lash artist even talked about how harsh and toxic the glue was and how they had even experienced reactions. Soon as I got home, all the lashes had fallen off. I highly recommend choosing elsewhere with safer chemicals and experience. read more
